Should You Buy a Honda S2000

- What I would argue is the best coupe sports car convertible ever made is now climbing in price and is making a lot of people wonder, "is the AP1 or AP2 Honda S2000 still worth it?" Well today, that's exactly what we talk about but let me know your thoughts!

I drove my S2000 in -20 degrees this past weekend because it seemed like fun lol. Buy em, drive em, enjoy em!

Mine has 265k miles on the original motor and trans its an ap1 rio yellow with pearl
@@hoondagang4919 way to go dude
Of course you should buy one. But please drive it and take it to shows and enjoy it. Please don't hide it from the public.
Saw a stock one sitting in a whole foods parking lot, tiny bit of rust but well taken care of otherwise. Made me unreasonably happy
Ok, Shigeru
I daily mine 😂
Most importantly don’t crash it. What’s left on the road or in someone’s garage is it, Honda don’t make them anymore.
And don't rice it please. These are classy cars.
Just sold my 01 S2000 Nov 22
30k
Miss it
I'm mid 60s
Mine arse doesn't fit anymore
Was everything y'all say it was. Exquisite!!
Good lad
It’s a funn car but you can get them way cheaper like 16k
@@Couzzafriday112broo where, my area is upwards of 40k-60kcad almost 70k for pristine condition and low kms
One year later and the market has come down your a smart man you can buy one back if u want for 10k
Very true I had an 2001 with a hard top and unfortunately I had to sell my after it got wrecked
As a S2000 owner, watch out for a few things:
- Oil, check the oil every other fill up. AP1s have this issue more often but still worth checking. I lost an engine because I didn't check for 1 month
- TCT, worth upgrading but it's not as big of an issue as people make it seem, get a Billman TCT
- Snap oversteer, yep it happens, but you can mitigate it with a bumpsteer kit if it really bugs you
- Rear axle spacer kit, worth doing if you plan on lowering your S2000, I need to do it on mine
- Valve adjustment, every 3 years you gotta get it adjusted because VTEC Hondas have solid lifters. Best to get a S2000 shop to do it for you but you can DIY it. Should be a $200 job so depends on if it's worth your time and research.
- Support the top as it comes down. When putting up the convertible top, be sure to hold the top as it is coming down. The top snaps a little on the way down to the a pillar and that can break the stretchy straps. Just something to do.
Good advice here 👍
I would love to get my hands on one at some point
Just buy an NC2 or NC3 Miata, cheaper and just as good with minor modifications… The NC is considered the black sheep of the Miata group because it’s heavier than the rest of the Miata generations but the NC uses the same platform as the RX8 meaning it has a much more substantial chassis than any other Miata (more akin to the S2000), and the facelift versions are extremely tunable with a reinforced gearbox and valve train (and bottom end), meaning you can easily get these things to hit 9k rpm with a tune and some cams and some injectors…
@@griffins750personally not a fan of those i’d still want an s2k
Nowadays some car guy (maybe even you Alex) should make a video titled: "the list of cars I should have bought back in 2010 /20XX but I did not because I have not expected them to get so pricey so quick!" like a 2 hour video of all the cars one should have gotten ages ago before the prices went up... and yeah I do know of the 25 years old Japan imports cars policy in USA - to you USA car guys, it is oh so much more reason why it is slightly better here in EU...
S2000 I'd like to thank you for taking the spotlight off the Prelude, it keeps em cheap to get
*Talks about ap1, instantly shows clips of ap2 CR*
I remember street racing against the s2k when it just came out and beating it in my EG with a H22 swap. People went crazy as if I beat king Kong 😂 it was a fun night. Dear God I'm getting old 🤣🍻
Few h22 crew let's go
"The best honda is now $30,000" man I wish NSXs were that cheap lol
That's an acura
@@ramonbriones4487 Fun fact: In Japan, there is no Acura division. All 'Acuras' are branded as Honda. There's no such thing as a JDM Acura NSX just like there's no JDM Acura Integra. They're called the Honda NSX and Honda Integra.
So no it's not an Acura. It's a Honda. If you ever have seen an 'acura' engine, they're stamped with 'Honda Motors' on the block.
@Ramon Briones as quote from a honda enthusiasts website "You see, Acura doesn't exist in Japan or even most countries in the world. Take the NSX as an example. Here in Canada or in the States, it is called the Acura NSX. However, it is sold under the Honda name for most countries in the world."
@@elliswilliams1050 I guess I'll just tell my friend that he has a honda nsx and not an acura nsx and to remove those wrong emblems lol
@@MrJetFormation I know lol.
finally someone said it, ITS NOT A MF DRIFT CAR
There are no drift cars, there are only rear wheel drive cars that are tuned for drifting.
Even though it has less torque , Its still the ultimate touge car alongside the RX-7. This car is probably the best reving honda of that decade.
got my keeper 03 in the stable, now on to the needle in a haystack 05 blue 6spd NSX without tan interior...
I bought my 2002 s2000 6 years ago for 12k with 56k miles on it. Just about to hit 80k soon and they are worth 25k-27k with 80k which is ridiculous🤯
My dad has an ap1 waiting to be restored, I grew up with the car spinning donuts burnouts first time drifting first Manuel i drove he has had the car for 18 years, 2000 s2000 just sitting in my driveway waiting to be loved again
I want to know what your opinion is on the 4th gen eclipse
I thought I was the only person who loved that car. It still has like 10 years before it's worth anything.
Yesss bro I actually really fw it
Yesss bro I actually really fw it
When I was younger I liked it, now not so much
The S2k is one of my favorites but if I'm going over 20k in price for an old Honda I wanna go all the way and get an NSX. (Yes I know a good example is WAY more than 20k)
You’ve never driven an S2k. Especially ap1. That’s obvious
I got a 2000 ap1 in November and let me tell ya... this has been the longest winter of my life🥲
Just got an 02 3 days ago… GET IT
I’m buying 2005 civic si. Yeah the minivan one.
It's definitely gonna be in the nsx category
Yes, specially since is the only other Honda that is rwd..
Honda s2000 and nsx are my absolute dreamcars
Funny I found one bone stock today. Had to take a photo
Absolutely love mine!
I love my ap2 s2k ❤
Lovely car man. I had one and sold it recently. I miss it though
I got one of the last handmade AP2 2004 S2000 that was made in Japan! He is in Mint condition all OEM
1 is sitting down the street from my work for sale and I’m dreaming about it everyday
Man I want an s2000 so bad. My neighbor has a yellow one and it's so gorgeous.
Genuinely forgot the type r existed until now
First nice vid
Don't get one. It becomes an unhealthy obsession and sucks your wallet dry.
Can vouch.
Makes you want more than one with diferent purposes lol

The Honda S2000 ROCKS MAN❗️LOVE THE AP1..❤
there’s a built s2000 selling in PA with 700hp and a crazy 1 of 10 wide body
Love my Ap2
love it
My next door neighbor has one. Its pretty sweet.
For the people that don't know this car is actually very fast not slow that's why it's so much I have one and it goes 300hp
Has been my dream car since I was a kid. Some day I'll figure out how to afford one.
Get one, those are cars you have to drive to experience what everyone talks about.. i recently purchase one and plan on keeping it for a long time.
@@civicpride1986 currently have an 06 Si. I love it, have had it since 2010. I am just not interested in dumping money into a fwd car. My goal is to find a s2000 and swap my k20z3 into it. Just got too much going on right now. It'll be on the back burner for years.
@@HCivicFg2 Honesty the F series engine is build stronger, i dont understand the swapping of the K series..

The AP2 looks like it came out yesterday
do the rx8 nextttt (i have one)
I cannot fit in the seats, my shoulders have been too wide since I was 14, made for very little people🤣
I love my AP1 ❤
it makes me cry that I will never be able to get one
I feel the s2k is around a good spot. It’s not terribly over-rated, and you can still find somewhat affordable examples.
But maaan with a spoon hard top it just look so nice
Recently purchase an Ap2 in white with tan interior... the only other car at that price range that is worth it and almost as fun is the C6 corvette in manual with the LS3.. price for price the s2000 handles better, but the corvette is faster plenty of torque.. Rare factor goes to the s2k so rare to see anothet one on the road and vetts are a dime a dozen.
The best honda with a high price tag. Id say its totally opinion its the best honda when you can buy a new car for that price.
Still 1 of my favorite cars honda ever made along with the prelude. But the price the go for now I have to pass.
Do yall think they’ll be cheaper in a few years bc of the economy or do yall think it’ll keep rising
I still have one
Bought my AP2 last year with 60k miles on it and I love it so much 🥹 if you're reading this and thinking about getting one, just do it! You won't regret it.
How much was it?
I did and not to be stored for decades to drive every day
Any 6ft S2000 owners? How is the fit on the legs?
It can also outrun a Jetta in Fast and the Furious
They should have made more rwd platforms
Why does everything have to be drift-able?
"The Best Honda is now 30k" damn the 5th Gen Prelude is that expensive????
I'm so glad I brought my s2000 when I did the fact that they are going for 30k or more is ridiculous but understandable
Commenting in 2023. A low mileage s2000 is now in the 50's. Holysh... a near 20 year old low powered 2 seater for 50 grand?! But I want one, and seriously contemplating buying it. I understand all of you that own one now and how much you love yours.
But, I'm asking today in 2023. Is the s2000 worth 50 grand?
FYI other cars I'm considering, e46 m3, e90 m3, 07-08 shelby gt500. All different price ranges, I'm willing to spend as little or as much for what I want.
Ya
I would …
I was a fanboy back then and I owned one. Sold it in 6 months because I just didn’t love it. Listen, it’s a great engine and car but for a rwd platform 150 torques just isn’t enough. Plus I prefer roofs and I lost a trans and a diff at 20k miles, car was unmodified.
Wait what's wrong with the wheel layout? and how does it make it not ideal for drifting?
The specific steering rack and short wheel base combo dont work together well, from what ive heard.
They're very twitchy cars. It can be done but it's not a good drift car. Quick steering ratio and snap oversteer makes it snap in transitions way too quickly
Is a 2001 with 47k miles worth 30,000?
It really depends 30,000 is a
Pretty good price but for that money you could get a mint fc rx7 or 240 and upgrade it or a decent r32 or fd if you like the car I would see it as a really good daily sports car but you can buy a much better and cooler car for ghat much but then again I don’t own one I love the way the look but I don’t see why they’re so expensive other then fast and furious.
I will never understand anyone who thinks a 240 is cooler than an S2000. You have watched too much Initial D my man. Like you have to do so much to make a 240 fun or cool. S2000 is fun out of the box (and better looking)
@@tylerfitzgerald266 like he said in the short they are not good for drifting the drive cool but not like a normal car the don’t have pop up headlights which isn’t a downside but definitely not a plus and they’re really expensive for what they are Alex probably wouldn’t have bought one if it were not for the fact that it was one he was around a lot and had a good deal they are really cool but they’re not that rare I see them constantly on the road and they also don’t have some crazy engine In them like I said tho I think they would be a really good daily compared to most idk cars but that doesn’t change the fact that I can get a mint fc or most good jdm cars and set it up for drifting for 30k.
In fact I could buy a s13 from Japan with good miles for that much.
King of the touge
I would like to get one but it's probably €50k in my country😂
I want one so bad but I want one under 15k
I’d rather buy old gen Hondas than new ones anyday
Man I think I'm tweaking, I'm 95% sure your voice is AI generated
Its just sped up
Driven 2 of em, hamds down the most overrated jdm going, for sure. Its an nb mx5 witha high rpm theres basically no other difference to drive 😅
AP1FTW 🔥🔥🔥‼️‼️‼️
Time to buy a honda beat
I love my S2000, but the original NSX is still the best Honda.
Hehhee I just bought my first car and it was a 2005 s2000 ap2 . I don’t even have my license 😭
What a crime to boast about the noise but not add a clip👮♂️🚨🔒
I got a 2007 for 12k like six years ago xD xD xD
The RSX-s is still around $25k for a good example, I might just pick one up, I’m not a fan of Verts
I got my rsx for 3000$ a little body damage but the engine was amazing thing runs great if your paying 25k for one your getting over priced by a lot
25k for an rsx is steep, I’m in LA finding s2000 for 13k. Not a fan of verts so I dropped a carbon hardtop on. Best of both worlds still comes out under 25k
Driving a slow car fast is waaaay more fun than driving a fast car slow.
>"no I'm not talking about the new Type R"
We all wish it was going for only 30,000...
The s2000 is a car that i just cannot reach to that level
1.when your starting to work after high school everything seems long road
1.the s2000 was pricey when it came out
2.still is..now that i got a career i still can not afford it nd yeah maybe i could buy one but i mean i cannot afford it i need space for passengers and space for hauling
Idk where im at u can get a decent s2000 for 8-20k not 30k
s660 tho
30k? They sell between 10-20k here in Canada
idk where this 30k is coming from i got mine for 13k and i see a bunch for less then 20
Im sorry did you just say that the S2000 is slow?
My older sister got ap1 in 2002,
My mum turned up with ap2 in 2007,
I turned up in mine a 58plate in 2014
My dad turned up in his 09 plate in 2017,
I’ve been lucky enough to own 1 and kick about/ borrow them growing up.
Awful breaks in all years right upto 09.
Awful above 125mph aswell,
Awful driving over 100 mile trip and I was 11 to 29 years old.
You don’t have to buy js racing
They are barely 20k
In my opinion the best Honda "ever" made was the 1st gen NSX and if it's a Type R NSX even rarer and better
A crx isn't 30k tho
For $30k, I could easily afford to build a turbo Miata, and two 1,000hp AWD K swapped Hondas. S2000 has become the next overly expensive icon almost like the Skyline and Supra, incredible car but not worth it for most tuner folk.
LOL no you wouldn't. S2000s are $15k cars on Marketplace. $30k is if you want a super low mile garaged one, $15k will get you plenty of daily driver spec S2000s. You severely underestimate the cost of boosting a car too, That turbo Miata will blow up, and AWD k series? You're going to spend $30k on parts alone.
@@philspaghetS2Ks are $15k in your specific marketplace, either way I'm referencing what I could specifically do with $30k so your point is moot.
I'm a veteran Honda tuner, builder, and fabricator so i think I know more than you do about what I'm talking about. I can buy a broken junkyard AWD Honda CRV or Wagovan for under a grand and have 85% of the parts I need for the AWD, then I can fabricate the rest with my skills, it's easy. My EG hatch shell cost me $600 and it came with a D swap that I flipped into another Honda. A K series engine can cost as low as $400 if you know where to find one and it really doesn't cost much more than a few grand to sleeve and install aftermarket rods pistons, and crank and rebuild the head. I can price it all out for you if you want. It's cheap if you know what you're doing.
@@elliswilliams1050 Well dang, you're leveraging a lifetime of building insanely cool Hondas against me XD But still, I don't think it's gonna be as low as you think it is. If you keep track of every bolt and part you'll find those costs are way higher than you think
@@philspaghet If you're a veteran Honda builder, you have buckets full of every bolt and nut you could ever need lol, but you raise a fair point. I still wouldn't say I'm underestimating anything as I've done these swaps and conversions many times at this point.
But admittedly I chose not to engage on your point about miatas because I've never worked on them, but $10 grand should get you really far if you buy a cheap shell and tune and build it yourself with a basic megasquirt/haltech setup.
@@elliswilliams1050 Ah, well if you just have bolts and stuff laying around that's pretty big, I don't have that kind of inventory yet since I'm still in university but someday I will.
Looking at current Miata prices, I don't know if it would be worth boosting a Miata for someone like me with minimal tools and parts. It would be cheaper for me to just save some more money and get a S2000. The cheapest Miata I've seen in decent running condition is $3k, boosting it would probably cost another $2-3k for a turbo kit and then double that because you're going to run into a bunch of initial teething issues and don't have the tools for it and now you're going to be looking at coilovers, wheels, and tires to get it to the same level as a track ready S2000 for $15k where I am which is going to be more reliable anyways.
I'm sure if I had more experience and tools I could drastically bring the costs down but that's how it is right now
Was worth years ago when they were going for 15k. Now I would t spend 30k. If anyone i rather get a gr Corolla
