I do hope that your all reunited again. I'm blessed as well as others I'm sure, who found you on utube. Your my go to inspiration in healthy eating wfpb in living longer. And looking forward becoming a member in the additional cooking package in near future. You are a big inspiration and appreciated. Thank you. God bless you ❤️🤗
Julia, I loved this, your demonstration and suggestions will be placed in my weekly WFPB prep routine. It’s simple but inventive because it solves the dilemma of getting your greens in every day when you don’t want a cold salad. I also enjoy hearing about your very interesting parents, especially your Japanese mother. The cultural shock of coming to the South and how she maintained her traditions. It has made you an excellent chef and teacher. Thank you for sharing these nuggets of goodness. All the best.🕊
Thank you! My friends 90 yr old grandmother from the Philippines ate her greens this way. We were all going to a restaurant and she ate beforehand so she could eat her food because the restaurant food in the US made her no feel well. It stuck with me to this day and now understand how unhealthy I used to eat.
I want to say thank you so much for this post. I went out this morning and bought two10 ounce containers of organic field greens and two bunches of Kale. I blanched the greens and squeezed out the water. I then divided the greens into eight containers and refrigerated them. I just had one now with a quarter teaspoon of Braggs aminos. It was delicious and still a little crunchy. I became became plant-based five years ago this coming August. I basically just gave up eating salad because I could not find a oil free salad dressing that I liked. I’ve made everyone that I can find online and it just never worked for me. So I just ate cooked broccoli, kale and cabbage. Occasionally other greens like spinach cooked in meals or smoothies. I will now enjoy my greens again like this. I never thought I’d like blanched greens, but I do. Thanks 😊
Great demo Julia, thank you. I followed your method with Kale and Collard greens and they are delicious. I’ve been trying to incorporate more greens into my diet and find it so much easier since I have them already prepared. And, they are so crisp and vibrant.
I enjoyed this video. I make greens almost every day but use a steamer and time precisely. In college I was taught that steam contains much more heat than a similar amount of water, so I steam over high heat, rinse with cold water in the sink and drain. My local Safeway just a few minutes away is doing a great job expanding their fresh produce section, unlike most other stores which are shrinking theirs. I also like the way that kale keeps its texture after cooking and is great with soy sauce and sesame seeds. I would avoid storing in plastic after reading so much about chemicals that leach in. Mine go into covered glass or pyrex for storage.
Chef Julia, I just found your you tube videos. I've just begun my journey in eating WFPB/Oil Free and I love the videos I've seen so far. I feel like I've missed so much so am glad I can catch up. I have a question, I can't/don't drink smoothie's. I don't even drink milk shakes. Anything thick I will gag it up. Any other recommendation for getting the recommended seeds in?
Love the demo...thank you! Why not eat raw though? Aren't nutrients more readily available that way? I go through that volume doubled just by blending in smoothies.
Me too. I make my smoothies with spinach, kale, celery, lettuce and for fruits a banana, apple, pear or other fresh fruit. I also add a mix of flaxseed with chia seeds, one lemon and a piece of ginger. I started doing this more than 10 years. I will be 80 years old in December and I take no prescription medications. Never has osteopenia and I’m dairy free and meat free. Sometimes I eat an egg but pastures and salmon. Love Chef Julia channel.
Julia, where do you find Eden Shake? I purchased some years ago but haven't been able to find it again in Katy or Houston. I've scoured all the local Asian groceries.
Thank you. I am working on growing more of my own greens this year and have seeds started and plants for the garden. I wish we had a local supplier for baby greens. I will take what you said on my FB group and here and work on reducing my use of plastic. I think you made a good point and I appreciate it.

That's so interesting that your grandmother made her greens this way. I hope you try it too and like it!

Hi 😊
If cooking kale (heartier green) do you recommend cooking to 0 setting or 1 minute?
Julia, where do you find Eden Shake? I purchased some years ago but haven't been able to find it again in Katy or Houston. I've scoured all the local Asian groceries.
I had to order it on Amazon recently because it wasn’t at Whole Foods anymore.
When it is time to eat the greens that have been prepped and cooled, do you eat them cold, or heat them briefly in the microwave? Thanks in advance!
Yes I'd like to know the same thing please ;)
Me too.
Wouldn’t cooking kill the enzymes?
Can you just steam the kale/greens instead.
@@peachesandsugar1 yes
Horrified at all the wasted plastic!
Buy greens fresh in bunches and wash your hands, no need to use plastic!
