She got career advice from Dr Martin Luther King and recruited for NASA before the moon landings but she says the true importance of what she accomplished is that "we can see ourselves." After 50 years I am still in awe.
Super classy and hot woman, even at her age!!! This just shows that class is timeless and ageless. Beauty and the body will fade and sag, but class is eternal..!
Great interview, Piya. Nichelle, whether she planned to or not, became a standard-bearing role model and ultimately, a stateswoman, in her work. ..and what a delightful woman she is.
Bless that woman. She is one of 7 of the greatest actors ever on tv to me. I still remember her fan dance from ST5 around 1989 :) I heard that kiss was supposed to be with Spock but Shatner wouldn't let the first to be anyone but him. I also heard they really didn't kiss. Hard to tell from the angle. So silly now days.
I love all the accolades. She was Gene Roddenberry's lover. She got her role the old fashioned way. Big role model, just like Obama and Hillary whose hero is Saul Alinsky. If blacks wanted a real model model the cannibals wouldn't have thrown LTC and FMR Congressmen Allen West in their soup pot.
Nichols' brief affair with Roddenberry ended before she auditioned for "Star Trek." Actually it was Majel Barrett, Nurse Chapel in "Star Trek," who was his lover during the time he was casting the show.
Too much emphasis on the obvious and much discussed facts about her being Black. The host could have dwelled less on that and taken it in different directions. A more provocative and interesting story would have been about her previous visit to Canada in the 1950s when Nichelle survived an attempted rape by refusing her attacker with little more than her own courage and was supported and vindicated by the British Columbia legal system.
What an elegant and eloquent woman, Nichelle Nichols is. Great interview energy, Piya.
Nichelle Nichols is Star Trek royalty and adored by fans around the world.

I remember the NASA thing! Indeed, we have come so far in having more women in the sciences today :)
Nichelle Nichols....What a beautiful, wonderful woman.
Good morning ,thank you and tenfold wonderful. We lacked the respect of our mothers who show us the journey on the way. Peace and tenfold golden.
Bless her for bouncing back after her stroke. She is. a legend!!
Hahaha the "Watchu talkin' about, Dr Martin Luther King?" was hilarious! I'm imagining Arnold Jackson's face with Nichelle's voice :DD
What a wonderful person Nichelle Nichols really is.

Where can I get a pair of earrings like those?
Great lady, great interview.
Others probably think of Uhura, I see Amelia from Snow Dogs staring Cuba Gooding Jr.
Wise Albatross lol
Yes!!!! That was where I first discovered her!!
Uhura was my very first crush.
My name is Nichelle! I think I was named after her, or the Barbie doll in the generation girl collection named Nichelle. Maybe both.
Great interview, Piya. Nichelle, whether she planned to or not, became a standard-bearing role model and ultimately, a stateswoman, in her work. ..and what a delightful woman she is.

Nechelle Nichols is Part of my Childhood
What a treasure Nichelle Nichols was and is for us.
She influenced my decision to be a Morse Code Interceptor in the Army. Also later on getting a degree in electronics technology. Thanks, Nichelle!
