    Thanks. Just starting my tank and was trying to figure out what this brown film looking algae is. Know it’s not Dino cuz it doesn’t have the bubbles and the extra stringy. Nice to follow along and use the knowledge on my tank

    Hey March, Diggs, Tia and everyone at Fragbox. Another great video about dealing with Diatoms. Of note, nature is so fascinating. Diatomaceous earth is made from the fossilized remains of tiny, aquatic organisms called diatoms. Their skeletons are made of a natural substance called silica. Over a long period of time, diatoms accumulated in the sediment of rivers, streams, lakes, and oceans. Today, silica deposits are mined from these areas. These remains have a major use in the eradication of insect pests including bed bugs as the diatoms coat the oily surface of their chitin and dehydrate them... In speaking with Tia and finally getting the tanks back from the grips of algae, I thought I might request a video - the maintenance and upkeep of a nan0-tank. EX, what does Tia do in a week with the Fluval Eve 13.5, is my 32 gallon Biocube considered a Nana tank? We are always reading and hearing about that magic word, "stability" How does one establish that in a smaller tank size? What are your thoughts on the Jake Adams, 1-year hands-off tank with no water changes, just top-ups and feedings? Hoping Ford's new Covid-regs don't affect you more, it's so great to have such a nice store where everyone is so friendly and willing to help out the reefing community in Toronto.

    March, Discovered your channel a couple of weeks ago and I have enjoyed your content. I'm way to far away to purchase anything as I live in Florida, USA. Although it seems like at least half of all Canadians spend the winter in my state. Anyway, how about a video of GHA. I have finally whipped this but it took several months of Phosguard, hand removal and Turbo snails to get this under control. My tank was too small to add Tangs.
    I also see that you are a SeaChem dealer. Have you tried out their new skimmer? Maybe a review. Again thanks for the content.

    My new tank is just about gone but my old established tanks have it! the only thing different is white lights! I have two 95 watts on a 20 gallon so I run all blue to keep par lower. I run white in my other two 4 and 5 year old tanks. i also have a lot of new corals come in and they are dying! Looks like the film is getting on them! Can diatoms kill corals. Seems to be on the flat type corals that dont sway and move! I guess the swaying action keeps diatoms off them! I am afraid to change my lights to all blue or mostly blue in fear of my older stablished corals dying! What should I do? I am desperate. Losing 2 k in corals! I use gfo but BRS brand and no mention of it killing diatoms. Does all GFO kill silicates? One of my tanks wont grow coralline! its 5 years old! Maybe because the film gets so bad on the glass. Its real bad on my new acrylic frags racks! My one tank started to grow Corals on racks so it want away but not totally because I just lost 5 corals in there for no reason!

    Great video. Perfect timing. I'm bang in the middle of my diatom bloom right now but added Phosguard not Rowaphos and did do my usual weekly 10% wc although I added the fresh mixed water through the filter sock containing the Phosguard as the salt i use, Tropic Marin Pro, DEFFO has phosphates in a freshly mixed batch so though this would further aid the reduction... I need to get another 20 trochus or another 10 mollies ASAP though... 😂😂

    Thank you! Do you recommend leaving the live rock alone while treating with phosphate/ silicate remover? I've been using my mage float and not rinsing my mechanical filtration. Any suggestions would be great.

    How long did you take before you input your coral when you started up your tank? How long after did you see the Diatom outbreak?

    I'm here because of diotams and my mistake was I changed water now it's all over my glass and rocks that was my noob mistake. Now turned down white light added phosphate media and whiting too see the results thanks for the video.

    I should use rowaphos if my phosphates are 0.03 right? To close to 0 , I’m trying to beat diatoms too

    Really helpful! Just one question - how do you know how much Rowa Phos to use so that you don’t reduce po4 too much?

    • @borinvlogs
      @borinvlogs 3 роки тому +6

      yes a bit confusing. the reason why we get dino is because of very low po4 and no3. it seems a bit strange to remove po4 even more.

    How do you use rowaphos. Meaning dosing the tank with it. It can’t go in A reactor as I tried and blew it all out into my tank. So how do you dose it.

    I like fragbox don’t get me wrong but this video is worth taking down due to all the tanks it’s caused potential hobby ending Dino’s - resulting in less coral / fish sales…
    Using rowaphos when they don’t really need it and should be patient is exactly what caused Dino’s in my 300G2 and killed hundreds of dollars in corals due to the heavy toxicity of the Dino’s I have due to following this videos exact suggestion.
    I curse this video nearly daily for 2 months while my tank is still totally messed and I’m nearing pulling the plug
    Rowaphos will bottom out your po4 and the probability to spark an unwanted Dino outbreak is incredibly high

      I was considering using it after the video but then kept thinking what If it starves my corals. I have diatoms covering some hard corals that are very unhappy. What did you do to fix it? Wait it out?
