University Hospital is serving as the interim Charity Hospital, but has less than Half the capacity. The private hospitals are crumbling financially trying to treat indigent patients in their emergency rooms. Over 200 psychiatric beds were lost in the New Orleans area due to Katrina. Fifteen psychiatric beds have reopened. The suicide rate has tripled.

July, 2008 : 50 more psychiatric beds open in the city. 20 more acute beds at SELSH in Mandeville. We're getting there. Outpatient services are chaotic and mismanaged.

So the hospital I hear was cleaned and decontaminated and ready to reopen and take patients but the city closed the doors. Why?

No, Sandygrl94 they didn't build no new hospital just because LSU is broke and the state is in the red.
