    Roland RD 88 clear winner. Great piano sounds and great action. Their both great keyboards but overall I like the Roland a bit better and it's less money and more portable. I had the chance to try both in person and ended up buying the Roland RD 88 and Im loving it.

    Excellent demo! I play EVER note on a piano, so hearing the very top & bottom ends, as well as the middle section, of these pianos is very important for me! ***Excellent playing by the way!***.
    I love Roland’s, but the stereo image on this Korg sounds like I’m sitting in front of the real instrument.

    I've had the RD88 (only returned due to an unexpected expense) & it is literally the best stage piano I've ever played (I own Korg SV-1 (meh) & a Yamaha P-250 (yay) also). I can see why some wouldn't like the piano tone, but, to my ear, it sounds very much like my favorite piano sample from the Korg SG ProX, which was too bright for a lot folks. I find it crisp and punchy. The other thing I love about the RD is that it has all of the sounds+ of the XV-5080/5050, which allowed me to sell one of my units. I'm planning to buy another RD ASAP. I only wish it had MIDI for bass pedals

  • @helderspamhater1821

    I liked the APs of both. It seems the Korg was with more reverb so it sounded like it has more "body" (also noticed on the last seconds of the video - the staccato strings). EPs, Korg sounds better overall. Same with the AP layered with strings. I suppose the player used the factory settings with little or no modifications, I suppose it is possible to make the Roland sound better after some tweaks. Finally, I have a question, what song is that starting at 2:53?

    About the SV2 ... I didn't play it yet but after 10 years playing an SV1 model (only 2 sound packs) , I expected something else, more advanced compared with other brands. There are more sounds now ... But , that's it , no new sounds over time?.... you need a pc for organising sounds, making layers .... 18kg weight ( it's ok) .the positive thing : it's a lot of fun to play this instrument... Especially the Rhodes

  • @amironline

    Overall, the roland sounds are more punchy while the korg sounds more soft with more note release. I prefer warm sounds generally, however i can tell the higher notes are more realistic on the rd. Also i feel that the rd sounds are getting very close to those of the Nord eps.
    Nice comparison though 👍👍

      So many by of the differences can be attributed to velocity curves, reverb, chorus, delay settings, etc. Plus I presume they (Roland and Korg) aren't sharing samples so yes, those are different too. I like the demo but there are some things that the player just can't fully control. Even just a small amount of volume difference between the two will cause the average listener to prefer the louder one.

  • @metalplatedfacejob

    Korg sounds smoother, Roland is punchy border line hyper realistic. Korg has that mic in a good room sound, Roland is more DI sounding and that is not a comment on the sound of the reverb on each unit. It's down to personal preference really. Both are incredible sounding for the price. I'm leaning towards the the Korg though.....it has the sound of a record to my ears..maybe a bit more analog then the Roland. Roland has that more modern in your face sound to it which is preferable in some instances too but it's still more of an idealized sound then it is realistic imho.

    • @ronaldlane1597
      @ronaldlane1597 2 роки тому

      As guitar player who has used midi for years, the Roland sounds a bit more brighter and articulate and the Korg is sweeter and a bit more mellow. Since one can be made to sound like the other, for me it would just come down to price.

    I think in the Piano's they are pretty Equal, plusses and minusses to both. Roland has more bite and realism in especially the Clavs but also the EP's and he seems to be looking for some chorus and Wah effects on the korg that just isn't there. But the pad/string sounds on the RD sound more synthetic, here the Korg clearly wins.Much better strings and pizzicato's. Here Roland seems to dry, much more reverb on the Korg. In this department Roland shows its dated samples clearly taken from the JV library. But I also find the EP's in the SV disapointing comparing with the excellent ones in the Kronos. Its more expensive, but overall in my opinion the SV-2 has a better sound. I don't feel the RD lives up to the qualiy of samples of 2020 in the Acoustic Pianos. It has been seen better from Roland. I think Roland have cut corners here to deliver a too cheap product, wich makes me think do Roland know what they want with this. They revealed a meeeh Fantom that sounds nice, have some nice features, but is Waaaay too overpticed to how easy it is to get cool synth sounds today

    • @michaelmao6180
      @michaelmao6180 4 роки тому +1

      I feel that Roland "cut corners" to create a stage piano equivalent to their Juno DS88 (affordable, but more than decent). It's got the same keybed (PHA-4) as the FP-60, which is $1500, and decent sounds. PHA-4 is actually pretty good. Sure it's not their flagship PHA-50, but RD2000 and FP-90 are both double the price. The action is better than Ivory G feel that Juno DS88 and FA08 has, it's got a better piano sound than the DS88, much cheaper than the FA08, and much more portable than many other models. I think it's a really versatile one that you can comfortably use as a quality midi controller, a decent stage-piano (if you only need a few of the more common and high-quality sounds), a very nice keyboard to bring to a gig, or a higher-mid-range digital piano. It's a jack of all trades at a pretty decent price.

    1) Nord stage/piano/electro
    2) Yamaha P-515
    3) Korg SV2
    4) Yamaha CP88/73/YC61
    5) Roland RD-2000
    6) Yamaha Montage/Modx
    7) Roland Fantom 2020
    8) Korg Kronos/Krome
    9) Roland RD88

      the rhodes on the Yamaha cp88 is prob one of the best i've heard as far as digital pianos.. all of Yamaha's sounds are pretty amazing.. if u had to choose between Modx or the Yamaha p515 which would u go for?

      ChazSeamus28 Modx has the cheapest keybed from all Yamaha models, it’s the same as in their budget models so if you want great keyboard get CP88

      @@Psztyk236 yeah.. almost bought it but I didn't because that keybed.. it doesn't feel extremely horrible but definitely not good either and not built to last.. for $2000 I'd want something that is going to last longer than 5 years

    The korg has a soul.
    The Roland sounds like a robot.
    (If only the korg had a pitch bend. Can this be added externally?)

    The Roland sounds more like how the real instrument would sound like. Korg sounds good too but Roland hands-down wins this battle.
