The Cleaner Wrasse will also prioritize their clients, so bigger fish get more attention sooner than the smaller fish, and new clients get more attention than the repeat local clients
I’m not surprised that antiperspirants were invented in 1903. Linen and wool, which were the most common materials for undergarments for millennia (linen more so than wool, depending on climate and season), have natural antimicrobial properties and are both amazingly moisture wicking. Cotton slowly took over throughout the 19th century and, while it’s still breathable and easily washable like linen, it just doesn’t have those properties.
I've used antiperspirant for years and have never had a problem. When my brother uses anything with alum/aluminum products he breaks out in horrific hives that turn into painful blisters within a half hour. Everyone is different and sensitivity levels vary among people. But not everyone has awful reactions and some of us like our antiperspirant.
Low key jealous of people who can wear antiperspirant. It's a good idea, but my skin disagrees. I've learned my epidermis is like that one obnoxious friend... incredibly intolerant of so many normal things!
Can attest to the eating hazards of a large moustache. I once made the mistake of eating a crêpe with melted chocolate and marshmallow. Ended up looking like I had frosted facial tips, and it took a good twenty minutes of vigorous scraping to get it all off. Turns out melted marshmallow hardens FAST.
As a person with a VERY long mustache I would like a moustache spoon. 10/10 that would be helpful. (I eat toast upside down to avoid the butter/jelly/cream cheese.)
I have this image of a little mustache guard on a stick that you could hold up while you eat your toast right side up and I kind of want to see this product happen.
I tried grape fanta for the first time this summer at an amusement park (I live in a Scandinavian country) Its.... melted candy. Its literally just artificial tasting sugar water. Im a sweet tooth but that soda was so sweet I only managed to drink a couple mouthfuls 💀 ✋

I asked the Drs and physical therapist why my knee was going through puberty again lol. I’m 6 months out and I think it’s all matured and grown up now lol. Why did my knee, go through puberty after being broken and sliced open? It was crazy I hade to shave it like twice a week and my right knee was maybe once a month.
I'm not remotely worried about aluminum but I can say from experience, antipersperants may not be great for everyone. It's never caused any kind of poisoning but I have ended up with pimple-like infections in my pores just from stuff getting stuck there. It's actually painful. And at first I thought it was probably just a coincidence, but I stopped using antipersperant anyway just in case. But at one point I accidentally bought antipersperant, decided I might as well not waste it, and pretty shortly after I got that infection again, and it cleared up when I discontinued the antipersperant. And then it happened one more time after that. Still a chance it might be a coincidence. But I feel pretty comfortable swearing off antipersperant. Idk if it's because I'm a heavy sweater or if I just have a particular armpit microbiome that goes nuts in an anaerobic environments
I don't use anti-perspirant because it makes my pits really physically uncomfortable, whereas regular deodorant doesn't. Not sure if that's an indication of a condition or a red flag or anything, but I know that it happens.
11:30 I imagine class would have made handwashing fashionable, as super clean hands would be harder to achieve/maintain for people who did manual labor for a living.
the Smithsonian made beard tax token replicas in 2019 and there are a bunch of them floating around on coin collecting sites in eBay if you want one, usually between 10 and 20 dollars. Also in antipersperants, one of the most commonly used aluminum is alum, which is also used in most American baking powder. I am allergic to it, which is why when I was a kid, and needing antiperspirant, and I had all these allergies to all kinds of weird things, my mom got me some of that crystal deodorant to see if that would work, and well, that crystal deodorant is made of alum crystal. Now that I know this, it really amuses me going into the deodorant section of a store, and seeing all these deodorants boasting about being aluminum free, and then right next to them is a big chunk of alum. And all this makes me wonder if the concern is the aluminum getting into the system, and say, going to the kidneys, then why are people focusing on deodorant and not the fact that this stuff is in a large percentage of American bread? Also fun fact about alum is it's a really good dye mordant, and helps cloth maintain vibrant dyed colors, which means it was really, really valuable. In northern Europe in the early modern period, When the economies of for example, England and Flanders, were mostly based around wool, especially brightly dyed wool cloth. And there were two places to get alum, for this particular market, one of which was from the Pope who had a mine in Italy on the Papal estates. The other was in Turkey, which was ruled by the Ottoman Empire, Which at the time, had just finished conquering the Byzantines and was the great terror of Christian Europe. So the Pope used his monopoly on Christian mined alum to jack up the price and make bank, meaning the Turkish stuff was of course, significantly cheaper. But Turkish alum was illegal throughout Christian Europe by order of the Pope. So Henry VII, father of Henry VIII, of all the wives fame, founded an alum smuggling and laundering ring with some of his allies, to get their hands on that sweet sweet cheap alum without the Pope finding out.
“I like Pepsi better than Coke” Thank you Ceri! As far as colas I like Diet Coke best, then any Pepsi, then any Dr Pepper, then anything off-brand, then being thirsty, then non-diet Coke. And then also grape soda is awesome. Ceri is so right for the whole soda discussion, and I’m glad she’s there to be the voice of reason.
guys im def with ceri with the pepsi thing!!! i think it tastes so much better lmao but this only developed after i went 2+ years without any soda and now i only like pepsi and orange fanta (also guaraná because, hey, im still from brazil!)
I love Fanta Guaraná but it's only sold in a few countries. Also loved Pepsi's Josta but it's been discontinued everywhere (except 1 country, I think) Edit: or not. I might have been thinking of another soda that's sold in Australia or something
I moved away from aluminum based anti-perspirants sort of by accident and just from a quality of life perspective I don't think I'll ever go back. As someone who generally is more sensitive to odors than others, it's always been a struggle to find a deodorant that both works but also doesn't make me ill (headaches and general discomfort). I tried out Native's unscented and boy does it really work. Problem was I also would sweat profusely all day/all the time, and just after switching the problem really seemed to get a lot worse. But I stuck with it and after maybe 3 to 6 months it really started to decline. Now after several years, except during the heat of summer, I don't really sweat a very noticeable amount. My top 3 contenders for why: it could be age, it could be Native does a better job at blocking the pores than aluminum or it could be my body has stopped trying to compensate for the presence of the aluminum. (This all happened prior to the big C reducing my sense of smell). Anyone else have a similar experience?
Many northern Indigenous cultures, my own included, used sphagnum moss as material for diapers because of how absorbent it is (in addition to antiseptic properties.) Makes sense people used it later for menstrual pads!
the mustache spoon: as somebody who has a very convenience oriented approach to facial hair, I trim mine to stubble, then let it grow in until the "mustache dip" starts happening, whereupon I trim it again. there is no "here comes the airplane" method of doing it. your lips make a seal against the utensil. consider yogurt, ice cream, peanut butter, honey, pea soup. for liquid out of a glass or a cup, imagine tilting your head back and trying to allow the liquid to dribble into your mouth... sounds disastrous to me. anyone who's ever tried to pour automotive fluids into the car without a funnel knows exactly how this will go. maybe 10% of the time you can get it in clean.
You can definitely let your cats play rough. They are natural predators, little killing machines, playing rough is their way to socialize. As long as they don't hurt each other, they will be fine. They have their thick coats and reflexes. (Unless they don't, in that case you probably need to moderate it...). My vet tells me "as long as blood is not drawn, it's perfectly fine". If you feel bothered about it, you can play with your cat more... they need to spend their pent up predator energy somehow.
Yeah...my cats play "soft paws" until it goes beyond play. My oldest learned years ago, "Use your words!" I don't even tell him anymore and he will try to first vocalize his displeasure, then comes soft paws, and finally claws out. Cats also pull punches when playing with another cat weaker than them, and that goes for big cats like lions as well.

I'm living in germany and I prefer Pepsi over Coke, it could be a local thing but Coke tastes exactly like the discounter version but is 3 times more expensive.
Pepsi VS Coke: When I worked at a supermarket in Tennessee, Pepsi products sold WAY more than Coke products - they really like things that taste sugary, think sweet tea; but the supermarkets I worked in in New York State sold way more Coke products than Pepsi products. Fanta flavors were definitely low-selling, if the store carried these at all
I know that lots of people worry that taking birth control that stops your menstrual cycle might be harmful because its a natural process that bodies do. But from what Ive heard there doesnt appear to be evidence that the stoppage of periods from birth control specifically is harmful. So im going to just assume not just because your body does it, doesnt mean its necessary (looking at you auto immune diseases).
I'll drink whatever diet pop is cheapest, usually. The price has gone so far up I'm mostly buying the Kroger store brand right now. I used to prefer Diet Coke, but I've come to enjoy Diet Pepsi, mostly if I can get the cherry version. The Zero Sugar versions of all of them are especially good IMO.
there is a video on tik tok of a guy in a white shirt and black striped pants. He's singing about a baby lobster. He looks like Sam and it makes me think y'all should do an episode on crustaceans and Sam should just submit that video as his poem.
Okay. Here's what I need to see before I die. The gang plays DnD and they their Hank Bucks that they've accumulated over the years to bolster their rolls. Like in "The big guy". If they fail a roll by 1 they can spend a hank buck to succeed.
My solution to the antiperspirant debates is I stopped shaving my armpits and I just use antiperspirant because any evidence that suggests there could be issues there comes from shaving with the use of the antiperspirants so yeah I just went ahead and stopped shaving and you know what it turns out armpit hair reduces BO quite a bit and also I don't get boob snag which is the worst thing ever and I'm sure all the ladies here are familiar with it. Out of all of the body parts that people shave I'm going to say that armpits are probably one of the most inappropriate. We only do it cus people made it a norm at some point but it's completely impractical.
I agree with Ceri, pepsi is better. But only real sugar pepsi because the normal pepsi tastes weird really cold. Once room temperature, they taste the same. Also a fun fact, or, an observation, if you put sugar packets into coke, it fizzes over and makes a mess. If you put sugar packets into pepsi, it does not. Do not put sugar into coke in a carpeted area, you will make janitors mad.

I like ALL of the sodas listed. I also prefer Pepsi, but will take a coke if it's made with real sugar, not corn syrup. Grape Fanta and Squirt are amazing. I was excited when pepsi and coke hit the lime craze. Mt Dew us my day soda. It replaces coffee for me.

Hey Hank, Any addictive substance will start to taste good if your brain associates the flavor with the addictive substances effects. Remove the caffeine from your experiment group and see if they still like artificial sweeteners.
I actually like the taste of artificial sweetener. As a kid I would suck on sweet n low packets like they were candy. I still use it as my preferred sweetener in drinks and on top of fruit. Everyone is different. Not everyone hates artificial sweeteners.
If Hank's foot washing references be inspired from biblical passages directing someone to do so, a few of those entries are actually euphemisms for sex. Not all of them: some of them are actually literal.
Did people wash their hands with soap and water way back when though? Or did they all just use the same bucket of water. I cant imagine that would've made much of a difference. No dirt but loads of germs.
I am blown that they never tested period products with actual blood. Bombastic side eye!
Yeah, prejudices and stigma kill. This prejudice against menstruation has done so much harm 😢

I think you're right, but I haven't been able to find where...
@@SciShowTangents just found it, the acid episode! :D
When does the razor promo end?
I love the mbmbam opening
Ziggy zaggy, ziggy zaggy, oiy oiy oiy!! Drink drink 🍻
30:26 ooh! DYK most schools no longer exclude children from attendance for lice. Students getting regular lice screenings is a thing of the past.
Man, that's truly disappointingly typical of our country's commitment to the children of our Nation. Dang.
I’m genuinely curious to hear this information. I feel like I reak constantly on a daily basis, despite no one ever complaining about my BO.
@@youtubing9762that or they’re being polite and not saying anything
im sorry man but if you can smell yourself, other people probably can also 🥹 you can always just ask people around you like "hey be honest. do i smell bad rn?" people usually don't outright complain about people's body odour out of politeness or care for the person's feelings
Wow, I actually guessed what Sfagnakins were without peeking! I guess it pays to know about moss...
18:00 it makes a ton of sense that the predominantly female medical staff in WWI would quickly catch on to the many utilities of better-absorbing blood bandages.
Diet Dr. pepper 🌶️ is the best!!
Dr. Pepper... chile? is that a thing?
That sweet sweet MBMBAM reference at the begining.
Edit: Pepsi Ginger ale
i cant tell the difference between diet and regular soda is there something wrong with me or is everyone over exaggerating
I'm living in germany and I prefer Pepsi over Coke, it could be a local thing but Coke tastes exactly like the discounter version but is 3 times more expensive.
Oooh, callback to the Cramberry egg on the ground!
Also, women are told not to use aluminum antiperspirant before mamagrams so the aluminum would not show up as an artifact on the mamagram images.
That extended intro song caught me off guard
Me too. I'll punish Editor Seth appropriately
@@SciShowTangents Don't be too harsh!
Consider: a Pizza John mustache token.
You said people are selling the beard token but i can't find any (uk) please i have beardy people who are always in need of stupid presents!
Antiperspirant makes me sweat more, though I also sweat more when it's slightly cold
2:53 agree Pepsi is better then coke. I like other things more then Pepsi but between the two Pepsi is much better. Dr. Pepper is the best.
shhhh hank nobody can know about the man show" - jimmy kimmel lol
there is a video on tik tok of a guy in a white shirt and black striped pants. He's singing about a baby lobster. He looks like Sam and it makes me think y'all should do an episode on crustaceans and Sam should just submit that video as his poem.
😭😭 thanks for treating women like people it's so nice from a science man
Sam and I would definitely be friends... our interests likes and takes are creepy level matching given we have never met, lol.
Okay. Here's what I need to see before I die. The gang plays DnD and they their Hank Bucks that they've accumulated over the years to bolster their rolls. Like in "The big guy". If they fail a roll by 1 they can spend a hank buck to succeed.
I love it here
My solution to the antiperspirant debates is I stopped shaving my armpits and I just use antiperspirant because any evidence that suggests there could be issues there comes from shaving with the use of the antiperspirants so yeah I just went ahead and stopped shaving and you know what it turns out armpit hair reduces BO quite a bit and also I don't get boob snag which is the worst thing ever and I'm sure all the ladies here are familiar with it.
Pepsi is better than coke, I'm with her on this. Coke also makes my teeth squeak for some reason, no other drink does this to me.
"It's helping me cut down on my plastic consumption, which hosting this show has made me very anxious about."
*Scene cuts to Hank with what appears to be a drink in a disposable plastic cup on the desk beside him."
I'm chosing to assume that it's actually a reusable cup designed to resemble a disposable one. I have faith in you, Hank.
I realize that I misspelled, choosing. I chose not to bother editing my comment.
It replaces coffee for me.
if henson shaving or another razor company wasnt the sponsor of this episode, your editor isnt doing his job!!!
this comment means nothing, i dont own a henson razor and i probably wont buy 1 because my existing razor works fine, i like how they talk about having bespoke blades with specific heads for (other razor brand) like butterfly safety razors have SO many choices in blade style
Algorithmic punch!
I’m with her. Pepsi is better than Coke in every way. HOWEVER neither holds a candle to Dr. Pepper.
Ouch, pepsi is good but McDonald's coke is on another level man. Seriously, there has been research. Dr Pepper, however, is still the KING!!! Pepper pals forever, 10/2/4 represent
Coke is only good with rum 👍
great, no search result for "what's your team name" or "teen name"... is it just name a bad soda then a good one?
Your least favorite soda followed by your favorite soda. It is a very silly bit from the McElroy Brothers.
@@erikaiverson4122 k, thanks for having mercy... I know I'm lame for missing the reference... at least it was largely inferrable from context
Ceri is correct: Pepsi is the best cola, better than Coke. Come at me!
Most of my family in the PNW like Pepsi better than Coke. I think it might be a regional thing.
Is the team name a mbmbam reference? In their TV show, they had their team names be their least favorite soda then their favorite soda.
I wonder if it affects soldiers that are provided with tampons for gunshot wounds...?
I didn't know Sam was a supporter of the greatest football team in England, The Claret and Blue Army, ASTON VILLA. Made up for the lack of Ceri's Cat.
Listened on spotify but I came here to leave a comment.
I’d like to point out the raw irony that I got an ad for native deodorant, which is probably one of the worst deodorants I’ve ever used, at the beginning of this video 😂
Or replace with non-caffinated pop. Sprite zero is fantastic.
Hi Gina 🤣
Why did the very end cut out? The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire...
The waiting screen is anxiety inducing. I need an impact
Don't let your cat bite you. Those can get nasty infections.
If Hank's foot washing references be inspired from biblical passages directing someone to do so, a few of those entries are actually euphemisms for sex. Not all of them: some of them are actually literal.
"Hi Gina, how's it going"
Did people wash their hands with soap and water way back when though? Or did they all just use the same bucket of water. I cant imagine that would've made much of a difference. No dirt but loads of germs.
2:45 🖐 I hate diet soda, also Pepsi is better than coke
If sharks have no feet, do cleaner wrasse still take walk ins?
What did one lice say to the other? "Lice to meet you."
