The oceans are without a doubt the most beautiful, mysterious and quite often, most terrifying environments that exist on our planet. A world that lies right on our doorstep, yet even to this day we know so little about it. To put it into perspective, a well-known statistic explains that even though our oceans cover more than 70% of the Earth's surface, over 80% of them still remain unexplored to this day. New species of life are discovered on a yearly basis the deeper and further we go. Begging the question each time, of who really knows what else could be out there?
But in spite of the dread it may ignite in us, the ecosystem of this neighbouring world is nevertheless extremely vital for our planet’s overall health. With coral reefs depleting at such alarming rates around the world, awareness and alternative solutions for marine life is needed more than ever.
It should come to no surprise how a force as unpredictable and wondrous as the sea has inspired so many artists and writers for thousands of years. And at times, artists have even immersed themselves fully into the deep with some beautifully haunting sculptures that lie on the sea bed. Many on the internet would consider these strange and creepy, like ghosts waiting in the depths. But the more you look into stories behind them, the more you realise just how inspiring and even beneficial to nature they truly are. An almost ingenious way to create harmony and understanding between humankind and sea.
And as someone who has a deep love and interest in the ocean but also a very visceral sense of fear and respect for it ever since I had a fairly traumatic scuba diving accident, I have always been fascinated by underwater statues. They truly are an experience like no other and I’m always a huge advocate for the many unique and quirky ways for one to experience art.
From submerged saints to colossal giants, in this video we are going under the surface together to marvel at some of the most incredible underwater statues that exist today. As well as where they came from and what they represent.

I love the fact that art like this can also enhance the local ecosystems they inhabit.
Water is such a welcoming element. Every time you stare at a beautiful deep ocean it's just begging you to dive in. Water is the mother of many creatures and she tries her hardest to manage all of them. Sometimes it's fun to pretend that you live in the ocean. Like you're sitting in your living room, and all of its contents are submerged into the sea. Like the two lands, the one where we breathe, and the one where the fish breath are the same.
Water is life but to me the ocean is different. Many people have a fear of the deep ocean. I'd like to believe it's a deep instinctual remnant to protect us and reminds us we evolved to escape the ocean because of something there waiting.
Cold and wet and horrible.
Made something like this and wanted to call it Harmony Reef. Unfortunately, the fishermen themselves bashed and destroyed the installations by anchoring their boats on them. My heart broke into a million pieces.
Where was it at
That's heartbreaking -- and such a perfect example of why we have a problem in our oceans in the first place
Sorry to hear that ☹️ I hope some day you can find the motivation to try it again sometime. There must be ways to get local permission to section off the area of your work from boats and leave it only for divers/snorkelers. Don't give up!
I would die from fright if I saw that shark without warning. Or even with warning.
Wish i can dive in and take pictures of these sculptures they're breath taking
Fabulous Video-Thank you-keep up the great work-you’re channel Rocks!❤
These really are some amazing sculptures, in one of the most beautiful environments in the world. And i really find Madline's works to really be something special. Great video Mr.Dweller.
Love that your exploring different types of art specifically statues with this vid, easily one of my favorite channels❤️
awesome video, I love when you do more unique content like this
That was a fascinating look at under the sea statues- had no idea there were so many - practically a terracotta army dwells there! Thanks for uploading, great vid.
Medeline's art is incredible! Thank you
Wait, that shark is not an edit? Is actually an statue? That's crazy.
Such a beautiful video-- I come back to this periodically. I'm shocked you've not got more subscribers. Brilliantly done, as ever!!
This video was beautiful. It really helped me reset after that veiled, "Me being an asshole to everyone is a valid form of expression," art-style of that Nobody Jr. guy.
This is the kind of art I completely understand and appreciate. :) I can't ever imagine visiting it though!
Thoroughly enjoy your channel and sharing your content.
Excellent video. Many thanks for interesting subject matter.
This is fascinating! I've never seen or heard of these before. Great video, as always.
This was such a lovely and inspiring video, thank you for this!
thank you for posting as much as I'd love to see it live I'm terrified of the ocean. I never even heard of these before. Keep up the great work👍You have the best artwork on your channel..thank you
I'd love to see you talk about Christian Rex van Minnen! A master in surrealism!
7:56 had a breath taking view
OMG I LOVE THESE ONES!! Though my favourite underwater sculptures are the House of Fish/Casa dei Pesci on the Maremma coastline, not only do they look awesome, they help to stop the illegal trawling that happens just off the coast there. I'm not gonna elaborate, but!!! They look so awesome!
I'm so happy that you covered this subject, thank you!
Brilliant video idea
holy cow!! This is amazing!!!!
I hope that thousands of years from now archeologists will be fascinated by all of these sculptures
Very intereting!!

Now i want to go to the Beach
✌🏼👙🌴🐬🌊🦎much love from sw florida
If I was to stumble over that shark, I would instantly empty my bowels into my wetsuit or just die of fright.
you've inspired me to get into charcoal drawings
Hi I love your vidoes!
I resently found the art of Naoto Hattori and his art is so amazing, if you have time I would really love to see a vidoe about his art!
The ocean adds depth
Wow! This was fascinating. I have never heard of these sculptures before! Great video!
I have an idea for you for a video, and I may have already said this, but-ALICE NEEL. She was so interesting and my great grandmom actually went to the Philadelphia school for the arts for women with her! My Mimi(who was also an artist) knew her! I promised myself I was sending you pics of my art to your email this week, and I chickened out again! Lol soon! I promised myself, even if you don't do anything with it.😊
I have always been interested in underwater statues ....
Good for you?
@@itsgonnabeanaurfromme pineapple
Scary
whats the name of the song of your intro
I wish you would post more often I love the way you break down the story of the art when u speak of it.
bit more silly than the examples here but in Minnesota there's a floating underwater sculpture of Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th part 7!
👏🖤
But has anyone done one depicting cthulhu?
That would be awesome 😆
🐐
You've had a scuba accident?
I did. When I was in Egypt, me, my dad and some others were diving in the Red Sea, during an exercise my regulator filled up with water and I nearly drowned 😅
Fun fact this is one of my biggest phobias… human sculptures, but more specifically human sculptures UNDERWATER 😵💫🫠🫠
