I take a much deeper dive in this video ua-cam.com/video/SCs88yvg63s/v-deo.html&ab_channel=BawkbaVods Hope everyone enjoyed my initial reaction
They took over a year to release a second trailer and we don’t even have a release date.
I’m hoping for the best, but my Spidey sense is screaming at me to prepare for the worst
You want a cyberpunk situation with too early release date?
not to mention, the trailer they released was kind of booty...
@@vanpiisu88Rather it come out awful than cook for 7 years in the oven and release still awful like Duke Nukem Forever… or Beyond Good & Evil 2 or… you get the point. Stop pilfering the misattributed Miyamoto quote that never was.
@@vanpiisu88Cyberpunk released exactly when it wanted to, the problem was the studio only giving the devs 2 or so years to actually make the game and lying in trailers. I don't think Bloober team is lying here, this is on par with their dev skills.
Not just any trailer even, a COMBAT TRAILER for a horror game where the combat isn't and has never been the focal point.
This game is so doomed.
this looks like a small creator group on steam made a silent Hill two remake😭
Looks like I made a Silent Hill 2 remake in my basement on a Soviet computer from 1987
Right...not made and developed by the Japanese devs. Ultra Fail
I don't understand the fake outrage. This looks better than i expected.
@@infinityblablablaI kinda agree with you. But I never expected it to be good in the first place. People forget this IP belongs to a Pachinko company after all.
@@schillville ahhhh... Kojima-drone huh? Bro let go he was fired a decade ago and death stranding proved he never really had what it takes to helm a silent hill title. I guess with Overdose we will know for sure.
I will say, as much as i love silent hill 2, the original was also clunky. (not saying this clunky is okay, its more just the people acting like the original had no clunky combat, no stiff and clunky animations)
The funny thing is that clunky controls, janky animations, camera angles and limited render distance, added to the horror of it. The janky animations added something unnatural and unnerving about enemies that wasn't just how they looked, the clunky controls made you feel vulnerable since you had to worry about being able to fight or run which was compounded by the tight hallways, the limited draw distance is how we got the fog that added a creepy atmosphere, and the static camera angles made you unsure of what was coming as you could hear the radio so you knew there was something but didn't know what. They took the bad things and made it work toward the goal of horror.
Right, but that was 25 years ago. This just looks off.
But shouldn’t a game that’s coming out over 20 years later fix those problems?
Nah, it's people acting as though the original's combat and animations weren't superior to this that are the problem.
we excuse old games feeling "clunky" bc they are old, this is not acceptable for games nowdays, heck i would argue it stopped being acceptable in the early 2010s
yea my first thoughts were, it definitely looks stiff with animations in the combat and the noise of guns too
but hey, it says in development so hopefully thats not final footage
You can slowly see Bawk's smile disappear only to be forced back out near the end because he forgot to breathe cause his raspatory system failed.
That's why I love Bawk reaction lol. Remind me of when he react to ReVerse.

@@ESPLTD782 ya at least those games have better animations holy f that bat swing is horrible
The combat looked rough. The puzzle stuff was cool.
Im dumbfounded at the outrage. Silent hill 2 isn't built around a great combat system, combat/gameplay takes a backseat in favour of mystery, layered storytelling, themes, puzzles and exploration. The horror and suspense derives from an incapable undepowered protagonist. Im not sure what people expected going into this, if anything it remains faithful. The enemy designs are great, the aesthetic and art direction is stellar, the story is yet to be revealed and how much tweaking may have gone into it. But overall it looks promising and most importantly FAITHFUL.
The QTEs worry me too but yeah the gunplay looked janky
@@mrpussinboots4252 silent hill 2's main point definitely isn't about combat. that's why releasing a trailer specifically about combat is a bad move. they're trying to make the combat stand out more than it did in the original.
@@iitzfizz Tbf in the original if you grabbed you had to button mash anyway.
@@mrpussinboots4252You're right, Silent Hill 2 isn't built around a combat system.
Its combat system is still better I'm every way than the remake's.
Furthermore, if you cared about faithfulness you'd have dropped out 2 years ago when the first trailer showed James as overly emotional and crying at everything, which ruins basically the entire game, but that doesn't seem to bother you for some reason.
Another blooper reel from Bloober.
As expected a combat focused SH2 looks fuckin awful
Yeah it should feel more impactful like Darkwood and not arcade-like in my opinion.
Right
Its not entirely combat focused tho, it does still seem like you can get overwhelmed and you still feel somewhat vulnerable, the monsters seemed pretty beefy and like something you might want to avoid, and the camera despite being 3rd person, it does seem like aiming isnt that crazy powerful like a fps game and you feel james is still somewhat unexperienced
Theres a new selection of weapons but its not anything too crazy, the melee combat seems more intense but i dont think its combo fighting like homecoming, if this is the max level of action you can get in it, it looks pretty good
they seemed to keep it faithful so far while adressing the most common critics which were the controls and combat mechanics, along with camera angles, although i personally believe that was some great traits about the original as it contributed to the horror of feeling vulnerable and weak, it will however attract more people into the game while still feeling somewhat vulnerable, i think it pleases both the new audience and us the veteran players
Lets stay optimistic with a leg behind us, i think the game has a chance of being great, watch it a few more times over with an open mind
No different than the original. The original is saturated with enemies that mostly you can just run past. If you fight them it'll look pretty much like this, just with more jank. So at least the jank is on point.
Wdym? Homecoming 2 is looking great
LOOKS pretty but the gameplay is like any other budget RE clone. His walk animation is also stiff and mopey, we get it, he’s sad!. And gun sound effects are weak AF. So yeah, style over substance it seems. I can see why Bloober never do combat now…

Why have unique games lost their identity chasing whats popular!? This looks just like RE which works in RE but I want SH I want cool camera angles and dont want to see mash X to escape grab etc, button prompts are a thing I dislike in many games seeing I get close for e.g and see a Square pop on screen breaks immersion I already know its Square to grab attack or whatever just something that annoys me, wonder if James will say things during puzzle sequences like 'perhaps I should try this' u know like in GOW Ragnarok u get told the solution after a few seconds? James shuffling walk animations weird, I need to see more just things I'm thinking
Its looking like a very scuffed resident evil 4 remake...
I was especially worried by the running and opening doors animations. They just don't look right. I hope they have time to refine the game until release day.
On a positive note, the exteriors are absolutely amazing. The town couldn't look better (it might be the best rendition of the town to date) and the fog is equally incredible.
Bloober's strong point is DEFINITELY their artwork. They knock it out of the park with their visuals. Everything else, eh........

10 dollar steam game hahaha, good one
SH combat has been garbage across the board, so not surprised by this. Give almost any SH game a combat trailer and it would look like a 4/10 at best, even for their times.
I remember almost not playing the old ones because of how poor the gameplay looked lol but ended up loving them for the atmosphere, story, characters, ect. Basically everything but the combat
Eh, thought it looked solid enough. Combat has never been the strong suit of SH2, or any SH game really.

Wtf where they thinking releasing this footage to a diehard Niche community. I feel like i just had glass shat into my eye sockets.
Wrong timeline fellas.
Me too looks not like a high quality game. I mean I had already not high expectations but the trailer was even. Under my low quality expectations 👀
The silent hill community is the worst, the minute something looks bad the community erupts with the fury of 1000 rabid dogs who just spotted a cat give it some time they are clearly passionate about the game and this looks like early footage anyways
I loved the resident evil remake style but man, something about the creature designs seem... off, almost like they are missing the grittyness and dirty look that makes silent hill what it is. Hopefully being "in development" means it will sit longer in the oven and inevitably become a remake that can sit among the likes of deadspace and resident evil
The funny thing is that clunky controls, janky animations, camera angles and limited render distance, of the original added to the horror of it. All these things also give a disconnect from James as you aren't seeing things from his perspective, and seeing as it's is like James is telling the player a story (incorrectly) it fits the narrative.
Now that they are able to update and remove all of these things smoothing out the edges it looses some of it's charm. Now don't get me wrong these animations still look bad but not in the same creepy way the original did. This also looks like they are hiking up the action in place of the horror, seeing a nurse hop over a chest high wall as James gets headshots with the shotgun does not inspire confidence in a horror game.
the voice acting too... no doubt it is going to be technically "better" than the original, but those voices were a bit strange on purpose... they sound like just some person talking instead of an actor.
Yeah, the original looked good and was high quality, the jank was because they figured out it'd be scarier. This just looks like they couldn't do any better.

Look chief, imma keep it real with you. I never played silent hill games for the combat, it is serviceable at best and that's ok. I play it for the atmosphere, which I feel so far it looks good, but still keeping my eye on it after reviews. The combat already looks better than the original, which is a very low bar to put on. I agree that it looks iffy, doesn't mean that they can improve it. But imo, if they remake PROPERLY the reasons why I like SH2, such as the atmosphere and story, designs, and music, along other things, then I'm ok with the combat remaining mid.
No, no the combat does not look better than the original. The original had good animations that conveyed clumsiness, this game has bad animations that convey action hero horseshit.
Furthermore, the first trailer already dashed all hope of a faithful remake in terms of tone and story.
combat is the least you do in these games , you conserve ammo for the bosses
I only kill weak enemies when they are in my way other than that I avoid them
Yo we don’t need every survival horror remake to be over the shoulder after RE2 did it
Survival horror did that before RE2
@@kirak1561 But the OP was specifically talking about remakes.
Especially with Silent Hill. The fixed/dynamic camera is really crucial to SH imo. Like when you enter rooms and the camera is facing in a direction where you can't see into the room and can only go by the sounds that you hear, makes it incredibly scary especially in the apartments lol.
ummm over the shoulder was here a decade before re2 and ummm no thank u, id like to play in my over the shoulder 3rd person style tyvm
Lmao RE4 did it. Also you got the wrong game, it's RE2 remake not RE2
Don’t get why everyone hates the combat. The original SH2 has a similiar combat, they literally just made it a little more modern. And there was this kind of combat before RE2 remake.
Combat is fine, but the animations feel incredibly stiff.
@@blueflare3848 maybe they improve these things. What I find more problematic is the camera ankle. Horror in SH was created with the camera, because we weren’t supposed to see everything. Fear of the unknown
@@kirak1561yeah the clown speaks this game its garbage
@@kirak1561 Sure. I’m hoping this is just an early build and they will improve the animations for the final version. I’m willing to give them that benefit of the doubt, but even so. The combat looks very janky as of right now.
I personally don’t mind the camera angle. I like over-the-shoulder games, so that doesn’t bother me too much.
Also, upon rewatching the trailer, I’ve noticed that the melee attacks have no real weight to them. It’s a little jarring. Hopefully they fix this. I don’t think the combat is necessarily bad, but it could be improved.
That looked like shit to be honest. Plus the gameplay didn't show much besides the gunplay which isn't even the main aspect that is appealing for SH2. Really hope we see an improvement in later showings, because that was rough to watch.
Man so many people on the copium. "Man its in development". If your gonna show something don't show a turd then hope it will turn into an enchanted castle with rainbows. Keep expectations in check if its crap 2 years from now then u won't be too disappointed
I’m willing to give it the benefit of the doubt since it might be an early build, but if that’s the case then why show it off? Or at the very least, why not have a disclaimer saying it’s an early version of the game and that the final version might look different?
The guns lack any punch whatsoever. What's the point of bringing a flawed classic to a modern era if you're not going to fix the janky elements.
The gunplay looks so amateurish lol like a low budget unity game
it's bloober team, I have no expectations
The over the shoulder cam looks wobbly. I hope they stabilize this.
Holy shit that looks bad
I don't think it looks bad. I just don't think it looks like a classic Silent Hill experience. Someone should do a video contrasting this trailer with the original SH2 trailer, and explain why the emphasis on atmosphere, mystery, and story was what made the original so popular, and its trailer so intriguing. This new trailer seems to suggest that the game is about killing monsters. The original game and its trailer made it clear that the human characters and their stories were what the game was about.
I'm keeping an open mind here with SH2 Remake. I just think that we have been VERY spoiled by developers like Naughty Dog-their games just have such satisfying gameplay with lots, and lots of animations. That is crazy! Here on the other hand, I can tell that the melee weapons will have three swings every time: short, medium, and a long/strong one. That's it. Even though it's hard to swallow this pill, it's sad to know that Bloober Team is not Naughty Dog, nor modern RE team A. I kind of liked how different and re-imagined the monsters look, even after being shot. Some of them behave like mannequins, well, weren't there mannequins? I kind of see how they'd be broken in pieces with shots. Hopefully everything ends up being good. Just one thing that really annoyed me was the sound design, SPECIALLY the pistol. It sounded kind of silenced....
Im glad theres no release date yet cause it looks like a homecoming mod
I got to be honest i didnt even have high expectations for this and yet it still somehow looked even worse than i thought it would

@@19HajimeSaitou91
You can call nitpicking, but I think they tried to apply the Gothic/Epic medieval themes too hard ignoring the original intent. BP interviews made it very clear they see Souls games as "Hard Game where you die a lot, just gameplay, nothing else" and ignored the art direction. Everything has to look epic, from graphics to the soundtrack when the original intent was to portray a sad and decaying world ( again, recurrent Souls games theme )
To mention some things: Fat officials were supposed to represent greed and oppression, in the remake they are gross and sloppy. Also for some reason, every monster has to be gross ( something Miyazaki tries to evade ). The entire Latria section was botched, from sound design to visual. Fool's idol is an angry Hindu deity now, instead of, you know, a fool's idol?
Overall, I understand DS Remake has to be impressive and show the PS5 power so they can sell consoles, I just don't think this is the right game for it. To be fair, I don't think a remake should be the main title for a console launch either, I see it more as a red flag for this generation than anything else.
But I'm not a gatekeeper, I know most players just wanted to play the grandfather of hard games in next-gen graphics, so good for them. The thing with remakes is that once they are out, the original starts to fade because they are not getting ports in the future, just the remakes will.
Love the cut scene but the main game just need more work .
I’m glad it looks janky

It looks like another over the shoulder third person shooter modern RE clone. Hard pass.
Regardless of any trailer or news or review I will 100% buy this on release day. However this did not look very impressive
The RE4 remake is barely much better than the original if we are all honest, but it's worth playing over the original for what it offers as an experience. This though......
"In Development"
My guys. 😭
i think the reason theres no release date along with the animations lookin weird is cuz the games still in development and theyre really taking their time to make it as perfect as possible so this trailer is like a rough draft or whatever u wanna call it (im still gonna play it anyway)
Why should they show their product to the world when it lacks basic stuffs. Also many people are skeptical about the game now it would be a pointless marketing crash for them and I think fixing gamerelated is not possible and would need much time again. For now it looks like cheap budget production I think they will fix few bugs nothing more otherwise they would have done it since beginning.

It looks good. I think people are missing the combat in SH2 was wonky on purpose. James isn't a member of STARS or something, he's just suppose to be an average dude. If they had gun combat that was like a twitch shooter, I'd be more worried.
Wonky combat is fine, but these animations and sound effects seem like they're straight outta the public domain
But that’s not an excuse for the movements to be so stiff and unnatural looking.
It looks like it could be fun in terms of gameplay, seeing how it basically just looks like the modern RE remakes, but I just don't see it being anywhere near on the level of the original. The original game was just lightning in a bottle. Everything from the muddy ps2 visuals benefitting the atmosphere and look of the game, to the weird voice acting, the sound effects, OST, it just really can't be surpassed.

Im gonna be honest, the melee system looks pretty good overall, Jame's swings feel weighty and the reaction of the monsters to the impact feels apropriate, the monster designs also look pretty good overall, what is cause for concern is the weapon sounds, the pistol especially, and the lack of oomf some of the shots have, especially the shotgun, both times we see it shoot it hits the nurses shoulder with like no reaction, some of the pistol shots had more reaction. That kick animation is also iffy. Incredible, someone actually reasonable in these comments. The remake looks mostly fine and will be an enjoyable experience, so long as you don't let people bitch and moan in your ear about how it'd doomed for failure
I am cautiously optimistic. I feel like there's more good then bad with what was shown overall and theres great potential here, constante negative feedback with no constructive critiscism won't do us any favours. I mean why did they put the action music? Because it is an action game it seems. I did not feel the tension. Sometimes you dont need music to get tension. Its also how they made it seem like RE2 style. Come on. Use the classic gameplay overhead survival horror style please.
Clearly they thought the combat was good enough to be showcased, so I highly doubt we'll see any improvements.
