Dude. As someone who grew up in a home with duck hunters, we had the duck stamp pictures plastered all over all walls back in the day. I THOUGHT IT WAS ONE PERSON, NOT A COMPETITION!! That’s so freaking cool to learn!! I love this so much!!!!

I can't put my finger on why they rub me the wrong way so much. I love all ugly animals. This is the very first time I've had such a negative reaction to an animal where I just can't bring myself to like them. Something about them just looks so wrong. They don't look real. They look like when AI image generation wasn't quite fully "there yet" and would spit out things that were wonky and wrong. It bothers me. On top of that, I feel guilty and like a bad person for feeling this way. Thus creating even more negative feelings surrounding this duck. I respect this duck, I have nothing against this duck, but I wish I never saw it and I hope to never see it again

I didn’t know there were competitions. So are there categories or different genres? Are there other stamp competitions? This is an entire world I didn’t even know existed until just now!!
@@MermaidMakes sadly no other categories- all focused on naturalism/realism - there are other stamp competitions! These are the only government/federally run art competitions and there are state level ones as well but they’re mostly for game animals and they’re used as fundraisers (:

I was a ranger at a park and one of our regulars was a lady that was in charge of the duck stamp contest. She didn't judge the works but she was in charge of ensuring + allocating resources for the contest every year/educating the 'higher ups' on why it's a valuable program. She was such a sweet and passionate person (literally wearing a waterfowl hoodie the 1st time i saw her). It's lovely to see the same passion from the other perspective. Best of luck!
i have just discovered you, but i just wanted to say how cool it is to see people supporting and participating the duck stamps!! for any one who’s not in the know, duck stamps, along with other programs, are a crucial part to the maintenance and funding of wildlife programs that preserve our *many* national parks in the united states.
I hope they pick your duck to help educate people on the species in a round-about way. Like, I didn't know this duck existed until I saw your video. So I hope they pick yours so more people recognize there are OTHER ducks than the ones we see all the time in the avian world.
I would use more greens to make the color in their face and little mullet pop more ace bump up the highlights and lowlights. You also want to pay attention to composition of the overall image. Those are the main differences between your pieces and past winners

I remember hearing about this competition a few years back when a friend that I didn't even know painted had entered. He showed me his piece and I was absolutely blown away with how stunning it looked. Needless to say, he did not win. That's when I looked into the entries for this and had realized just how high the caliber is 🤯 The greatest duck paintings i have ever witnessed. Your work proves to be just as spectacular!!
