      @@itzarex9996 the J/M elevated was built by the Brooklyn railroad company in the 1800's. These lines existed before the Williamsburg Bridge and required a ferry transfer to Manhattan. The 1 (oldest of the Bronx Els, the #4 being the newest), 3 and 6 were built by IRT/City as extension of it underground sections. This was the early 1900s.

      @@bornjamerican52 great for you. My love affair is with the A 8th Express. Harlem USA.
      I like the A is because when you get on the train, it moves fast. It doesn't always come when you need it though.
      Meanwhile, the J particularly has improve over the years. But it is has a lot of slow points, because the infrastructure it runs on is very, very old. It is more dependable though running at average headway outside rush hours.
      And Back in 1985, the J was notorious for using the R16s. The worse order of subway cars in nycta history. These trains would loose their acceleration at midpoint and becomes lemons at this point.
      The M has always had an identity crisis. First the Brighton local, than the 4th avenue local and later the express and back local again.
      After the crash it was cutback to chambers Street. Than eventually replaced the V as the new 6th Avenue local.
      The service is generally OK. Nothing to really write home about.

    I loved the first runby with the R-32's roaring by! I'll miss riding those veterans of the fast track! Each rush hour train had its own style as it danced along the rail joints. The night scenes were cool with the third rail flashovers! My favorite tunnel spots are along the 8th Avenue line between 72 Street and 116 Street-Cathedral Parkway, the Fulton Avenue part of the A route between Hoyt Schmerhorn and Euclid Avenue, and the portion of the E and F trains that race through Queens. This video reminds me of that phrase the Road Warriors would scream before they entered the ring: "OOOOOHH WHAT A RUSH!!" Thanks for the compilation!!

    Moved out of NYC in 2003, but back in the 80s and 90s, I would commute from downtown to Grand Central on the 4,5,6. My favorite "high speed" run was on the 4/5 between Grand Central and 14th Street/Union Square, viewed out the front window of the first car. Can you still do that these days? They used to really fly down that stretch. There was a derailment just north of 14th at the crossover back in the 90s I believe and because of that, they imposed a slower speed limit as you neared that crossover.

    • @joshbenton4080
      @joshbenton4080 2 роки тому +3

      Now that all of the "Red Birds" have been all retired from all of the IRT Lines (since about 2003), you can't look out of the front window that easily anymore. The newer equipment has a full width cab that doesn't permit you to see the subway tunnel like the older trains allowed you to. Worst of all, much of the newer equipment has AC Propulsion Systems and makes this very annoying high pitched "screaming" sound.

      They do go as fast if not faster underground. In fact, the fastest stretch of track is the 60th St Tube where trains can reach speeds in excess of 60mph. Trains on the Lexington Avenue and Broadway IRT can reach speeds of 50mph on express sections approaching 50th St southbound or entering 59th St northbound. Filming these sections is less easy as you can't see way down the track.
