  • Join me in part five of my ten day solo hike along the Höga Kustenleden in the Swedish High Coast. The Höga Kustenleden (High Coast Trail) is just over 128km long and I chose to walk it from South to North ending up in the town of Örnsköldsvik. There are a variety of cabins, windshelters and campsites along the trail as well as more formal accommodation and I made the most of all of them.

Do you know if there's an English language guidebook for this trail?

    • @HighlandWoodsman
      @HighlandWoodsman  Рік тому

Hi Robert, yes there is a small guidebook in English on högakusten.com. There is a more in depth book about the trail and the area and also topographical maps on calazo.se. A little expensive to ship them over from Sweden but I wasn't able to find them for sale in the UK if that's where you are 👍

I can understand your feeling of disappointment looking back on parts of the trip. I know that when I am hiking solo - which is always - I like to feel connected with the environment, with the forest. It’s a great feeling. But i can suddenly be ripped out of that peaceful mindset because of some inconsiderate person who feels that the rules don’t apply to them; like building unnecessary fire pits, pooping behind the cabin, or listening to music without ear buds.
The road walking is also not what I want out of my experience in nature. It’s what I am trying to take a break from.
That said, there were some magical areas and incredible views that I am not likely to experience firsthand, so I really appreciate you taking all of us along on this beautiful journey.
Thank you for doing all the work that a big hike like this one needs. I know it adds to the time and overall stress of something you’re meant to enjoy. It was a pleasure watching this series of videos and listening to your thoughts on various things. I look forward to more. 🙂

Yeah I'm the same with wanting to get away from civilization and and connect with nature. This trip was a little bit of rollercoaster between the two but still some great camping spots 😁

Thanks for a great series on the trail, great filming as well and nice to hear how you talk about the experience. Never underestimate Noodles, i to eat them a lot on trail combined with different types of meat, tuna and susages.
Sadly it's a bit common on road walking on lot of the trails, i'm sure this has to do with some of the landowners. Just to dig in deep and do the miles :).
    Fun facts about #affesstuga
"This green little cabin was built by a man named Alfred Skoglund in 1979. Over the years, the cabin has been used primarily for hunting, but also for forestry work. Alfred was a faithful hunter. When he went out to work, the bags were always filled to the brim, for example he always had the thick telephone directory of the Yellow Pages with him, maybe it was the "slösurf" of the time. A couple of years ago, Sören Johansson inherited the cabin and the cabin is still used today for hunting and forest management. As the number of hikers has increased significantly year after year, Sören chose to open up the cabin to the public, not least to you persistent hikers."

I know it’s a very late comment… but I think finding a water source was a negative too. It would have been amazing if there was drinkable water at the cabins or on the trail itself and within shorter distances too!!

Sam - thanks for sharing your epic trip. So glad that you finally got to complete it. I thoroughly enjoyed this series and it was well edited. I have just returned from a long weekend in Aviemore trying to emulate what you had, but the trees ran out quite quickly... Still very beautiful and all you previous Forest Talks made a lot of sense we you get to see it 'in the flesh' so to speak. You have a wonderful channel and please keep the content coming.

Cool video! Hope you liked it! I live in Örnsköldsvik and I think the ending is supposed to be on top of Varvsberget. If you would've continued on the stone road when you got to the mountain where the ski lifts where. It is a restaurant there and a really good view!
    Take care!

I'm sad, it's already over. 🥺 Last part has been different. But of course I watched it with the same interest like the other ones before. 😊 It felt strange to me to see you suddenly in civilizationed areas 🏨 instead of a wonderful relaxing forest scenery. 🏞️ Towns always make me feel a bit stressful. So how does that feel to you? It makes me laugh, that you filled up yourself with mountains of junk food and had lazy and wasted moments in a comfortable hotel room straight after your hike was done. 😂 It always surprises me, how we humans are addicted to such ordinary and kinda luxury things. So you seem to be a quite normal person. 😄😜
But, dear Sam, thanks so much for taking me/us with you. 🙏🏼 I enjoyed this hike really very much. 💚 And I think I will watch it again when I feel the need to escape from ordinary life here. Thanks also for giving summary at the end and last but not least for inspiring me in doing something like this too. 💫💭 Of course I'll give you a like here 👍🏼and I also give you an imaginary hug 🤗 for the whole hiking trip along the "Höga Kustenleden" in Sweden. 🇸🇪

      Hi Nadine,
Thanks again for all your support through this series and I'm glad you enjoyed it! I don't have any problems with being in cities and busy areas. I don't get stressed or anxious or anything like that but I just don't enjoy it or people!
I can be quite a normal person sometimes haha!
You should do it! Life is too short, choose a route and start planning now!

Top quality vid as always 👍🏻 so… all in all you are impressed but wouldn’t do this particularly trip again. The world is our oyster, so yeah I get that. But would you think any differently about it if Darach were with you? You must have missed him tho despite everything.
    😮 woolly maggots 🐑 yeah from a distance 😂
Don’t take this the wrong way btw but you do remind me of Conor MacGregor somehow, must be the red beard. Huge fan too btw 👊🏻

    • @HighlandWoodsman

Hi John I got the train from Stockholm Arlanda to Härnösand it took about five hours. I booked it through the SJ app. There was a Q8 fuel station about 200 metres away from the bus / train station where I picked up gas. I then got a bus from Härnösand to Hörnoberget and the start of the trail. The bus was about 30 mins. You can see times and buy tickets on the Din Tur app. Hope that helps 👍
