    Filmed in Tokyo, September 2010.
Masakazu Imanari is the enigmatic grappler known as the Ashikan Judan - Master of Leglocks.
No man has destroyed as many legs as him. Knees and ankles are his enemy. He hates them.
Want to find out how he got started in the martial arts?
    Whether he enjoys breaking bones?
    Where his leglocks came from?
Well you're never going to know because Imanari's interview style is as elusive and strange as his fighting style. But still, you should watch it anyway.
This is a rare and exclusive look at Masakazu Imanari (and Aoki Shinya, as well as Shigeru Saeki) in their natural habitat...
Check it out, and be sure to watch the rest in the series.
Sorry, 3 minutes of blackness at the end and UA-cam does not have a "replace video" function.

He’s a funny and chill guy... when not in the ring or cage. He’s made a lot of orthopedic surgeons very, very wealthy. Guy is a straight-up killer.

    What's your style?
My style? You could call it "Imanari," or the art of fighting without fighting.
    Show me some of it.
I can't. When I do it, I'm on the ground and behind you so you only know I'm there by the excruciating pain permeating throughout your entire being, but you can't actually 'SEE' what I'm doing.
    Never mind.

@kid108 You're not wrong! Actually we had a highly professional interpreter... He still talked nonsense. Great fun though.

@grapplingdummies I don't know about the raw footage, but the answers you chose were all informative and made sense. Great interview, by the way; I was delighted to see an interview with Imanari, as he has fast become my favourite fighter.

@grapplingdummies it's so insane to realize that this guy is mostly self trained.I mean, no sambo or anything? And just a few months as a teenager under Satoru Sayama, getting hit with a stick?

awesome interview! i know you guys thought he was making up stuff when he was talking about the pro wrestling and kickboxing thing but there is actually footage of 2 of his amateur fights in Kingdom Pro Wrestling. one fight he wins with a figure four straight arm bar, the other with a toe hold. the bit about training with tiger mask and fujiwara im not sure about, but that'd be awesome if its true lol

Well his Imanari roll is actually a Fujiwara roll so it checks out

A lot of people are commenting on how this guys is boring. His mannerisms and speech patterns are just really really Japanese. As an Asian Studies major with a focus on Japanese language and Kyokushin Karateka, I found this really interesting to observe

Clearly, this guy is impossible to interview if you don´t speak japanese fluently. He´s way too weird to give a straight answer.
