@@Kurtster600 LMAO. I wanted to see this comment even before expanding the thread to see it and you delivered. No idea why he's not around more, Bryan slaps. It's too bad!
@Suncreation666 just because a melody isn't singable doesn't mean it isn't a melody. That sense of "where will it go next?" is what intrigues those that love jazz.
this guy... wow! One of the very hardest things you can do as a jazz-fusion guitarist these days is to play your own lines... in my opinion Baker is one of the very few doing this in stacked field of monster guitarist----tremendous
His playing in amazing for sure - reminds me of the days staying up until all hours listening to Coltrane, Ornette and Eric Dolphy, Rhasaan Roland Kirk - a little - but I just dont dig his tone when he starts picking behind the bridge pickup so close to the bridge - Weird sorta twang that doesnt bode well with my tastes.... but thats me who am I nobody.....
Every which way? Listen more closely man! He's consistently playing with incredible rhythmic phrasing, has great contrast in his playing, is very varied with inside/outside both harmonically and rhythmically and he's consistently busy on developping ideas with tiny motifs. You might not like his style, but saying he can only be praised for his technical finesse is like saying John Coltrane can only be praised for his good looks.
@duszan2 So firstly you decided to reply to a year old comment to tell me that jazz is causing music to separate it self from emotion? Well that's obviously wrong. A flury of notes can be emotional. It is for me. And it's ok if you don't like jazz but it's not affecting music as a whole in a negative way at all.
@GuillermoSmyser problem is the way it goes next is just overfloating with notes that doesn't mean anything. It's further and further separation of music from emotional indgridients and turning it into play-doh. Just my personal oppinion.
SHITTT MUSICC !?!?!? OHHH Dammmm mann nooo don't say that. The jazz is soo good dude ... its your choice to don't love jazz but never say its Shit Music ... jazz is 24/24 in evolution.
@GuillermoSmyser i decided to give my personal oppinion. I don't care whether comment is one or 10 yers old. does it matter? THIS track for me is deprived of emotion, but that's obviously my oppinion. Flury of notes can be emotional, but it's not for me in this case. I like jazz, not every jazz obviously.
this guy is the future....i'm telling you man. the future!
I'm from the future. He has disappeared off the face of the Earth, nowhere to be found.

I reckon Holdsworth and Wayne Krantz were the future. So Baker is the present
This has everything going for it, IMO. Rhythm, taste, harmony, but especially the urgency. Totally hip. Whatever ti

I definitely hear a Frank Gambale influence, but he seems to flow more and be more creative. I'm sure we'll hear more great things from him.
