  • Let's Role Play Dragon Age Origins - Ep. 46: Preparing for the Deep
Welcome to my casual role play of Dragon Age Origins! In this series we will follow Brynn Cousland as she, with the help of her faithful companions, attempts to unite the land of Ferelden against the terrible Darkspawn Blight. As a casual role play, I will be talking to the audience most of the time, but during dialogue scenes I will role play as Brynn, and will also make gameplay decisions based on what Brynn would do.
In this episode: New love, shopping, fighting bad guys and getting cool new weapons.

My three favorite vendors are the Quartermaster at the Mage's Tower for Lyrium Dust, Valarian in the forest for Elf root, and the Bartender in Denerim for everything else. Somehow I've got the idea the bartender is cheaper than Bodahn in camp, but I'm probably wrong. I also buy all the Grandmaster Runes I can find and afford. Makes sense to keep Meric's sword in the Deep Roads, though I might think about giving Starfang to Oghren.
Laughed when you didn't want to take Duncan's sword from Alistair. I'm glad Alistair has it.

I always enjoy giving gifts to companions because its fun to give someone something and helps to get to know them better. Time in camp with them is a pleasure, talking. The higher the affinity, the more they talk. Sten is fun to talk with because he's so different. I like trying to see through his eyes and hearing about his world, especially after helping him find his sword. Companion relationships seem to hinge on gifts to at least get them talking.

Yeah, I've found Sten's sword before. Maybe I should give him a gift or two. I don't think he has any special gifts that prompt a cut scene though.

@@WastelandDovahkiin I don't recall a cut-scene either. It's amusing he likes paintings. Apparently, he associates a painter's skill with his own as a sword-master. The higher his affinity grows, so does his strength stat. I think this is what is meant by "skill acquired." As companions' affinity increases, so does one of their major stats.
Giving gifts seems Machiavellian if companions get higher stats for it, but I do enjoy hearing them talk and that they're getting stronger.

You might as well exhaust Zevran's dialogue, so you can unlock his class.
You don't have to use it yourself, of course, but it would be nice to have available for your other companions.
Merely from a story perspective, it would be ideal for Leliana, due to her backstory.
