It should especially be harshly dealt with in the E.C. and other rural communities because that is a big farming community that's how people earn a living. Chiefs were dealing with stock thieves better than police. But government interfeared.

The SAPS has not even used its resources, such as, tactical teams, but you want soldiers that do not even have the powers. It's high time the SAPS uses its tactical teams to the fullest and look at the results.
This whole thing will never make sense. The SANDF does not have a constabulary function. Their numbers on the streets won't serve any purpose when it comes to arrests, investigation and prevention. What the state needs to do is to capacitate those areas and add with more units that can be deployed there. There are members who must just be deployed there who are going to do the work other than quantity over function. All they are going to do is roam the streets. How are they going to address crime because we know that the problem is functional capacity not scare crow tactics. The need is deployment of more Police units such as CCU,TRT, CI and a lot of crime prevention members. I don't think Soldiers will serve any purpose other than just walking the streets. If crime happens what are they going to do?
This thing of saying that soldiers cannot police the streets, its a lie. Soldiers can act as police if needs be just that their policing would be very hard. Soldiers can arrest you . I mean there are different units within the military. Are you telling me that you cannot pick units which are suitable for internal security? For example there are soldiers called 21SA light infantry battalion. They can be used internally to restore order. There are military police which can also be used internally.
