I've been searching for months to get the authentic German blackforest cake recipe. Here in India where we live I have to be satisfied with cherry syrup. The cherries we get here is small and glazed.

Gateaux is French. I heard it was originally a tart: Schwartzwaldkirschtorte.
Not a tart, but the alcohol free version has that name. You're right, they should call it kuchen (cake).
@@SoniaJbrt no a "Torte" is not a cake but English dosen't have a name for "Torte" so that may be forgiven.

I did not know the black forest cake has it's origin in Germany!!!! I have tasted the Australian made version but as a small slice at a cafe with coffee. But I like the black forest cake that the man made at his Restaurant, looks much better on DW!!!!!

Also, watching Brits say, "gateaux", for literally no reason is hilarious. In Canada we just call it "cake" and we're bilingual. haha
0:43 It's disappointingly pale. I feel like here in Canada the cake is more chocolatey. This is almost the colour of red velvet cake.
