Replacing the Diverter Valve to Gain More Horsepower - Car Mods To Gain Horsepower
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 жов 2024
- In this video I will explain to you how a Diverter Valve works and whether you can gain more horsepower and torque by modding your car with an after market Diverter Valve. I will also discuss the signs and symptoms of having a bad DV and also the differences between a Diverter valve and a Blow off valve or a BOV.

Learned a few things about turbo system diverter valves and am glad to see your subscriber count continue to climb. You are living the dream...
upgrading or replacing your diverter valves is one of the BEST things you can do to a turbo engine! the turbos LOVE IT and it makes the car run more efficient and much better! plus, the boost is more variable across the line, instead of just 3000 and above!
Ive never learned so much in one video ever before. You explained everything so well. Thank you
Not one of your better videos. Very confusing. Lol luckily i already know how it all works. Just watching it because i like your videos.
I own a VW currently, and numerous other VW and Audi cars in the past. These were common issues. One mechanic tried to con me into replace the whole turbo charger. Luckily I have a mechanic friend saved me. That’s when I leaned about diverter valve.
lol sorry I laughed but honestly 9 of 10 mechanics are crooks with no guns
That sucks man.. why didn’t you let your friend check your car first? That’ll save you on labour charges from that swine bag crook mechanic..

Thanks. He lives pretty far away from me. He told me to have another mechanic check the diverted valve. Also he works as an engineer now, not a mechanic anymore. Being a mechanic is his hobby, his profession is a mechanical engineer.
love the vids man, im learning alot from you, keep it coming
Thumbs up to all your vids!
Trust me, the sockets on your socket tray organizer are upside down. I did the same mistake. Once you flip them over, they fit better
i hope you get 1.0M subscribes soon, your videos are great>
Great...your videos are getting better and better everyday...😎
Good video, keep up the great work
I hear a lot of Hyundai/Kia folks talking about disconnecting there DV but what they fail to realize is that boost builds slower when u turn ur DV into a BoV. Sounds awesome but shits on the low end power and also will cause a cel under certain conditions.
Nice explanation, thanks.
Hello by far you are one of the best as far as information on UA-cam. It is a relief from the people who go through so much crap and never really get to the point. I have ba P0299 code and have change the DV and used a GoFast DV adapter that worked for about 10 minutes. What is you take on this. Could it be a bad turbo? I have also replace PCV system and hoses and vacuum checked the system.
What is your background? This guy is very good! What’s your full time job?
thanks going to put a diverter valve on my NA car.
?
Lmao
Hey man big fan here :)
A little note, when you pull the wire off the valve sure sign it is bad is if oil is present. If it is an Audi, most have to be updated from a rubber to a spring loaded plastic valve. The rubber tears and let oil through as well as air.
Good video thanks
Can you make a video of reliable SUVs with air suspension under $5-10k. Also specify if they come in AWD, 2WD. Please and thanks.
Let’s talk about Audi and carbon fouling. That’s always fun
most important thing is to have them in the correct location and the cheap eBay amazon like the aluminium in the video you change the spring the tb will rip because to much boost and if its not pointing the correct direction the hi psi boost cant push up on the piston to release the psi into the intake
Great video
What I see demonstrated on this particular engine is way to many vacume hoses common in the 1970's 80's and part 90's, sensors should be directly connected to the engine and wired to the moving mechanical parts as the diverter in this case. Thinking about it I think it is questionable either way but at the least if you are going to do a vacume connection make it a 100 positive connection rather then what I see here on this rather expensive engine.
I bought a new aftermarket DV, which is metal and has no pistons (it's a diaphragm model)... I don't really care to add HP, I'm doing it mostly for torque and because I think my stock DV is cracked. The specifications say it is designed to give 15-23 PSI as is (and can be used with stock parts), while a blue spring can be added for 23-30 PSI (but I won't be adding that). However, in your video you mentioned that tuning of the ECU is required for over 13 PSI...? If so, could you please teach us how to reprogram the ECU for a stronger DV? :)
As Always love your videos .. I have 14 stock forester XT would you recommend doing this blow off valve for little throttle response..pls suggest
please add dynamic components to your videos , like driving to get extra elbow grease and flashing off used car dealer on your way
there certain satisfaction of seeing how your car responds to upgrades , how it shifts and pulls from corners or even getting it parked in the garage
Yah, finally the Audi!!
OK how about you do a video on a 2JZ GTE? I don't have a V6 but it's still a twin turbo. and I feel as if it doesn't have that much power, and yet another times it responds like a champ
Why can't the 2.7t engines not use blow off valves rather than diverter valves?
Waste Gates regulate boost, diverted valve adjust for boost surge after tittle plate closes
Once you've got your maintenance done do you plan on getting your car tuned?
DIY!!!!!!
I think it will make more power without that Y pipe. Each turbocharger should have their own intake in my opinion lol
Probably works great at stock power levels but it would be interesting to see it tested for restriction at higher boost levels.
The y pipe only becomes a limitation after about 500 chp. I have a stage 3 2.7 with bw k04s and the y pipe is not a limiter. It needs to be one pipe because of the single maf sensor. People go bigger to an rs4 stock y pipe or custom made.
@@soundtinker Thank you for this comment, since the turbos pull in so much air they probably benifit from the velocity rather than the sheer volume of air like an N/A car gains torque from.
With separating the y pipe you would nee 2 throttle bodies. This configuration balances the flow coming from both sides as on side may have more boast than the other. I'm sure their are performance set up that do what you are saying but the cars from the factories have to be reliable. And Audi has a tough time doing that. Good point though.
¿Can you get "overboost condition" codes when the DV fail?
are there just the spring kit for these diverter valve that I can purchase?
Rubber components on a 15+ year old turbo car sounds incredibly scary.
As I understand a turbo system, the wastegate controls boost, and the diverter valve/blow off valve releases boost. If the wastegate opens at 10 psi boost, and the diverter valve is set to open at 15 psi, you will not get more than 10 psi of boost with open throttle. Only when closing throttle fast, at gear change for example, after boost, pressure will rise in front of throttle plate, and diverter valve/blow off valve will release pressure at 15 psi, if it is set to that to save the system.
So really not necessary unless ur making a bunch of power?? Not recommended for reliability?
How you know so much buddy?
i got 2 710n diverter valves. do i install them in an orientation like the originals are? or do i install them where the pressure small hoses are at the top?
I got a 2003 Audi a 4 Quattro and my system bank 1 is lean does that mean I have to change this?
This was at your new house?
@2:34 its a mechanical unit
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO 🤪
DEEZ KNUTZ rick flair: wooooooooooooo
I have a Peugeot RCZ with Diverter valve that sometimes give me check engine lights and no boost would a Blow Off Valve give more power and work better??
Can a bad diverter valve or bypass valve make a car (saab) go to limp mode
You're like Jesus. Thank you Mr RnW
i have noticed that this valves tend to leak at idle! Is this normal?
Audi are endless money pits
Scotty?
Modern cars all are, but particularly German ones.
😂🤣 shut up Honda boy
@@rickyhernandez6195 I'm not a Honda only guy, but as a mechanic vw are single handedly keeping me in work. Suppose I should be grateful...
@@TrueBlueEG8 yup you should I can say hondas aren't reliable since I had a civic that was shiit and it had 150k miles and had issues
I own a mk5 gti and i just need to know what the sensor is called that goes into the diverter valve can anyone help?
Can it cause the engine to shut down??
can you please do me a favor i buy a car 2002 volvo 5 cilinders turvo can you please make a video about this car thank you RnW god bless you
Wanna ask your an advice to me
I've Hyundai accent 2002 I change half car but it's still not going well
Maybe you know something to help me,it fills heavy when I drive
= blow off valve or bypass valve to be more accurate
There is a difference between them
Is that he car you put the 2.8l heads from the na version on?
What is the colour springs for?
What tuner do you use or company?
You want more boost?
Remove fan clutch, replace it for high quality electric fans
Are you an an engine engineer?
420K hype
Talk to Scotty about Audis.
Talk to Scotty about anything that isn't a celica lol
Great video. Love when R & W does Audi videos! Sad no Trumptard jokes though. Lol.
Sounds very similar to a blow off valve 🤔
Watcher Eyesopen you either didn’t watch the video or didn’t listen did you
Diverter? Blow off valve? How many names this "unnecessary to replace valve in normal circumstances" have?
Valves are made to release pressure from induction once the throttle is close, so the pressure doesn't go back to the turbocharger or in some cases supercharger.
The oem design does that, but with quiet operation in mind, as such the valve/piston is made out of a material which doesn't seal 100% at every pressure, as such they leak…
Installing a full metal BOV doesn't add any horsepower unless horsepower was lost thru pressure leaks. This is the cheapest big mod which should be done at last, not beginning, of a tune/mod.
HPFP then the down pipe and cat back exhaust should go first, a tune tool like COBB's AP would come handy as the first mod but knowing what other mods are going to be made.
Is there an email I can contact you at?
Yes, I know you must be busy but your knowledge is precious.
what happens when you reverse the pipes in the dv? i see my car with both orientations? thanks.
Abelardo Fernandez Miranda Hi! I've been wondering the same thing but now that I've thought about it, the orientation in which way the valves "input/output" are connected should not matter as the vacuum is what opens the valve, so in extreme cases I would probably put the valves/valve so that the "bottom" of the piston is towards the intake hose so the bottom as output. Then again most people don't have that much pressure going through their system that the orientation should matter. I have tested both ways on my car and I seem to find little to no change in boost, acceleration or even sound. I am running a moderate boost single turbo system, around general stage 2 numbers.
Moral of the video, when you make power on a turbo Audi, get blowoff valves. Cool noises and zero chance of destroying your throttle body
Throttle body will be closed when building boost eh? Lol try open
If it’s closed no boost will get into the engine

Basically a blow off valve
How can anybody talk about a new part, especially a high performance part without showing how it sounds.....total waste of my time!
Lol Want to know how you performance tune Audi/VW? You don't.
One step at a time, Grasshopper.
I have tuned my own stage 3 2.7 amd all I used was the nefmoto forum and the s4wiki website. S4wiki is a great start but be warned that tuning the bosch motronic is a very entangled process.
True, they make cars that look great and make run grateful from the showroom but look at the Dynamics of their systems and they are destined to fail. I have worked on many Audi and love the cars but I'm at the point of ripping everything out and putting a carberated small block Ford with MSD ignition, just love the quatro.
Uhhh not sure if you explained this correctly.
In fact in great detail, this for Audi who makes crap that is detined to fail. Their diverter valves are designed to fail as low as 5000 miles on brand new cars.
