it's amazing to see that you didn't just develop as a developer, but as a creator too. The ideas behind games towards the end are great!
This is so kind. Thank you :)
Man, this gave me the feels. Awesome work, you have a lot to be proud of.
Thanks a lot ewicn! your comment gives me courage to keep on going :)
This is late, but I need to comment on this. Some of the games in here are absolutely incredible. The lighting in the games later in the video is simply outstanding, and I can’t wait to see what you make. I have tried game development before, but had given up because it was too hard for me, but videos like this just make me want to download unity again. Great Video
Thank you for your kind words. They mean the world to me.. I am taking the courage to reveal my latest project pretty soon ^ ^ Best of luck to you! Wish you get motivated to do whatever you love ;)
I am learning unity for past 5 months... i have learned ton of stuff seing something like this motivates me to turn on unity and continue working on my project . AMAZING PROGRESS SIR !
Thank you kind sir!!! I wish you the best of luck! keep on going :D
The rpg game with stamina looks awesome.
Dude, what a fantastic thing! If it were not my bad computer I would lose unity right now!
That game with the fire and blue glowing trees is beautiful.
Your work looks realy awesome. You have very nice designing-art style, whitch can make nice feelings when you play. This lights are realy nice. Good work 💪
Thank you kind sir! ;)
This is really motivating -- thanks for sharing!
Thank you! ^^
amazing !
the game in the end look great i like it ! :)
Aye! That's bramble blast. I instantly recognised it and thought of my childhood. Also nice job
Beautiful voxel art and lighting in some of the later projects, also I dunno why but I love the blue cube run animation around 1:10, great work I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors
Thank you! Best of luck to you too!! :D
This is a really good video!
This is amazing! I just started taking an online course at Udemy for 3D Game Design with Unity.. This definitely gives me hope that I can do it! Great video, and games!
hahaha udemy, you can't be serious. XD bit of a meme within the Unity community becuase of their ads. Good luck tho!
Good luck Jacob!! of course you can make it! Just put time into it and you will level up ^^ cheers!!
Before I noticed that objects in last game are pretty "simple" I was like "Holy fuck this lights makes the game look so awesome". You have really good hand when it comes to lighting which makes awesome atmosphere. Also the progress you made is really impressive! Hopy you won't stop what ya doing, best of luck!
Thank you a lot! :D Exactly, i am not that good at making models so i am trying to cover them up with the lighting. 2 years later than this video i am still trying. I am pretty excited about my latest project, i am hoping that this time i will be able to finish and release my first commercial game :D But that's wishful thinking for now, i am still very early in development. I will keep on working hard ^^ again, thanks a lot for the encouragement,it's really helpful! Wish you best of luck too ;)
You made some of the beautiful games.
The music was a bit hard on my ears but the games you made are simply breathtaking my Friend! You are a real inspiration! Thank you!
That's very kind of you! It gives me courage to keep on going :D Thank you!
Great stuff bro!
Thanks ^^
You should make a game using elements from each of your creations. Loved this video and gave me motivation to work hard in Unity. Thank you!
Thank you for your kind words! Wish you the best of luck!
amazing you not only learned to code, but also animate and design the graphics! Super impressive skillset!
Thank you kind sir! and there are so many more to learn.. pff, i don't know if i will make it in my lifetime... hehe ^^ Wish you the best of luck in whatever you are doing! :D
This is awesome and inspiring
Thanks a lot Toastie! Good luck with whatever you do! :D
Wow! This is incredible, you will be really successful in life
This is the most beautiful thing i could hear right now ^^ Even i don't have the courage to believe that and i feel like no one around me even believes that.. Really really thank you. I hope u are right! You don't know how much this means to me :D Wish you everything you want! Thank you again!
Please don’t give up, you have a huge talent. All these games are fantastic. I hope I can create games like you one day. Seriously great job my man
Bro, this is awesome!
Thanks a lot :D
Wow! Very good! I make games with Unity too but for fun...I may take it more serius when I will finished school
I just started with unity and it looks really complicated, but im sure ill get the hang of it. Very impressive projects u got there. 1:23 and 1:48 are my favourites :D
Thanks! Of course you'll get the hang of it ^^ everything is a matter of practice! so never give up and best of luck! :D
Those are some seriously impressive stuff you made there! You motivated me to make more stuff in Godot Engine.
also Stickerbrush Symphony :D
Yosh!!! DKC2 music all the way!! that's great! of course keep making more stuff! good luck!
Ambient Melancholy
Where did you learn all your skills? Both your 2D and 3D projects look amazing!
Btw you definitely need to check out my sacred Yam Clicker video.
hahaha! i checked it out! it looks dope! i want the collectors edition now :O haha! i got trolled ^^
Well all the projects art since 1:19 are from the asset store. After that those are mine. Well i didn't put so much time into my art! it was a little bit hasty so i can get into the programming stuff which i enjoyed the most, I didn't watch any tutorials or anything, i was just doing it and it got a little bit better over time. Also when the art is not that good,i am trying to use it clever (the camera angle, the light density, light sources etc.) Just practice ^^ (also the programs i used for 3d is MagicaVoxel and for 2d is PyxelEdit and Aseprite)
Ambient Melancholy
Yeah you definitely need to preorder it's season pass. It includes 30+ hours story and a whole new world map!
Some of the lighting in your projects are absolutely beautiful! Also, I understand that feeling where you don't want to spend too much time on art. I do that too planning to improve it later, but I usually end up using the placeholder forever xD
impressive dude
amazing!
You basically made Minecraft Dunegons at 1:33. Awesome creations dude!
hahaha! thank you very much!!! ^^
Dude ur from which universe?...I never imagined such games.... amazing work..how did u start doing it,I'm gonna install unity right now...
Amazing
Wow, this is impressive
Thank you
you are great .. good job
Did you animate inside unity. If you did how did you import the different boy parts from magicavoxel and get them placed in the right place?
Loved this vid btw
Hey! Thanks :D Yes i did. I exported every part i wanted to animate from magicavoxel. For example, each hand, leg, upper body, head etc, i created a gameObject for every part under a common gameObject holder, put them in the right place and then i animated them with the Unity animator.
1:28 It's great and the 3:33 Is amazing dude
I realy would like to play this (or these) game(s).
Awesome work man!
@@hecktorx5673 Me too
Love this video!!! What programm did u use for modeling voxel game with light materials? I tried to use magicavoxel but it's bad for games.
Hi! thanks!! :D i used magicaVoxel for all of them, haha ^^ the shadows are a little bit off but otherwise it's working fine for me,i didn't have any other problems ^^
Damn this is so inspiring. The lightning and everything.. Great job dude. Could you recommend a place to learn unity on? UA-cam doesnt seem that helpful noone seems to explain that much.
Thanks a lot! I watched tons of videos to learn Unity, both on UA-cam and the Unity site,at the very beginning it's helpful but after that the best thing i could suggest is to start making games. I don't know any other source that could provide a push other than that. Personally for me some lessons online and tutorials didn't help so much. Knowing what you can do,or what seems that is easy to be made, and start doing it. Googling everything that you can't do and see if there is an answer online or a youtube video. After that if you are out of ideas you can always play games and take notes if any creative ideas come from it ^^ good luck in everything you do! :D
By the way, where did you create voxel models and animate them? I tried magicavoxel but I cant animate there.
I did all of them with MagicaVoxel and i animate them in Unity. Just export every part of the body separately and use the Unity animator to animate them ;)
1:05 this ones certainly the best. Last one too.
3:23 How do you make pixel art in 3d and glowing, can you tell me?
Nice work btw, why dont you sell the game or something or make a really good game with your friends and publish it in steam?
Edit: I mean lego environtment or blocky, how do you made that?
Hello there! Thanks a lot! Those projects where never completed and they are not in a stage that i would be happy to release them. Hopefully the game i am working right now will see the light of day. As for your question. That's voxel art, which means that they are 3d models that can be affected by light or have emissive materials. I use a great program called MagicaVoxel to make them, you should check it out :D
Niceee :D
1:35 1:58-2:08 3:34 4:08 are my favorites but 4:08 is my absolute favorite
as a musician im fantasizing what type of faint, melancholic, bgm fit for those but i cannot think of any!
and as a gamer I would add some cool fighting animations. a lot of assassin mobility like moves so you can zigzag across the map killing enemies almost like teleporting to and from. and definitely add a jump animations.
i can go into more details if you want :)
Hi!!! Of course you can go on and thanks a lot for taking the time to express your ideas ^^ I am not going back on those projects anymore, i am currently working on another one that i hope to finish. But still :D if you would like to write anything more i would be glad to hear your ideas. Peace!
It's awesome how you use the cube world character in the minute 1:30 haha
good catch!!! this was one of the first games that i used voxel art and i straight up ripped the cube world character! :D i got huge inspiration from that game!!! hehe!
@@AmbientMelancholyGames haha me too, now I'm trying to create a rpg action would be my first game in unity?) I do not know haha
@@orteggamattii8682 One day i would love to also make my vision of an open world action rpg like cubeworld! but i will stay away from it at the moment! Because even smaller projects take so much time that i'll never finish a game to be released ^^ Do whatever u love! but be careful of big projects! after many months i regret so much starting them! hehe! But maybe that's just me so follow your insticts! Best of luck
Nice
4:13 I was under the impression moving point lights can't cast shadows? Color me impressed.
You can enable cast shadows for a moving point light ^^
Gj bro.
Did you use unity Haha looks awesome don’t loose motivation
Wow.
Cool! Feedback? I think I should be asking you for advice! Have you enjoyed these last 3 years?
Thanks! I really did! after the boring first steps of watching tutorials, reading books, documentation etc. When things start to get rolling,it's quite something! Still there are stressful times and a big fight to motivate your self, but if you are enjoying making games! it's totally worth it! Well I haven't even released a game so I don't feel like I can give suggestions to other people ^^ but if you are new I would suggest you to take small steps, create games within your limits, and every time push the limits of the unknown a little bit at a time! So u can get better and also stay motivated through the lifetime of a project. Wish you all the luck! if you need anything else feel free to ask me!
Ambient Melancholy How long did it take you to become competent in 3d animation?
Well the animation! i am pretty sure i am not doing animation the right way. It just works for me. I export every part of the body independently and then i animate them with the Unity animator. I am just playing with them until they feel right. I feel like i am cheating this way because right from the first months i could animate what i had in mind,it just took time! so i am not sure if i am competent in 3d animation, i just found a way of doing things so they don't look bad! Also thanks for your comment ;)
I absolutely love your lighting effects and the gameplay in the top down voxel game! Do you think you could release it at some point?
Uncle Acid,if you wanna make music for it maybe i could ^^ haha
Hello, how you began to use unity? I want to follow your steps. I love your project!!
Hi :D Thanks a lot!!! Making games was always a dream of mine, since i grew up playing tons of games. But i always stayed away from it thinking it was hard to achieve especially without a college degree. But one day i thought fuck it,i don't have anything to loose by trying. So i knew about Unity and decided to install and go for it. By Watching tutorials online and finding sources like books and online articles. It was boring but if you push a little bit through it and make even a simple game even for just your friends, you start to get incredible satisfaction. So i keep making games, always near my skill level, i stopped trying to do complex things, i did simple thinks with a little bit of challenge at a time. There are many times when you feel hopeless and frustrated, but taking your time and pushing through it is what keeps you getting better and hopefully some day make something that your are proud of and release it. Just makes tons of simple games. Start small and keep on going! Don't start with huge projects coz you can get frustrated so easily and give up. Think of it like leveling up :D Every moment you spend studying or making something is just a little bit more xp! Most people give up before they even start, pass that barrier and discover if making games gives you satisfaction inside, if you get a little bit of joy from it,everything is in your hands. Keep on farming :D
How do you get the ideas my only problem with games that i dont know what the game should be about
how did you start learning c# if you used c# and at what age, amazing work !
Hey thanks! ;) I just started learning c# by using unity tutorials. I read a book called "Leaning C# programming with Unity3D" by Alex Okita. Also the Unity documentation. But most important than all by just doing small games and googling stuff. I started pretty late,at 23. Until then no experience with programming at all. But i always loved math, and i can see the same logic applying to those fields. So it's quite enjoyable and easy to grasp if u like this type of problem solving.
Ur my inspiration
That's too kind. I am still struggling to release a game so i don't feel like i deserve those words :D But if this video gives you any inspiration that's great, you will do fine ;) good luck!
@@AmbientMelancholyGames I am just a fresher I cnt even make a level just like u do launching is heavens for me I am new so I don't want to work in commercial and also 3d cartoons series I don't like tht but my parents doesn't understand tht thts why I am having. hard time being motivated they always tell me about money I know tht it's important but I can't do anymore I am about to like I am real about to quit whta I love if this goes on I don't know what to do really
@@bhavinb.artstation Until 23 i didn't have any experience with programming or anything. I left college after only 6 months coz i didn't like it. I was living and i am still living with my parents, inside my room playing games, feeling lost and trying to understand what should i do with my life. At 23 i decided to start learning Unity, until then i was staying away from making games because everyone told me it's hard to learn programming etc, even though that was my dream since i was a kid. I lost so many years,i started really late, and since then even if i feel fulfillment making it i am struggling everyday with the motivation. Because i am getting older and it feels like i am stuck in this and time passes by. From the inside it's really hard to notice the progress, everything feels so static and discouraging. Learning something and getting better at it takes time.. There are days that i feel like the most worthless shit on the planet. But! giving up? nope, never considered that option. If you believe in it and that's your dream, giving up is not an option. You are still young and i know how chaotic this period of life feels. But trust me! Answers will come to you as time passes by, discover your self, try to get better at things you love. Enjoy your life. As time passes by you will discover what you hate and what you really want to do. Imagine at that point,if you already know how to make games, even a little bit. You are already far ahead from where i started ;) So really don't stress too much and don't worry. Most of our problems are internal and coming from our stupid brain. Don't give up,keep on learning ^^ and when you find for sure what you want to do,chase it no matter whats parents or others say ;) Best of luck
I love making games took like u 😍 I really do but in India they don't pay u well enough I really want to go out of India to get some better experience but I don't know if tht is possible I am not tht rich and I cnt afford to pay my rent even so I am 21 I just got diplomated two months ago I didn't go to college but I live with my parents every time they just brought the same topic how will u earn and I cnt say anything because I'm not sure if myself but this is what I love to do I don't know if it will pay me or not but I am sure tht it will keep my happy forever thank u sir for the advice
I love most of your ideas and I'm impressed with art and lighting! Are you planning to release at least one of your games? Are you still working on any game in Unity?
I am a Unity game developer as well, if you are interested check out my game trailers on my channel and maybe you would like to create some quick project together someday :D
Hi! happy new year! ^^ i am not planning to release any of them! but i am currently working on another project that i am hoping it will be the first gave i'll ever release! I will check your channel right now!! Let's do our best to achieve our dreams, and if our paths meet,it will be awesome! keep on going! best of luck :D
Hey, how did you make the ground glow after the player moves over it like at 3:30? I've been looking for tutorials that achieve the same effect but i haven't found anything
Hey! At the start of the level i generate those square Game objects to cover all the terrain. I give them a different height so they do not look flat. Each of those game objects have a script on them that just detects the player with OnTriggerEnter, so you can make them glow when the player is on them by just changing the material on them like this " ground.material = groundOn;" (groundOn is a public Material), and OnTriggerExit when the players exits i just change the material again. If i made it too complicated ask me again for clarification! Also i don't know if that's a proper and optimized way to do it,that's just how i did it back then ^^
@@AmbientMelancholyGames uhh yeah do you think you could clarify? If you're busy or something it's fine but I'm pretty new to unity and coding :) also thanks for the fast response lol
@@Tom-ll5qw No worries. This time my response is gonna be faster. haha ^^ So, each block on the ground! has a BoxCollider with a Trigger enabled on it ,this box collider is right above it's surface,so it can detect if the player walks on it. Also it has a mesh renderer and this simple script right here, just took a quick screenshot ( i.imgur.com/ikWKZEo.png ) . Maybe there is a better way to do it but that's how it worked for me. Do you understand the script? ask me whatever else troubles you :D
@@AmbientMelancholyGames oh yeah I get it now :) I really appreciate the help and btw it was a really inspiring vid, I've kinda hit a wall in terms of and design e.g. I can't really stick to a project and see it through rn but thanks to you / this vid I'm already feeling better so thanks a lot for that :)
@@Tom-ll5qw This is really honoring! Thanks ^^ I've hit this wall and i am still hitting this wall many times. Remember to give your self a break and play some new games every now and then, for me it always works since i get inspiration and ideas! As a matter of artistic expression, don't worry too much about it. Try to find easy solutions with easy to start styles, like pixel art, voxel art, easy vector art. Or just find things from free sources online. Remember that every day by just spending time on it you become better ^^ It's like training!! Let's keep on going coz we can't really do anything other that :D Best of luck on everything ^^
What is the name of last game? Can we play it somewhere? Thats looks amazing!
Hey! Thanks a lot! It's called Etherael! sadly i haven't released it anywhere and it's an old one. The thing is coz that was a personal project with no purpose of release, even if the art and everything is by me,i used music i found online that i don't have the copyrights of ^^ Only if i go back and change the music i could upload it somewhere ^^ sorry for that :(
Awesome work! Did you make any money with that or its just a hobby?
Thanks! No i didn't make any money of them,i just make them to get better hoping that one day a game will be good enough to be released ^^
@@AmbientMelancholyGames These game are pretty good and I think you can make some money if you monetize them with ads.
Keep it up! I really like your games style!
@@ivaylailieva7891 This is very encouraging :D thanks a lot! Well i will stay focused on the one i am currently working right now and i will release it ^^
@@AmbientMelancholyGames Yeah! I really want to see your game! I'm sure it is going to be great!
Some games remind me of Hyper light drifter
I have my own Unity progress video if you guys want to check it out!
@Ambient Melancholy Where did you get that cube model with the arms and legs @ 1:05?
hey! i got it from the Unity asset store. It's called "Complete Physics Platformer Kit". It was great! But i stopped using anything from the asset store after that.. It felt like cheating :P hehe
Thanks!
Awesome work BTW! Use of lighting is exceptional!
Thanks a lot!!! :D good luck in everything you are doing!!
What no donkey kong game?! Lol jk nice job!
How did you make your character rotate when walking 1:28
when a key is pressed or held, the character will rotate a number of degrees. you can increase the rate of turning by increasing the degree when key held or pressed. u can find 2d examples on scratch
have you published any games yet?
Hi there! this year I released some games on itchio and joined 3 games jams. So just small projects atm. Still I don't have a commercial release. It's taken me a long time but I finally feel confident in the quality of my games and I am working hard atm for that "big" release. You can have a look here for some of those games. Thank you for passing by. ^^ ambientmelancholy.itch.io/
I wish i wasnt lazy and learned c# xd
can someone plz tell me how to program a cube to move right left and forward plzz
make sure you are on your move tool and not hand tool. I made same mistake as beginner
I suggest you to watch a tutorial on UA-cam. Just search for "Making a Simple Game in Unity (Part 1) - Unity C# Tutorial". It's an awesome tutorial from which i was inspired to make the game at 0:35, if that's what you are asking for, go for it ;)
What Happened to the "bits of my latest project" video?
hi!! :D thanks for noticing. I made it private because i am planning to make a new video about the project, and since the game has changed since then, it doesn't represent how it looks now ( not that it changed a lot visually since then), but especially i didn't like the sound effects i had and i was afraid that people might get a wrong first impression about it ^^
Also in case you want to have a look at the game, here is a video of it now, quality is not that good so i have to record it again before making it public, but for you here you go :D ( ua-cam.com/video/y2jOzrvj3E0/v-deo.html )
@@AmbientMelancholyGames Thanks!
how much money did you earn from these games?
Zero! i haven't released any of them...
