I looked online for a while, and even reading the Wikipedia summary, it's not quite clear to me who the 7th bullet is meant for. It's either himself or the girl he was marrying, right? Percy De Rolo played by Taliesin Jaffe in Critical Role Campaign 1 had a cool take on this story. Without the contextual background, simply put one of the characters, Percy De Rolo, had a cursed pistol (created through the influence of a demon, Orthax) that had 5 names on its barrel, with the 6th left blank. This was effectively a revenge contract, but Orthax implied that there was in fact a 6th name that would appear, implying that it wasn't JUST a revenge contract (each of the 5 people on the list were people Percy was potentially planning to kill anyway as revenge for backstory events). For a long time, it was assumed that the 6th name would be Percy himself, but towards the end of the campaign the 6th name shows up and is revealed to be Cassandra, Percy's younger sister, implying that it was the start of a new contract it was a never ending cycle of murder.
Fun addition to 'Freikugel': SMT 5 still uses Freikugel's name. In fact, something interesting to note about it... While Riot Gun, the original ability, uses Gun Damage... Freikugel deals Almighty, making it an objectively better version of Riot Gun.

Wow, this video needs more views. This is something that can still be debunked, but might as well throw in that it's theorized that SMT V is a follow up story to Nocturne in which the Lucifer you see in the trailer is the exact same from Nocturne and the God being dead plot is the result of the war Demi-fiend lead.
I would love that but I think the only problem with that theory is that we kinda destroyed the world and the cycle of rebirth in TDE but the writers could easily come up with a reason for that. There was also that one weird video where in a campaign promoting SMT V (the one where the samurai dude guesses demons) they play Nocturne for no reason. They even had a bit where the samurai guy was confused. It could've just been them trying to promote Nocturne remastered but it was still kinda random and weird. Wonder if this has anything to do with that.
Thanks for this video learned a lot that I didn't know. For example SMT 3 lyrics being sung by a computer or how SMT IF was connected to Persona through Tamaki. Also seeing the unused Mickey and Donald sprites was surprising I would have loved to see them in game, but I understand why that couldn't happen. The Mouse is just too powerful.
Awesome list. One Easter egg you could of added; in kyuuyaku megami tensei (mt1/2 sfc remakes) if you spin around 31 turns outside a treasure chest room then enter it, Jack frost Jr. will appear and give you xp and macca. You can find his mama and papa too
Interestingly there's some hints that he's not actually the top dog, that he has a boss of sorts and exists more as a high level officer or managerial role. That still doesn't mean he can't demand to be called the sole deity by us mere mortals I guess.

@@depshallburn If you talk about Judeo-Christian theology, detail people miss is that God the Father is not the actual God. Trinity are avatars of the God... or well of one of Eight Avatars of God known as Ophanim (Throne) according to Kabbala (called Seraphim in Christianity). Specifically they are Metatron (King of Angels/Voice of God/God the Father), Raziel (God the Son/Christ/Morningstar) and Sandelphon (King of Sheol/Abaddon/Holly Spirit).
@@TheRezro*Judeo-"Christian"* But, if we're talking of original Christianity, or "early Christianity"- then God, The Father is the one true God and YHWH/YHVH is the false god imposter, "the Devil". This is most accurate to the Canon Gospels (New Testament) and the Lost Gospels (Nag Hammadi Texts), especially before the Torah (Old Testament) was deliberately and retroactively linked to the New Testament as two parts to the same whole, rather than the simple study resource the Torah was supposed to be. All leading to the bizarre conflictons between narratives of the two parts of the modern Bible. Tl;dr SMT draws from this with the main antagonist of the series being this Demiurge entity in the form of the Hebrew god, YHWH/Yaldabaoth/Yahweh.

The fiend theme being a remix of something found in IF is really cool, because IF basically had a blueprint for the Demifiend in it's seccondary campaign, where you and your secondary party member go somewhere completely diferent to the other two options. Likewise, your seccond party member becomes a half-demon, who slowly turns more demonic the firther along you progress, iirc

Lol, I’m glad Trinity Soul is not canon. That’s affirmed by the P3 cast still being able to use their Personas well into adulthood and Zenkichi just awakening to his in his 30-40s in P5 Strikers. It just seems dumb that you do all this growing in high school, but you get out of school and that’s enough for your strength of heart to dissolve? Come on, man xD
Actually, with that bit you mention about Jun, Persona 3 Portable have also finally done it, but it was kinda forced, yet for some reason, still labeled as a friendship route, but it's very obvious when you see it, which is Aigis in the female route in Portable. You can tell that she still has romantic feelings for the protagonist, even with the gender change, this is evident in the fact that even in the female route, the Social Link barely even changed from how it was in the male route. Also, the bit about the rescuing people trapped in Tartarus in P3P, that is actually one of my favorite additions added to Portable since it gives you more of a reason to go into Tartarus more and it helps me plan out my Tartarus trips, since whenever I play it, one of the big goals I set up for the playthrough is to rescue every single person. Plus, I like to think of the bit about Maiko being trapped in Tartarus as a callback to one part in the story of Persona 4, much like the other P4 callbacks P3P makes. Also, to correct you on the Hanchiko part, Koromaru is actually fully aware that his master had died as it was shown in his Social Link in the female route in Portable where despite the owner's death, he's still willing to do anything for his master, even protecting the shrine from anything that will harm it, one woman mentions that his owner had died after being hit by a car while he was taking Koromaru for a walk, but in one conversation that Akihiko has with Shinjiro, he brings up that Koromaru's master was actually killed by the shadows. This made me think that Koromaru's master was actually killed by the shadows, but people reported it as him being hit by a car, as this sorta false reporting thing is a thing in Persona 3 as this happened with Ken's mother where it's reported that she died in an accident, but was actually killed by Shinjiro's Persona, also Mitsuru's father too where they claim he died from illness, but was actually shot by Ikutski. I would not be suprised if it's the same thing with Koromaru's master.

The last one is my fav. Some crazy guys managed to make 3D first person dungeons in the past editions of the RPGMaker engines but they weren't designed for 3D graphics in mind so it was extremely hard to do it, even with the use of RGSS Scripts, special plug&play codes that can be copypasted into your project to customize and expand what the engine can do. So a MegaTen game built into the RPGM-VX engine is awesome. The most recent versions tho, RPGMaker MV and MZ are coded in Javascript, which allows more advanced customization with javascript Plugins, which are the MV/Z equivalent of Scripts. And guess what? Someone made a 3D plugin! For both MV and MZ! This means that Shin Megami Tensei fangames, clones and fan-remakes are much easier to build now!
Extremely minor gameplay spoilers for smt v: demons that are of the fiend race can learn a Magatsuhi skill called Freikugel, which is probably an homage to the Demi-fiend.
Apparently the real line from Nocturne's Forced Battle (which was incorrectly translated to Fierce Battle) isn't supposed to be One More God Rejected as most of the lyrics of the song are taken from the Bible, specifically Revelations and it's supposed to be "War broke out in Heaven" in reference to Lucifer and the Fallen Angels rebelling aganist God and being cast from Heaven. The 4th Snake recently just made a video about it. ua-cam.com/video/blpLwpqKlzw/v-deo.html
Just so you know, people are trying to translate the tabletop books, and I’m kind of the gopher here in Japan who is occasionally asked to try and find books for the two translators I know. Be aware, the “novels” are replays of campaigns that groups ran; replays are basically a popular way of retelling finished campaigns as proper novels and such in Japan. A great example of popular a replay can become is Record of Lodoss War, which was based on a replay of the writers’ d&d campaign.
Ah yes, the original Persona translation. Honestly, looking back at it is hilarious, and I can only imagine what the series would be if translations continued down that path
I would put demons leveling up to "Majin Tensei II: Spiral Nemesis" that predates "Giten..." with about two years. Mind you it's still called "Rank" there but trust me it works almost exactly like leveling.
Nah, been playing Dx2 since day 2 (missed the launch LOL) and still playing it daily. Storywise the game is meh, but gameplay is very true to Press Turn system (though magic CAN NOT miss at all), but going further with extended pierce and anti-pierce mechanics. That SMT level of demon customization is still here compared to most mobile version of many popular games cutting it to 3-4 skills and that makes gameplay much more interesting.
1:50 You're kidding, right? 10 years ago I had pretty much the same idea for a book (Too bad I'm bad at telling stories). Sometimes it's insane which specific thoughts somebody else already thought. So the protagonist which created them sets out to destroy them.
also a quick note: Dx2 once also have a collab with Devil May Cry so Dante has appeared in two Megaten games now (three if you count Nocturne remaster)

Fun addition to 'Freikugel':
SMT 5 still uses Freikugel's name. In fact, something interesting to note about it... While Riot Gun, the original ability, uses Gun Damage... Freikugel deals Almighty, making it an objectively better version of Riot Gun.
I think the historical sensitivity of Raidou is that he wears a Japanese captain outfit and is based from the 1930s
Which is awesome.

Never stumbled across a video this niche with such high quality editing. Keep it up my man
Damn this was sick. I learned a lot about megaten
Sounds interesting...
Might be really cool if that's the reason they remastered Nocturne around the same time as 5.
@@alanlight2715 No, the cycle of creation has ended for that one universe as the game confirmed that there is a multiverse
this seems to have been debunked, as demi fiend is dlc, it most likely isnt linked to the main story
Huh and here i thought smt iv apoc anarchy ending was the reason things are as they are in smt v..
If he was in this series, he'd be an end boss at this rate.
Yes... But of which route?
Awesome list. One Easter egg you could of added; in kyuuyaku megami tensei (mt1/2 sfc remakes) if you spin around 31 turns outside a treasure chest room then enter it, Jack frost Jr. will appear and give you xp and macca. You can find his mama and papa too
Fun fact: the name YHVH is a old Hebrew way of spelling Yahweh, the name of God in Judea-Christian mythology.
Interestingly there's some hints that he's not actually the top dog, that he has a boss of sorts and exists more as a high level officer or managerial role.
That still doesn't mean he can't demand to be called the sole deity by us mere mortals I guess.
@@Reddotzebra which actually stands for beyond the games' universe. But I ain't even gonna get to all that.
@@Reddotzebra JHVH is in fact an AI designed to size control over system. In first SMT we in fact can encounter Security AI what has similar design to big yellow head. We also encounter two similar systems in forms of Kagutsuchi from SMT III and Brahman from Digital Devil Saga. Later in SMT IVA we learn about Axium who is implied to be more natural form of shared consciousness. My guess is that it may be in fact related to Aion from Soul Hackers II. BTW: with SMT V and Soul Hacker II i think we have definitive confirmation that series in fact take place in the future, with today being a construct (excluding Soul Hacker and SMT prologue).
@@TheRezro*Judeo-"Christian"*
But, if we're talking of original Christianity, or "early Christianity"- then God, The Father is the one true God and YHWH/YHVH is the false god imposter, "the Devil".
Nocturne HD is how I got into SMT. And yes, I am very much looking forward to SMT V!
They should've released 4 on switch, wish persona 4 and 5 were on switch.
Ok?
@@MacenW Congratulations, you're a prophet
I love how Nocturnes lyrics are sung by the first voice in the list on the text to speech program, like whoever was choosing the samples just say the first one and was like “perfect”
I knew a good amount of these but there were definitely some that threw me for a loop. Great video, deserves way more views!
Amazing video, I’ve been playing SMT for around 11 years and never knew about most of these. Thank you for informing me! I’ll definitely be checking out your videos from now on

2 years later and someone finally made a megaten iceberg video. Big ups to you man. This was 46 mins well spent!
I remember a few years back about the cancelled Strange Journey Manga, Deathtament
Otherwise called Deep Strange Journey: Another Report
The fiend theme being a remix of something found in IF is really cool, because IF basically had a blueprint for the Demifiend in it's seccondary campaign, where you and your secondary party member go somewhere completely diferent to the other two options. Likewise, your seccond party member becomes a half-demon, who slowly turns more demonic the firther along you progress, iirc
Hifumi was not planned to be a phantom thief. Her design was for a phantom thief then later they changed it to be a normal person.
I like to imagine the durarara characters in devil survivor are canon and that by extension, baccano exists in that smt multiverse.
hifumi wasn't planned to be a phantom thief, there was supposed to be another strategist like Makoto, but everything about her was transferred to Makoto and they used the design of that scrapped character for hifumi when making confidants
Until now I didn’t know what this iceberg thing meant but I like this video. Time to listen to many others!
Durara crossover with Devil survivor is the BEST THING I got from this video. I LOVE Durara and I did not know it had a crossover with SMT
The SMT TTRPG novels are really cool historically. They were campaign logs from people who played it at the time, there's a lot of these published for different games in the same age. You could say it's like how we watch twitch stream campaigns nowadays
I did not need to know about the P4 parody at 2am in my sleep deprived state, yet here we are. Nice work Yuri.
The Albert text to speech got me.
I forget the details but I remember reading the reason Raidou was cut from the Chinese and Korean versions was cuz his uniform was very popular at the time that the Raidou games take place, and during those times Japan was at war with China or Korea. take it with a grain of salt I have a terrible memory.
You are right, I think
Now this...THIS is quality content, many luster candies to you
Really well done dude!

My idea included scanning figures of superheroes, which would then come to life,
but overall they were detrimental to the world and the people (Similar to Superman versus Batman from what arrived later).
So the protagonist which created them sets out to destroy them.
also a quick note: Dx2 once also have a collab with Devil May Cry so Dante has appeared in two Megaten games now
(three if you count Nocturne remaster)
That RPG maker remake looks amazing
14:09 serious black lodge vibes when I see this version of the velvet room.
I'm pretty sure that "Freykugel" is a reference to german theater piece about a guy who possess 7 bullets that would never missed and he would fire 6 of them while the 7th would be fired by the devil
