I, a Mets fan, remember crying and screaming after the final out was made in this game (the Brewers also won their game 162 earlier before the Mets game ended so it was concluded that the Mets were disqualified from making the postseason). I mean to collapse in the second half of September for the second consecutive season, to lose game 162 at Shea to the Marlins for the second consecutive season. MY GOSH To close out Shea Stadium this way, it was just brutal. I remembered that the post-game-ceremonies for Shea Stadium went from possibly feeling like a festivity and celebration of Shea Stadium to then feeling like a funeral of Shea Stadium. What made this more brutal for the Mets was that it was the third consecutive season that the Mets season ended in heartbreak fashion, all at Shea Stadium = 2006 game 7 of the NLCS against the Cards, 2007-2008 game 162 against the Marlins both times. And then to make it worse, we Mets fans had to watch the division rival Phillies win it all in the 2008 season. Going into the 2009 season, I was just numb that I didnt even care for the new Citi Field Mets Stadium nor I ever cared for that 2009 team as the season started, nor did I even care as they were playing winning baseball in the first 2-3 months of the season before their 2009 season started to go downhill due to all those tons of injuries. And then having to watch the division rival Phillies face off against the state-rival Yankees in the 2009 World Series didnt make things any better. I didnt recover from this post-2008-season-down-feeling until the 2010 season was here
The Brewers game against Chicago ended before the Met game. But still, it was brutal to lose it again on the final day right after the heartbreak of 2006 and 2007.
1:24:09 Final home run ever hit by a Mets player in Shea Stadium. This was supposed to be Beltran's "redeeming" moment as a Mets player after that game-7-frozen-bat-strike-out-looking in the 2006 NLCS.
I was there that day. Myself and a few people around me really thought Delgado's ball in the 8th was gone for a second. He really hit that well, it had a good sound off the bat, off a tough lefty too. Just hit into bad luck. Tough day for a multitude of reasons obviously. We stayed until the last possible moment after all the ceremonies were over. Definitely one of the last handful of fans to have left that day.
Wow I did not think you would post this. One of the saddest days in Mets history. I remember the feeling I had when Beltran tied the game. Felt very different than 2007. that changed when the game ended unfortunately. Great upload.
It was disappointing, but it's still part of Mets history. You stick with your team through the good and bad... That's what a true fan is.. I was at this game and was the last banner shown before the Mets took the field for the final start. Thank you for posting this!!
I was there for this game! Way up in the nosebleed seats toward right field....have only been to maybe 3 or 4 games at Citi Field since. I kinda miss those Shea days!
I know this isn't a great or happy game to remember for Mets fans but this game is a hugely important moment for Brewers fans of a certain age I never thought I'd ever see my team in the postseason until this game ended. I was 23 years old at the time Thank you for this upload
@hmhm856 2007 didn't end the way the Brewers wanted but they hadn't even had a winning season for 15 years at that point so we were just happy for a winning record
@@MikeMath9 I remembered that the Brewers in 2005 needed one win against the Pirates in the final 2 games of the season to finish with a winning record, but the Brewers lost both games and ended with a .500 record of 81-81
To me 07 was the worst. They just completely threw it away. This is coming from a Phillies fan who saw them go 13-4 in that same fateful 17 game stretch. 08 they had more injuries to deal with. But the phils were a better team in 08. So this was somber more Maybe because of Shea closing. But I don't know if anything can compare to 07. It was like a funeral there in Shea that final day.
I was there in the upper tank that day and I remember letting out the nastiest fart after 3 beers and two hot dogs lol. Everyone heard it and knew it was me cause of how loud it was, haha. I wanted to leave the place with a real stench from all the times I’d paid to watch the Mets stink up the joint on the field, so I decided to stink up the seats. Haha LGM
I am so glad that you uploaded this. Cause let me tell you, I was really, really heartbroken that this old stadium got closed after this game. We're you guys heartbroken too after the closing ceremony?
Yup! Even though Citi Field is 10x better, it will never replace the history of Shea Stadium. I was also very heartbroken when the old Yankee Stadium closed just days earlier. That stadium was the definition of history!
Do you have Santana's start in the game before this? Only a few highlights remain of that on the internet, I'd love to see the full dominant pitching performance.
These Omar Minaya Mets just never scored runs on the important games. Game 7 2006 NLCS = One run, getting shut down by Jeff Suppan Game 162 2007 = One run, getting shut down by Dontrelle Willis who was HORRIBLE in 2007 and for the rest of his career since (given, Mets were too demoralized after that Glavine first inning meltdown) Game 162 2008 = 2 runs, getting shut down by Scott Olsen

Five runs in the final three games of the season is abominable. And I almost forgot how terminally atrocious this bullpen was, reminiscent of 2004-2006 Devil Rays with how rapidly they relinquished leads. RIP Shea.

That stadium was a horrible dump with no good seating anywhere. Goddamn eyesore, too.
It hurts that Church just missed
So did Delgado at 2:07:56
@Hm hm yeah but the last pitch of game are stadium, season. Not only that my 20th bday. I broke the remote and obviously my Grandmother broke me lol
church was so close bro
They should’ve had the farewell before the game, it just felt more like a funeral knowing they lost like that.
I love how this is somehow a Mets classic and yet they lost.
Classic only in the sense it closed out Shea. Had a lot of requests for this game otherwise I wasn’t going to post it.

I miss Shea Stadium to this day! I live about 8 minutes away
How fitting the Mets lose the final game ever at Shea to the Marlins who broke their hearts the season prior. Classic Mets.
2006 also got eliminated in the final game they played and at Shea as well, game 7 2006 NLCS. All 3 elimination games were just heartbreakers.
