I get tuna fever every couple of months but have been able to restrain myself from buying one.
As to whether it's worth it, worth and value are silly to discuss when it comes to watches, IF YOU LIKE IT AND MAKES YOU HAPPY it's definitely worth it 😊

My Tuna 033 is tied with my 031 for my favorite looking watch in my collection. I know it's quartz and people hate on that, but there's nothing in that price range that come close to appeal. I find the lack of lugs makes the watch play more like a 45mm. I like that the second hand ticks over two-second intervals when the battery is low so that the battery doesn't die as a surprise. Good video. Thank you.

Quartz its cool, the same way there is bad autos there are bad quartz. But the next step for quartz is solar.

So, how do you go about changing the battery since the battery is made specifically for a Tuna? Order it from somewhere send it in to Seiko to change? Curious cause i love the looks of this watch and considering getting one.

The movement is made for Tuna. The battery is an average sdandard normed battery you get for a few pennies everywhere.

I've had a similar experience with the Bulova Moon Watch. I'm normally a mechanical guy, but the Moon Watch isn't a run of the mill quartz and it checks a lot of cool boxes for me.

To me, pin and collar was not a problem at all, though I can see it getting lost obviously. The advantage of it is less friction between the links.

I bought a 9F82 movement GS watch for my ending collection of the quartz . It is really Amazing regarding the accuracy of time.
But, now, because of this video as I plan to buy 031 to add to my quartz watch collection list ..... Great presentation video, man.

Totally agree with the comment regarding the size. I have 7-inch wrists. At the beginning I downright refused to look into getting a Tuna although I have already owned a collection of predominantly Seiko divers. One day it just happened that I have an opportunity to try on a SBDX011 and immediately I told myself I have to have one. Ever since this is the watch I choose to wear 90% of time

    Hi!
I would appreciate some advices regarding the choice of my next watch. I know many disagrees with me, but I need a accurate watch, and therefore I want the 7c46 quartz movement. So I have decided to choose between these:
SBBN031 (MarineMaster text, Dome hardlex crystal, 300m, metal bracelet) USD 1000
(the one presented in the video)
SBBN045 (Prospex logo, Sapphire crystal, 300m) USD 1200
SBBN042 (Prospex logo, 1000m, limited 800 pcs, violet, titan) USD 2000
Any pros/cons or advices? thanks :)

Thank you for your reviews. (I’m just getting into watches.). Your reviews are very helpful.
I’m sold on the Tuna! 😊
    A couple questions please ....
    1) Can you do a video about how to size the bracelet?
    2) If i buy thru your Amazon link (not at a brick & mortar jewelry store) how would I get watched serviced / battery properly changed, etc ?
Can you please recommend a place to send the watch to get properly serviced i.e. battery changed & re-sealed?
    Thank you ...

I have the baby tuna srp637 and I love it. It's the only a tuna-like that I have -- the shroud is so unique to Seiko that I had to have something like it, and I liked the beefy look of it. I don't really feel the need to upgrade to a real one, though I have massive respect for it. The Tunas are iconic and a steal for the history they bring.

Hey there, been trying to find your contact, can't find it. Anyways I have a question - I am deciding between the 300M Quartz or the 1000M Quartz (the black and yellow edition, with ceramic outer case). Doesn't it bother you that the 300m version has a screwback (Marinemasters are known to have a monocoque case) and the fact that its 'only' 300m, compared to 1000m? Also, of course, when it comes to battery changes, the local Seiko service centre can replace the battery for the 300M version, but for the 1000M they told me they have to send it to Japan as they don't have the tools to open the watch. Wondering what would you advise! Thanks!

I used to avoid the Tuna because of size and cost. Now, I can confirm that even on my 6.5" wrist, the 48mm Tunas fit me very well, and am of the opinion that the pricing is not too much for these watches. They are quite brilliant.
I will say I prefer previous generations as opposed to the SBBN031/33/etc, as those newer MarineMaster hands just don't look right to me. I have the 200m Baby MM with that handset, and while it looks good on that watch, the Tuna looks best with the classic handset. Currently in the hunt for a SBBN015, and had a November 1970-built 7549-7010 before it was stolen.
    Great stuff!

For me there are 2 things that keep me from ever wanting it. 1 it is a quartz that is over a grand, 2 it is 48 mm. I don't totally hate quartz watches per say, I just wouldn't ever spend crazy money on one unless there was an immediate profit to make. I don't want any watch over 42 mm. I don't want a nondiver watch over 38 mm.
Btw, I saw the unboxing of your Tuna when you got it. I'm glad you enjoy your Tuna. That is all that matters really.

Top tip, if you lose a collar there is a cheap fix which I invented. Simply assemble the link as normal but apply a tiny speck of super glue to the last couple of millimetres of the pin before it goes in all the way. Fixed. Not a repair for a new rolex I know but puts a seiko back in service for virtually no cost.

Size wise it’s just an SKX with a shroud, same size dial, same size bezel, same size lug to lug. It wears great on my 6.75 inch wrist and I dislike large watches. Love the tuna, it’s the real deal diving tool watch.

another problem with seiko divers bracelet which have diver's extension is that the extension often dig to wrist skin and quite irritating. It's a shame, because the case material and finishing is very good and worth every penny. As for the dial, I will put score of 7 / 10 for the quality.

Movement information - Props to 'Poseidon-Jim on Watchuseek
So lets dive alittle deeper into just what this 7C46 quartz movement is, and what features it possesses ...
    First of all,
The term "Prospex" translated into English terms means (Professional Specifications), and the 7C46 quartz machine is only found and used in the SEIKO Professional Series Quartz Dive watches, namely the Tuna series and the prior Professional Ashtray models.
They the 7C46 movement & the Tuna series cases, were built with a specific purpose and intent in there specifications and ultimate design; and that was to be the best professional tool divers watch made! (So nothing was spared or held back in there design or quality of manufacture)
As we know, "Seiko" actually is the original father of this realized quartz watch technology that actually came out of the real world commercial diving industry as a answer to having a divers watch that could handle the rigors of deep depth.
Thus, they were designed with no cuts in quality or cost saving materials at all; but rather have advanced scientifically developed components and material in there make up.
The 7C46 is a (Hi-Tech) multi jeweled movement with extreamly "Hi-Torque tollerances and High efficiency" built in over prior 7 series quartz movements, which enable the 7-jeweled geartrain and pinions to motion & turn the hands in perfect sync to the energy-pulse, with much less kinetic effort via the electronic step motors that power them.
Thus making for a highly accurate and efficient full size quartz machine to perform strongly with much less resistence.
They also incorporate (dual-rate trimmers) which allow the watch to be perfectly synchronized for extream accuracy, which aid in the longevity and add to there lifespan, while running well with in the stated accuracy specs.
They also enjoy the added benifits of, Low-Drain electronics while providing High-Torque Power to the gear driven train and Oversized Hands for optimal efficiency & extended battery life. As an added plus, this caliber also incorporates the E.O.L. (End Of Life) Low battery warning feature, of the seconds hand ticking at 2 second intervals when the battery voltage is low, thus alerting the owner its time to replace the battery cell.
They also provide the Premium Benefits of being designed in a full expanded size, and are incorprated into the advanced Titanium alloy cases that house them, which are also very highly advanced designs on there own rite built with advanced shock protection built-in specifically for this movement.
The cases also provide "Enhanced antimagnetic Gauss's law & thermal compensational technology, as well as full Helium/Nitrogen gas Prevention & Dispersional technology.
They simply are just the perfect combination of the utmost in quality craftsmanship, to enable them to easily handle the various extreme conditions of Commercial diving found around the globe, in any oceanic environment.
They also can be completely disassembled for cleaning & service many years down the road; that together with the other quality design features therefore make this movement, the absolute highest quality advanced Professional quartz divers watch movement in the world AFAIC.
These highly evolved movements, as well as the Tuna series Professional Dive watch cases & components, probably hold more advanced (patent designs) than any other watch in the world!
Well I gave my thoughts and some facts about these movements, and I hope it helps you to understand just how much quality & technology goes into the 7C46 movement...
Not my words - but an excellent summary from Poseidon-Jim on Watchuseek forums. It really helped me understand and appreciate the horological importance of this quartz watch.

I have very skinny wrists. The small lug to lug size makes it wear just fine on small wrists. If you can wear an SKX007 with ease, the Tuna will be close. Don't be scared of the tuna, guys!

Love that watch. It's on my short list of watches to get.

Don't forget, that is a special quartz movement , it's only available in the tuna, and it's historically accurate as they were originally offered in quartz with this serviceable movement. As a former owner of a submariner I like that it doesn't look like a submariner. .and I don't plan on ever spending multiple thousands for a watch again. It's on my wish list .

About to order one of these..
Pin and collar is nasty. Don't know why they insist on it?

I wish they made it solar powered. Although the accumulator might require maintenance where a replaceable battery will not, still I find solar powered watches the way to go

My guess is because a solid pin is stronger than a regular cotter pin.

I just paid $1900 for this watch, albeit the newer model. Basically the same watch though.

Bought on a omega seamaster 200m (quartz) for 750 and because i didn't know the service history i did let it services for 450 at omega. Grand total of 1200 on a quartz.

+The Time Teller Maybe you should compare this to the Sinn UX? Only a bit over double the price of this watch ;)

I want a seiko diver really badly. I like the marinemaster, but that watch is way over spec'd for my needs.

The only time I'd see 300M (let alone 50M) is if someone clubbed me, tied an anvil to my waist and dropped me in the ocean.
