Great to see a poetry review that doesn't have milk and honey. It seems less of a catfished poetry tag and more genuine. Rankine's book is amazing. I'm happy you're a reader of poetry!
Oh my goodness, perfect timing! I've been wanting to read poetry lately, but I had no idea where to start! This video is exactly what I needed ^.^ Thank you for the recommendations!
I came across your channel today and after watching a few videos, I quickly hit the subscribe button. There are so many things that we have in common such as lgbtq books, journaling, etc but oh my gods, poetry! Andrea Gibson! She is one of my absolutely favorite people on earth and I cannot believe you have seen her performances live. This has completely convinced me that I did the right thing by subscribing. Also, I would recommend some Desiree Dallagiacomo, Lacey Roop and Sarah Kay (all spoken word artists, aka favorite people ever)
New subscriber, and love this video. This year I have been wanting to dive into poetry to find my connection but often not sure what to read. Ironically I downloaded two of Lang Leav's books just a few days ago so I'm thrilled to hear you recommend her. Thanks for this wonderful video.
Nice recommendations, I will check them out... I found this quote in a book that all poets can relate to... “From the wounded soul, comes poetry and music. In return, music and poetry heals the soul." 🎶 The title of the book is: "12:12 Midnight” by Danielle Ever Rose It was a great read.
I recently picked up I Wrote This For You and I wasn't sure whether the other one (the light gray one) was the same book just different cover or it had different stuff inside. Thanks for that clarification! I'll probably be picking it up now knowing it's 2 separate works.
These sound like great recommendations! I definitely want to pick up Citizen. I've been wanting to read more about racism and racial equality, but whole books on the subject always intimidate me, but I feel like a poetry collection might be an easier way to get more familiar with the subject (never thought I would say that of poetry, haha, because poetry in itself can be intimidating) I started listening to Andrea Gibson on spotify and her poetry is seriously great! Also the emotion with which she speaks is amazing.
Thank you so much!! I'm so glad you like Andrea Gibson. And Citizen will definitely shed new light on racial inequality, I totally get what you mean about books about it being intimidating haha
I don't read a whole lot of poetry and never really know where to begin so thanks for these recommendations! Added Citizen and Pansy to my TBR, they sound good :)
Hi!! I found your channel because I was looking for poetry recommendation and I bumped into this video and I loved your recs! Definitely noted more than a few titled that I'll be checking out and you seem so nice! Subscribed ;)
I haven't read it in ages, but my favorite poetry book is Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman. I also like the Brownings and Robert Frost. I am looking for poetry right now and just requested from the library some Shel Silverstein and Rainer Maria Rilke. I've always wanted to read Rilke for some reason, but never have.
I suggest reading Letter's to a Young Poet by Rilke.....Serenity shimmers through each passion filled passage. I love the letter where he speaks to the un-nameable emotions and ideas which enter into the soul and manifest at some later date. It led me to think of my own time when compassion crawled through my unconscious only to finally stand, leading me to understand how much I had grown.
i just picked up 'dirty pretty things' and 'the universe of us' and i wonder if these will be mentioned in this video! i guess i'll have to wait and see (:
i literally just found your channel, and i'm subscribing. i've been looking for a great booktuber who is lgbt+/interested in lgbt+ content, and i've also been looking to get into poetry, so this is perfect! going to check out your other videos and recommend you to my friends. :))))))

I'm loving your videos and yay for more people sharing poetry books. Wasn't a fan of love and other misadventures or dirty little things but I'm glad they're getting more people to read poetry. Also, Andrea Gibson uses they/them/their pronouns
Okay, last comment I promise but Anis Mojgani, Richard Siken, Buddy Wakefield, Marge Piercy, Jenann Verlee, Emily O'Neill, Maggie Nelson, Joshua Jennifer Espinoza, Ocean Vuong(his book is one of my favorites of this year), sam sax, jamie mortara, Saeed Jones and Megan Falley
