He might be referencing the predominant flavor in most pop dance competitors, which is boogaloo. Which to some people seems on the flamboyant side. Whereas bopping is more robotic and less flamboyant, as is classic/Compton poplocking and other main styles. This is boogaloo, which likes to create 45 degree/45-degree-esque angles with the legs, favors spins and turns, and also favors a puppet-like floppiness and looseness. To some viewers, these moves are unimpressive, perhaps un-cool, maybe a bit flamboyant. However boogalooers counter this impression by interspersing hard hits in their dance. Anyhow, I thought all the dancers had their moments--it's not easy to get out there on stage, so unless you've been a practitioner, you're not going to compete, so respect to their hard work and effort.
