John Lennon was the most honest musician ever.
Agreed. Was thinking this exact thing before I saw your comment.
I concur
Alex Chilton for brutal honesty
When he tells Bowie (Bowie’s own admission) how to write a song, you know Lennon is the ultimate songwriter and storyteller. Write what you feel, cut the bullshit and add a beat.❤
That's why he was shot.
You should check out Lennon's tune Mother - I think that's his most emotional and honest song from his solo career.
Great song...I like watching the wheels aswell.
My favorite John Lennon song and Nicky Hopkins on piano makes it even more beautiful. ✌️♥️🎶
Want to hear real honesty check out Mother by Lennon
Love this song, easily the most direct honest musician I've heard in my 66 years.
He never pulled any punches. "Mother" "Cold Turkey" "God"
"Watching The Wheels" "Woman" and at some point most definitely "Imagine" 1971 official video.
The first two here are gut wrenching, I really have to see your reactions to these two. You have no idea what your in for. "God" also a must. I love Paul but John was a different breed of cat. Paul was more production and poppy music, very catchy songs with a lot of lyrics that are a little sappy which is fine.
Lennon, this guy, this guy was minimalist in your face direct and honest. I appreciate that kinda of stuff because it's rare in music.
Thanks for this one.
Peace ❤
Lennon's early solo work captures a man in turmoil, channeling his rolled feelings into high art. The suggestions you have provided are excellent showcasing of what I mean.
Good comment.❤
Lennon/McCartney were a song-writing team especially early Beatles. Even later when they began to write songs alone, they were contractually credited together. This song writing team is considered one of the best in music history actually.
Each Beatle fan has their favorite. Mine is Lennon because his lyrics spoke to me more than the others. Paul was probably the most gifted musically and was a master of the melody, but his solo work never inspired me like Lennon. Paul wrote some great lyrics as a Beatles (Let It Be, Eleanor Rigby, Blackbird, etc), but his solo work featured rather light lyrics. Paul even referred to his solo work once as silly love songs.
I don't want to start an argument with Paul McCartney fans. I give him credit for being the most talented musically. As Ringo said, Paul was also the hardest worker. It's just that John wrote lyrics that spoke to me more than the other Beatles as solo artists.
Id say what you said is correct, but I prefer George to any of the other Beatles. But, that just personal preference. Paul's solo stuff was never close to the Beatles stuff he wrote...imho.
I like Johns work also, but George to me just connects 🤷♂
@@larrynorgaard5730 I like George's solo work too. I think All Things Must Pass was the best album by any of them post Beatles.
John had the rock and roll attitude that kept them relevant and experimenting🤘❤️
I don't know if you've done Instant Karma or Watching The Wheels(my favorite).I think you will love them!
I love Watching the Wheels. It doesn't connect with people quite as well as this one does, but John's singing is just as great. I'd probably say Watching the Wheels is my favorite solo John song. Top ten John song, Beatles included.
He hasn't done Instant Karma. I don't know if you know... You can click on Watch BizMatik below left of this video and it will take you to BizMatik's youtube home page. Click in the search box on the right (not the one at the top of the screen), and search, John Lennon or the song title and you can see what he has reviewed.
I also love 'Watching Wheels', great song; also '#9 Dream', 'Instant Karma', and 'Gimme Some Truth'.
Watching the wheels is a favourite of mine aswell
Although there are MANY other groups and performers that I love, Beatles will always be #1 with me. I have loved them since I was in grade school, was unbelievably excited to see them live on Ed Sullivan show, and "Meet the Beatles" was my first album. There is just something incredibly special about them, so much talent and a soundtrack to my life. Love them together and seperately. Depending on my mood, one day I love John best, another day Paul, Then I will hear one of George's masterpieces and love him best. They were the absolute best band ever, IMO, and their music is timeless - even my mother loved them!!
His voice is so soothing 😔
John Lennon became the most honest artist. I love his solo work, especially this album and Plastic Ono Band - check out God, or Love.
To some degree and yet he had a selfish side that hurt many people close to him! He was no angel!
@@joelliebler5690 We all know his past, at least those who have followed him. And part of the reason we know his faults was his honesty. He spoke about his inner demons in his art, to the entire world. His art became the healing process. Almost no one has been that open and honest. That's why I say he became the most honest artist.
Try Lennon's song, "How Do You Sleep?" from his Imagine album.
It is a take down of McCartney when they were not too friendly after the Beatles break up. He also brings in George Harrison for a great slide guitar solo.
Jealousy is often overlooked.
Such a hauntingly beautiful song! Interestingly, I have The Beatles White Album on CD, and there is a song on it called "Child of Nature" that is the same song with different lyrics. He obviously re-wrote the lyrics for his solo album
#9 Dream and Gimme Some Truth
This album is still amazing. As a kid ,knowing this album helped me understand a lot of what life threw at me.
Our role in John's music was as his psychiatrist, he opened up to us.
Beautiful song.
Just another beautiful song of his. Biz, please, please, listen to Imagine. The lyrics are very important
I will
Much of this song, which I love, & was recorded in 71 but released in '85 according to Wikipedia, sounds so much like the 1967 Beatles song " A Day in the Life" which goes in a different direction ultimately. But I love the sound of both songs. The lyrics seem to excuse bad behavior. But I like your reaction. ❤ Ringo isnt even close- you are right. I love Lennon's voice, but according to Ringo & Harrison, McCartney was the schedule keeper & work horse and if it hadnt been for McCartney, albums just would not have gotten done. Paul rallied the troops to get in the stufio and work. Lennon was the poetic dreamer.❤
How many more songs or books would John have created if not for his offing. One of my faves of Johns recordings. Thanks Bizz! 👍👍
That was awesome never heard it before.
One of the most overlooked songs by Lennon is Old Dirt Road off of Walls and Bridges. It was written with Harry Nilsson and it is beautiful. I think you'll love it! ✌️❤
Beautiful song by John thanks Biz
Watching the wheels, yer blues, woman, starting over
Love this song....my mum used to love it when i was a kid.
If you have not heard the entire Imagine song, you should check it out.
John held onto this melody for a number of years. He has different words for it when he was still in the Beatles. Yoko would have known this. So the fact he used this melody he'd been holding in order to apologize would have added to its impact.
Nicky Hopkins played piano on this song. He was one of the greatest session pianists in rock history, best known for his work with the Rolling Stones (She's a Rainbow, Angie).
There's a video with John somewhere on UA-cam where he talks about a bunch of different Beatles songs and how they were written. He talks about Getting Better from Sgt Pepper, where he talks about being cruel to his woman and beating her.
What he said was that he is a naturally violent person who has had to struggle and learn how not to be. It really hit home for me. I still fight to control the explosive impulses at age 52.
A very good one that touches all of us. Try Imagine, you will love it, whether realistic or not I believe most people would want universal peace and happiness!
Great song. I would check out Woman,Instant Karma and Whatever gets you through the Night.
John Lennon admitted to being a terrible father to Julian, an abusive husband to Cynthia and an all around bad person. As he got older he seemed to want to become a better person. Only his family knows if he was making progress before his murder.
Watching The Wheels is my favorite song by him. I think you will like it a lot.
Love this song so much. There will never be another John and Paul. I recommend you checking out George's album "All Things Must Pass " it's a stunning album as well.
Top three post Beatles albums along with All Things Must Pass and Ram. Many great songs on that album.
Gotta do Imagine Biz. One of the most important Lennon, or Beatles, songs.
"Beautiful boy" is really good one
Quite the writer, huh?🤘❤️
My favorite Beatle! John was phenomenal!
Try INSTANT KARMA... say no more ☮️🇦🇺🥗
Check out his version of angel baby. It was a fav of his so he did his version as sort of a whim. But it is so good🤘❤️
Check out Borrowed Time next! Bryan Ferry did a good cover of Jealous Guy.
How many other groups can you think of who broke up and all of the solo members had very successful solo careers? The closest I can think of are the Eagles. Anyway, that kind of gives a sense of the talent these 4 had.
An interesting anecdote on this track. It's the 3rd on side 1. On side 2, the 3rd track is 'How Do You Sleep?' which is a scathing evisceration of Paul. Some have noted that 'Jealous Guy' is not directed at Yoko, but at Paul. Basically, this track is the apology to the criticism found in 'How Do You Sleep' on the other side.
Biz, I'm surprised you haven't reacted to the new Beatles song that was released 2 months ago on November 2nd, 2023. Many reactors have done a reaction to it already, and it doesn't appear anybody has had copyright issues with it (probably because it's new and they wanted as much hype as possible to keep it on the charts). And it still is on the Billboard Rock Charts ( I think it's their longest running single on some of the Billboard Charts). The song debuted at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100, and peaked at #1 on the UK Spotify Charts. You should also react to the 12 minute video explaining how the song was made. If you decide to react to the song (I really hope you do), definitely react to the 12 minute video first (again, I've seen many other reactors do the same),. The 12 minute video will explain a lot before watching the actual music video. And note, the music video was directed by Peter Jackson. I'll attach links to both.

I like to think he wrote this to Paul McCartney. Klaus Voormann, a fried of the Beatles who is playing Bass is playing such a Paul McCartney Bass line further confirms my suspicious.
Please listen to the most underrated song by John Lennon: watching the wheels ..
A musical prophet. The greatest. The Black Crowes do a good version of this song.
He wrote this song in India back in 1968, with the original song being, "Im one of Nature's childs.". He toyed with the song for another 5 years before getting the right lyrics.
Good pick,liked and subscribed
❤
One interpretation I've heard is losing a relationship with a girlfriend/boyfriend/wife, etc. Another is the changes to his and Paul's relationship.
Zebra -"Tell Me What You Want"🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
John Lennon / I found out
You know that’s Nohn on the Piana
John Lennon
Nohn
Just give me some truth my suggestion for the next John Lennon tune
Please listen to BILLY STRINGS "JOHN HENRY" fretboard journals react or not you must at least hear it
Listen to George Harrison songs
Working Class Hero is truth...Try it
Already did
@@watchbizmatik Too cool...!
Brian Ferry does a great version of this. I find it hard to like John's stuff that he wrote about Yoko because, as a Brit, we all hated her so much. John set the Communist Manifesto to music and called it Imagine. It was banned on the media in the UK and I think John would have had a huge laugh that Imagine is so popular in the States!!
That’s fine as an American who adores his music for it honest inner searching, his love songs to Yoko are breathtaking. The racist misogyny of that era is glaringly obvious and ugly
We hated her for breaking up the Beatles not for any racist reason 🤣@@AP-gb3eh
His best tune individually in my opinion
