Goddamn, this video has come back from the dead more times than Dracula.

Its hinted to be dracula. Brom stroker did wrote a more abscure story about dracula having a "daughter" and also the dragon emblem we see several times in the movie; vlad the impaler tepes (who dracula is inspired by) and his father belonged to an order called the order of the dragon.

I took my mom to see this in theaters without telling her anything except that there was a twist- she absolutely loved it. I think the reason they kinda had to give the vampire thing away in the marketing is because the beginning is SO tonally different from the post-reveal movie. My mom doesn't like action/psych thrillers so was hesitant when I just read her the spoiler-free synopsis and specifically mentioned part of why she liked the twist so much is because she really wasn't looking forward to watching a movie about what a team of violent kidnappers stuck with a 12 year old girl for 24 hours was going to get up to. But on the flip side of that, had the marketing only depicted the non-twist part of the story to keep it a surprise, you'd probably have a bunch of people who DO like action/psych thrillers going into it thinking that's what they paid for... only to get a fun & campy gorefest horror comedy. Pulling the rug out from under the audience can lead to bad reviews and it wasn't like people weren't going to start spoiling the twist anyway once the movie released.

Guy you can’t win whether the trailers spoiled or not. Someone will always be upset..

The reading scene & the first kill-reveal reminded me of the Mindhunters movie (not to be confused with the TV show, which I have not seen). It also had a And Then There Were None type of plot

Yeah, I saw that one back when it came out. Interesting, if convoluted.
