i like your familys' awsomeness and freeness. how cool to see a youtuber that doesnt hide behind a solo persona. nice mushroom stained art looking picture hanging above the fishtank! keep being a wild mushroom!
Thank you! Appreciate the supportive comments. All the art on our walls is our original stuff. I enjoy making em even though my skill level is early elementary at best LOL 😂
Hey buddy nice finds. I live east of Terre Haute Indiana. We have plenty of fungi growing around here. What part of Indiana did you guys make these finds?
Yes sir and these areas around Brazil & Staunton are ripe with all types. That’s really neat to see a video of the area I live in. I basically live in the woods. Hate the ticks though.
What field guide are you working from in the video? I have several small ones but I haven't seen one that size or that color binding. I nerd out over field guides
It’s the Audubon guide. I’ve heard a new version is going to be released soon. To me it’s the best all around shroom field guide, but it is a bit out dated.
@@reliablyrandomoutdoors ok, right on. I've got a couple of smaller guides and a few elders I bother alot about identification, but I'm going to order that audobon guide. Thanks you for the reference to it
Just started getting into foraging for mushrooms the last few years while scouting for my upcoming deer season.. so far I look for chicken of the woods, morel, chanterelles, but I was curious on how to store them for longer.. I found an entire hill side of chanterelles the other day can I vacuum seal them and freeze them? Thanks for the informative video!!! I’ve been passing up the red smaller chanterelles now I know they are edible!!
Hey Darren, Those are all great shrooms to get started with. I personally prefer canning mushrooms to preserve them mainly because I never seem to remember to thaw them out before I start cooking LOL. Also Canning keeps them for the long haul multiple years if need be. usually I target canning a 1 year supply of mushrooms like chanterelle or chicken of the woods. any more seems useless since I will be able to find them again in a year. I can tell you Chanterelles do not rehydrate well so Personally did not find dehydration to be an effective way of preserving them. Are you familiar with Oysters yet? Being a deer hunter thats one you should get familiar with as it is often available in large supply in the winter hunting seasons. Feel free to give me a shout if you have any questions.
@@reliablyrandomoutdoors yes!!!!!! I actually found my first cluster of oysters in my back yard woods on a huge dead elm tree.. they were so good… I actually sautéed them and left them whole and put them on smoked deer burgers… sooooooo good
I usually keep the audubon society Shroom field guide on me. If you saw one in the video it must be that one. has a maroon cover. its a good starting point for identification.
Nice meeting you that day and thanks for sharing your mushrooms. I fried them that night. They were really good!!
Hello again! Nice meeting you as well. Glad to hear you enjoyed the mushrooms

Audubon field guide. It’s a little out of date but still the best field guide in my opinion
What book is that?
Autobahn society field guide to wild mushrooms. It is about the best all round guide. It is easy to Carry and has most of the common mushrooms in it
