    Fabulous. Great that such wonderful music festivals exist in the US, with so many dedicated and enthusiastic players. I play (mostly) English trad music, so I feel a great connexion to the players here. Good to see some dancing at the end too.

    As a long time fan of old time music it is very interesting to see so many great troupes playing the good stuff and never see a mandolin at all! Out here in California fiddle and banjo dominate the music as well but mandolins are quite welcome while stand up bass is often shunned (although one is welcome to play similar backup runs on guitar). Great video. Gotta make it to Clifftop before I die. Maybe I’ll just bring guitar and bass.

    • @stepno
      @stepno 3 роки тому

      Mandolin players do tend to get drowned out or skipped over in oldtime multiple-fiddle-and-banjo session movies, but we're still there. ;-)

    Those kids at 26:25 were amazing and loved both of the songs they played. Anyone know what the song titles were? I could only make out part of the lyrics on the second song but they went something like this: "Thank the Lord and sit up straight, mind your manners and wash your face." Thanks,

    • @willydogdave
      @willydogdave 5 років тому +2

      The way I hear it is: "Praise the Lord, and sit up straight. Mind your manners, and clean your plate." That's a value system you can rely on. Mama's doing a good job.

    Tofu for breakfast? Yuck.
    Bacon or sausage, scrambled eggs, and biscuits and gravy.... That's what most West Virginians still prefer....along with ham, beef and fried chicken.
    Everyone who plays fiddle is a vegan?.... Yeah, right. 😂
    That's hilarious.
    But I loved the music and the people.
    It takes me to years back, when I was still in West Virginia where generations of my family were born and raised.
    I miss West Virginia and my loved ones now long gone, so much.
