"GONG HEI FAT CHOI" -Marcus is a sort of blessing in China, "恭喜发财"(Gong xi fa chai) in Chinese. It means good fortune to you. We often use it in the Chinese new year when greeting someone.
Ah, do correct me if I'm wrong, but "Gong Hei Fat Choi" is Cantonese, while Gong Xi Fa Chai is Standard Chinese, yes? Though it seems the typical romanization is "Kong."

I suddenly had a thought about Marcus... I loved her character but I almost hope she becomes like a young version of Sherlock Holmes (I feel like it is a fitting arch with her gaining confidence), it actually feels like it could go down a really fun track. Regardless of whether they head that direction or not (or whether she will be prominent in future story), I am sure bluepoch will have great things in store...

I'm sorry to say, but Hoffman is the best character right now in my heart. She had more qualities than mc itself/Vertin, just she don't have storm immunity. She act professionally, less talk more action, indifferent to meaningless topic, an excellent mentor, forgiving but strict, true to his responsibility/mission.
Uh everything you listed is something that Vertin already have if you actually read the side events. Not to mention, her leadership far exceed Hoffman because she need to handle an entire cast of arcanist in her team.
