I discovered this myself recently. Had a DIY filter and last month after I vacuumed the substrate and did a 1/4 water change, the water would not clear. Had to do more 1/4 water changes over the next few days to get it to clear. This month, when I vacuumed, etc., I put in a new sponge filter. The water cleared up in about 2 hours. Ordered from amazon very cheap.
This isn't a efficiency comparison... it's one of EFFECTIVENESS. The D.I.Y. filter clearly didn't do as well as the sponge, and is partially because the total area that base/insert of the D.I.Y. filter couldn't draw upon as large of area as the the one the sponge comes with. The other part: The I.D. (Inside Diameter) of the hose used as a riser in the D.I.Y. model isn't as large as the one included & used with the sponge. Remember: pressure is nothing without flow! ;)
Submerged sponge filter's real and main purpose is for housing of nitrobacter (benifecial bacteria) or what we call biological filtration. Not really for mechanical filtration though it filters a little of debris but it is made not for that purpose. Many people are misinformed.
Yah but it depends on type of fish you have. Commonly in our area We used the polyester filter because its cheap and this ployester sponge is verygood in cleaning, absorbing small debris that turn the water dark or removing the cloudyness of the water. Then the sponge meant to be trown away or just washed for another use. Thanks for the comment bro
When servicing every week the sponge filter in my aquarium it throws a lot of waste so probably does both things and also creates turbulance in the surface oxigenating the water. A simple reliable economic filter.
Not a good test. The sponge filter was placed at the side of the tank creating better circulation, and the air was traveling a greater distance due to the design of the sponge filter. Take the rocks out of the DIY filter and put the tube closer to the bottom of the bottle and the air hose closer to the bottom as well. After place both filters in the same spot closer to the side of the tank not the middle.
FOXXX 27 not to mention the div sponge filter wasn’t sponge at all. It was filter floss or cotton batting. 2 diff materials. Should’ve gotten the same sponge for it to be a true comparison
Ok look I’m not a hater for the video or the info in fact is a really good video but u r using different kinds of filter material the black filter yes it got the water looking more clean but the white diy filter is for smaller particles in the long run the diy filter like the one u r showing filters out smaller particles then the black bought filte. r again I apologized I don’t want to Estep on your toes or upset you in eny way just thought I could add additional information.great video buddy keep making them hello from Texas 👍🏻
I love when people mimic other videos they have seen without realizing the purpose of the of the action - IE the snap to a set up scene. Here watch me set up the scene then SNAP oh wait I made you watch it anyway...
Nice one bro... Technically as certain expert naratted..the comparison can't justify.... As you aware the density of the sponge, the way it attached & dimensions are all count. But I appreciate the trouble you took to prove the efficiency of your DIY... And it's indeed proved as a player for the Game. Thanks bro & congrats... Do keep posting.
like someone said below, sponge filters are biological filters. They are not made for mechanical filtration. If you want to keep your tank water clear, it will help to an extent. But it is not made for that purpose. Your DIY filter is obviously inefficient as a mechanical filter seeing that it is just as bad as the sponge filter when it comes to mechanical filtration/polishing water (which was the point of the test). But no doubt it will work as a biological filter. The fiber you used on the DIY filter will only work as a means to keep the medium on the inside clean from debris and will clog up eventually and will need cleaning just like the sponge filter. You are testing two filters for something they are not made for. You don't even have a sponge on your DIY "sponge" filter.

Why my sponge filter does not bubbling I buy to store XY-2810 I use Single airpump AQUASPEED but if I put it on little bit top it bubbles but in low water it doesn't bubble pls help
it depends in how deep your aquarium or the water on how deep it is. may be the single air pump can’t put much pressure cause the water is too deep. or the air-pump have defects
San Aquatics bro if you have a budget buy original filter it looks beautiful in aquarium .but if you’re low in budget and have many aquarium the DIY sponge filter will save you 10x more money. the DIY and Filter you can buy work the same 👌
Mas malinis tlga yun binebentang filter kc design tlga yan yun air nyan e hanggng baba ang hangin pataas unlike sa diy n ginawa mo is nsa ibabaw lng hose mo d umaabotyun air hanggng baba.thats why mhina mkahigop ng dumi diy mu.try to locate tube hose hanggng sa mid ground ng diy filter lalakas din higop nyan.
This is rubbish. It's a comparison between a commercially made sponge filter (which are not much good at mechanical filtration) with about the worst home made filter I've ever seen. If you make the filter properly, they work great!
Why would you DIY a sponge filter? Are we trying to be ghetto? It's not worth the trouble. If you are too cheap or can't afford an $8 sponge filter per aquarium you shouldn't be in the hobby.
The dust just setteled down lol
Been doing lots of diy lately. Getting results as good if not better with diy. Don't give up on it as you can custom build to your liking with diy

Good job well done it's a good work you do
If i had a dollar for everytime this guy said "sponge" or "sponge filter" id make bill gates look poor

A good idea and an honest presentation.
Nice voice over
Mine worked verry well.. All dirt were gathered with my DIY sponge dilter.. No waste in the water was left..
use the 1" PVC pipe instead of plastic bottle it will increase the pressure inside.
Yeah but the spong filter you can buy still works better.
Thanks man its realy helpfull
nice video! thanks
A sponge filter isn’t really for mechanical filtration. The finer filter will remove more no matter what.

Excactly what i was thinking the DIY FILTER was FINE media while the SPONGE STORE filter was more or less medium media
Yes I actually have filter material like the one on diy because it filters out more fine particles it just take longer

Sponge filter long tube and short tube testing. it is more interesting.
anindya singha yes please
Hindi ba didikit ang mga fry niyan?
How about spongefilter vs submersible filter what is better?
Nice DIY filter thx
i mainly use sponge filters as Biological filters only.
could you make an other video but in the diy use some carbon in there coz i think the carbon might scrub the water better
thanks great video
Good job thumps up for sir
nice video, more prove than talk 👍
Best video for helping me thanks men
Would modifying and placing an air stone inside of the pre made sponge filter help any?

Mas malaki po kse yung spongefilter na nabibile sa pet store. Pero kung mas lalakihan mo pa yung d.i.y na spongefilter mas lilinaw pa yan ser.
great video bro
test the nitrate and nitrite level not the cloudiness bc of the soil.. thats not how sponge filter works.
Nice video

Can you do a review on 6d filter sponge ..?
The dirt just sink at the bottom?
true but you can see the diy filter has some deposits on it which indicates that they at least do some work.
How if both of them using the same sponge material?
My kaboses ka na motovlogger.. :)
How many aquariums does that airpump can produce a bubble (i have the same airpump)
Which filter is best sponge filter r diy sponge filter

Hey bro I lost my bio filters tube is it ok or not?
its okay just stick in the side of the filter the airtube hose
I think the white is wrong technic. The stone make the buble become not efficient to swap the dust in the water.

@@BiTen777 salamt sir
What happen at the end?🤔
Where do I buy the filter on the left?
Petstores should have them. Check Amazon too
you should have equalized the tubes' diameter, the length the air is in each tube, and the depth at which the air tube releases air into the tubes.

First of the video: too many dirty water pour in diy tank
Pls do another video make many hole to your diy bottle and let see again the results.
Thnx
I agree to u ser.
Mahal po ba yung ganyan kalaking sponge filter sa pet shop?

I will contradict you. I have many diy sponge filters and they are way superior.
Sige ipilit mo yang pang eenglish mo 🤣😂😅
Nice try next hob test?
There are many different ways you can set up a DIY sponge filter, this is just one poor example of how not to set up a DIY sponge filter.
