He’s certainly in the best place to learn like he says, playing with the calibre of player at racing is definitely going to help him in the long run and hopefully by the time he comes back there will be an England coach who will play a brand of rugby that lets him shine and show his talent instead of the kick chase game of Borthwick
Agree that he will do well at Racing and it will be great for his development - for me I am still open minded about how Borthwick will set the team up to play now he has a longer stretch to develop them... but there is next to no chance that Borthwick will not still be in place at the next world cup, at which point Arundell will be back in contention.
Intelligent response from a potential great player - questions asked about him moving abroad, but clearly it's about his development - he already knows how to chase kicks, and that's all SB is asking....
Young enough to learn more and get experience in new environments and new ways of approaching the game. Will eventually come back to England with lots of experience with years of good rugby ahead of him. Good luck

My first job was in France (not as a pro' rugby player of course, but I did play for my local team ;o) ), so I can totally get what he wants from life and rugby. Good luck to him.

Listening to Henry speak and the clear wise head he has on his shoulders has told me everything I need to know about his and farrells fall out in the England camp when you can clearly see his attitude
Scored 5 against Chile, dropped the next game for a subpar May who'd barely played all season. Choice was made easy for him by Borthers, who despite our positive WC remains clueless to me
It’s seems playing for England isn’t the pinnacle of the sport it used to be. Great to see Arundel changing the narrative and choosing international experience at the start of his career, rather than at the end. Hopefully it serves him well.

I fell in love with Rugby 9 years ago. I’ve followed Ghallagher Prem since then. I’m so blown away you and Worcester and Wasps are gone. I live in LA and we had Giltinis for a few years. I volunteered for the team. I worked the games on Saturdays. Then my work email didn’t work. Then team was gone. I can relate somewhat.

Fin is rapidly coming through the ranks, his game is developing all the time, hit a new level against Munster last week. I don’t think it’ll be long before his name is firmly on the England 10 shirt.

England need to play that way until we get a pack that can really physically compete with France and Ireland (and SA, NZ of course). Look what happened to Sarry's and Leicester at the weekend, look what happened last 6Ns. When Lawes came in England competed, Lawes is out now and they have to get the pack in the groove. Until then they have to play in the opposition 1/2
@@simonthompson1099 Look what Bath did against Racing. Look how Barbeary was bouncing defenders (most legally...) all game. We are producing the ball carrying forwards now. If we manage to get Genge, Martin, Earl, Barbeary and even Pearson all in that pack at some stage we've got some proper gain line carriers now up front.
@@nickrad6966 it is great to see some younger players coming through, but we have 1 prop who can match the physicality and pace of the French/Irish front row (Genge) and 1 hooker (George). Dan will get the strength (I am 100%) but he's not quite there yet. Mharler and Cole are back in for a reason - the scrum will get blown away without them, and if that happens England get marmalised. They are great players but poor old sods just can't compete in the dynamism stakes. Agree about Martin - but he's now crocked., Barbeary is likely banned, Pearson is a huge talent and will be awsome once he's got some experience - which Borthwick will have to let him get at some point.
Borthwick is right - you need the two set peices from the pack above everything else. Once you have those then you can get wild, problem is for England to get those they have to play two props who are 57 and three locks.
One ray of light is that Itoje seems to have bulked up significantly which could lend some real drive - this might mean that England can bring 3 backrowers in. Another ray of light is Tom Willis - I expect him to be straight in if he gets fit again and if Dombrandt continues to disappoint internationally. Willis has the brute and height to really do the 3rd lock job and he's got the pace and dynamism to make a massive impact round the park as well.
But Fin Baxter, Joe Haynes and Asher Opoku-Fordjour need to come through, Ben Obano too, they all really need to develop significantly to get England to a place where they dare to go toe to toe with the top sides in their half.
Playing in England, he would rarely get the ball especially with all the kick tennis these days. Don't blame him.
He's make a very good choice. Let's be real, pro rugby rhythm has become unreal with too many matchs by season. So why add few England caps with Borthwick boring style when you can make much more progress around players like Fickou, Kolisi, Imhoff, Tuisova, Le Garrec..? He will be back in 2 years in england for 2027.

If only the RFU would wake up and listen to people like Arundel. Of course he is speaking immense sense about his growth and development. Why the dumb arse rfu cannot see the benefits of this and ban people from playing abroad is simply put very stupid. It is also holding our game and our player and coaching development back. When will we rid ourselves of the most useless Legacy English rugby possesses. The old useless ex player farts that run it. Jim Hamilton is one of the best pundits, makes other ex players look like one eyed, sycophants, who base their views on loyalty shown through their career, not on informed insight. Hamilton is the top of the crop.
Couldn't agree more and I do feel bad for saying this but Rugby in this country will only truly start to be fixed, when those from the amateur era now running the game at the top, are gone and make way for fresh thinking. And the selection rule is stupid, Surely there's middle ground? Over certain amount of caps and/or time in the prem and you are allowed to be based abroad and selected. Everyone is allowed 3 years in another league. Something along these lines.
@@mysteryhombre81 indeed something needs to be addressed, I am an old rugby player who never played fully professionally so what do I know. But I have spent 30 years in the talent industry building teams and understanding and observing how they perform at the highest levels or not. It always has more to do with the environment, the desire to learn grow and develop than how much talent individuals possess. Rugby prefers those with playing pedigree still, rather than those who really get teams, people and how to motivate performance manage and encourage players. None of the best football coaches are successful due to the goals they did or didn't score when playing - i.e. klopp - average player - truly world class coach, yes he knows about football which helps but his real brilliance is people, and bringing them together for a 'purpose' led cause.This is where coaches like jones will never progress beyond being a saviour of truly broken teams, he's a sledge hammer, once fixed he lacks the more rounded and subtle people talent and skill to move an ok team to truly world class. His last 15 years as a coach have underlined this. Rugby needs to wake up and evolve in England if we are ever to be where our player pool and suggested talent hints we should be! There's little sign of this self awareness just lots of back slapping due to being 3rd. Again for any team with high performance aspirations, this is the opposite of what should be happening. jones made a similar mistake when 4 years before the world cup he focused the semis final - and NZ, no surprise we were totally undercooked underprepared and under performed in the final. We won our rwc in the semi, so were set yo to fail 4 years beforehand. Let see if Borthwick can evolve and grow his coaching and leadership style - he's quite self aware and seems to possess the humility and desire to get better, to look at himself from this perspective.
Very diplomatic, but he was treated shabbily at the World Cup. Yes, he will gain experience with Racing but needed to be properly unleashed in France. Experience brings with it caution and the lack of it is what makes him so dangerous - fearless. Totally wasted in the World Cup. All the best to him anyway. RFU are a total joke and what they’ve done to international 7s in the UK is beyond shameful.
Let English players learn from the best. Stop stifling them.

Strange decision. Must only be about money. Not knocking it but he’s going to limit his career. Playing international rugby at the top level is all that anyone really cares about or remembers, world cups and six nations.
