Remember the "Godzilla Fan Animation Thing" preview clips that I've been uploading in years past? This is another one of those, taking place between • Godzilla Fan Animation... and • Godzilla vs Mechagodzi... I haven't touched the project for nearly two years now, it was interesting to go back and look at it with fresh eyes.
This was my first attempt at a giant monster battle, made back in early 2015. I wanted to share this so bad for years, but the computer I was using at the time could barely render and even animating was a challenge. That is one reason why this looks so rough, but I was still figuring out how to handle basic things. My intent was always to start the project with slower, simpler fights and gradually make the action crazier in later scenes as I got more comfortable with animating and adding effects.
This scene actually looked much worse originally. For this upload, I had to update every shot, fix animation errors, make the movements less stiff, speed them up or slow them down, modify camera motions and angles, and redo some shots entirely. I also re-modeled Ghidorah's body. But there wasn't much I could improve on the fight itself, if you can even call it a fight. It's more of a brief standoff.
Since this is still just a preview, I may or may not do more corrections later, for when (or if) I complete the whole project, which is currently made up of about an hour and 20 minutes of unfinished animation.
I apologize for the fluctuating audio and the unevenly spliced music. UA-cam blocked this video multiple times due to copyright issues, so the music had to be changed. That is one thing I cannot improve upon. I still don't know how I'll handle the rest of this project, since so much of it relies on copyrighted music. Back in 2015, this wasn't that big of an issue, but currently it's the biggest roadblock for the project. Even though it's a big parody, that isn't always accepted as an example of fair use.

I really liked how Vrahno makes the monsters use their jaws as their main source to defend themselves, that's really something you didn't see a lot in the showa films

The animation is outstanding! The way Godzilla fight is so unique and badass, love the way he throw punches at King Ghidorah

But the string mechanism part has never crossed my mind, guess that's one way to make the film :D
The characters look so goofy (In a great way) that I always forget how gory you make your videos and i'm always taken aback. I love it.
believe it or not godzilla movies erred towards the gory more often than not. even in something more kid friendly as godzilla fighting hidorah, he kinda got half his face melted by the poison.

The old Showa Gamera films were violent as hell, Gamera got cut up all the time, Viras straight-up impaled him, Guiron chopped a Space Gyaos to pieces on-screen and then got half his head blown off, etc.
I absolutely love the detail of Ghidorah having strings holding his wings and head.
Ghidorah using his tails to balance while kicking godzilla is something toho really missed an opportunity on

You wanna know why toho didn't do that Because the suit I think weighed 1,000-2,000 lbs And there was a dude in it So You can take into account that it's 1000 Ib 2,000 So they were to make The ghidorah suit Stand on it's tail Thay would have had to Pin the tails to the ground So the suit could stand

and the fact that you can see the threads on the ghidorah collars gives it a very nostalgic touch, it would be great if it will also animate other monsters like Gamera, good luck this year vranho
This was amazing, and I like how you decided to go with a more slow moving accurate look, and the effects with the collision of the atomic breath and gravity beams was phenomenal

Great job on this! I love how this fight’s a lot slower paced and feels like a classic Godzilla Movie, nice change of pace compared to the more fast paced energy of the Godzilla/Anguirus vs Mechagodzilla battles.
Great stuff, one thing I think that this shows really well is how much of an impact the size difference between kaiju has on making a fight feel good. Showa Ghidorah's technically 100 meters tall, i.e. 2x as tall as Showa Godzilla, although the suit size differences clearly weren't that much. But the animation definitely seems to be adhering to a size difference similar to the stated numbers, and it really makes it difficult for a fight to feel...organic? Vrahno does an excellent job, but it's even joked at in the animation, with Godzilla having to jump to reach Ghidorah's necks or resort to clawing at the chest and then engaging in a bite exchange. This is why KG tends to be 1.5x as tall as Godzilla, since it allows for combat that feels less...gimmicky? Dunno the right word.
I think when measuring showa ghidorah they were also including the wings, hence the abrupt difference in height.
@@mystut306 one of the official Toho books doesn't include the wings, but others might, or they assume KG is standing up 100% straight which he almost never does in any incarnation
Yeah! Of all these monster fights you can tell this ones really personal! I love how close corners it all is! Neither monsters giving the other an inch of breathing room! That biting match is intense, and Godzilla Jumping up to reach King ghidorahs heads got a chuckle out of me! Wonderful work i’ll love seeing it completed!
I really love the attention to little details like: bouncing Godzilla's dorsal fins and small strings on King Ghidorah's necks and wings, it conveys the feeling of the Showa era films

gosh I really love the slapstick and squash and stretch animation you do. Even in these slight bits of comedic body language are present and it makes it very fun! You have an animation style that's absolutely top tier and unique. You rock on Vrahno

You just captured the whole essence of a showa kaiju fight with improved SFX and fluid animations, you're a legend
I love how he added the strings above ghidorah's wings and heads because thats what they need for the suit to stand up in the movies. Small details really show that a person put hard work into that thing.
I love how the mechagodzilla fights were based more on speed but this fight between the two biggest and baddest Kaiju out there(well not really) is based more on power and strength. You conveyed the weight and power so well here great job

I like the way the fight adheres to the tone of the music, similar to how the Anguirus vs Mechagodzilla fight had a faster pace.
I like how after the beam battle, the attack speed increases.
Since slow moving kaijus are what people see, fast paced moves are the monsters pov

This is one of the best animations I’ve ever seen
It’s been a whole year since this preview was posted, but if the real fight actually came, I actually have some hope that ghidorah actually win, since this man does actually let godzilla lose to mechagodzilla before, so I did feel like vrahno isn’t one of those people who always lets godzilla always win over every monster no matter what it is just because he’s more of a main character through almost all of his franchise.

not sure why it crossed my feed finally but i fully expect you to revisit this little thing and have some epic climax just to show Ghidorah loosing a hand of spades to Godzilla or some goofy crap. The good ol' cheap joke is why i like watching your animations. You make us believe the villain is competent and then he's asking for directions two feet away from his destination near a neon sign.

I'd like to imagine if this was set in a flashback around the ancient times in the MonsterVerse era when King Ghidorah arrived to Earth and clashed with Godzilla for the very first time (1:15) the various expressive reactions from each of his heads witnessing the charge up from Godzilla's Atomic Breath about to used on him as he's also thinking: "He has a Breath Weapon as well?"
Its interesting seeing Godzilla fight so competently here because compared to the other one on one showa fights he always seemed to struggle a lot more- which I guess isn't too fair of a comparison because his only other adversary has been Mechagodzilla which is basically a clone of him. Godzilla is fighting very frantically to make up for his enemy being able to cover more area than him, I'm not sure if that was something you were considering but its cool to speculate. I like that Ghidorah appears apprehensive to use his heads and necks aggressively- the polar opposite of how he fights in the atari fighting games. As a monster much larger than godzilla I like that you portrayed him as slower moving with a slower reaction time. Godzilla feels like more of a threat to Ghidorah, and Ghidorah is quick to keep out of Godzilla's way to find openings. Very nice work.
I love that the models look and feel so cartoony, but you know how to choreograph a legit no-holds barred kaiju brawl. Throwing in some strings on Ghidorah is such a cute little touch too!

I like how Godzilla attacks the middle head of King Ghidorah to make sure that the leader won't be able to help regenerate the other heads when torn off.
Amazing how we can see that Godzilla is trying to reach the middle head and the others are trying to avoid him. A really fantastic job.

Every detail from the zoom in on Godzilla's dorsal spines glowing, to Ghidorah's threads connected to there heads was by far the best thing I've seen from this creator so far. Can't wait to see the rest of it.
