funny thing about peasoup, Thursday being a peasoup day was so ingrained on one of my older relatives life that when they were in the army and it was skipped for one Thursday he filed a complaint about it. also schools and army both regardless of current budget always offer pancakes on peasoup days, no clue why but even the most underfunded school i ever went to had them
One notable stereotypical image of Finns is that all Finns are crazy about Hevi Metall, don't talk at all and drink a lot of vodka, when in reality most Finns listen to commercial pop, drink a liter of coffee per a day, and we like to talk eternal conversations ("vatuloida", "vatvoa", "velloa") instead of short small talk. Hevi culture is one of the subcultures of Finnish music, but it has a huge visibility in how Finland is marketed and branded in other countries. But I have no any idea that where the idea that Finns always drink a lot of vodka has come from and why we still want to stick to that image.
Well....It comes from your "friendly little sister" Estonia, who sees lots of Finns either drunk on street or walking back to ship with ship-container full of cheap alcohol. But we love you still.
For anyone wondering, the Finnish at the end in the Skyrim clip is _"What the fuck is the meaning of this?"_ and is said by the same bearded fellow as just before (Finnish UA-camr niilo22), implying he passed out from drinking too much and ended up somewhere unexpected :D
I lived in other countries and Finland has really a little corruption. A lot of cases like Jari Aarnio in other countries, but these ppl are protected and never get cought. All The media is silent of them. Let us not underestimate Finland The studies told 2022 the least corrupted countries are Finland, Denmark and New- Zealand.
Yeah. One of the reasons why the Aarnio case was so shocking and got so much coverage was because cases of that magnitude are almost unheard of in Finland. It's very rare that corruption cases of that level happen here.
@@georgiosgiannoukas3319 Could just be that they don't get caught, who knows how long corruption has been going on in the KRP. Maybe the guy before Jari Aarnio was the leader of even bigger drug cartel, but just didn't get caught.
It is suspected that Finland will pay silent money to maintain the "least corruption" status. But I don't know if it's true or just a rumor because I haven’t found any research on it. But if that were true it would be paradoxical.
@@danielmalinen6337 Politicians are paid so well there is no that much need for corruption. So in a way the corruption money is included in the salary.
@@danielmalinen6337 That makes no sense. If "least corrupted" status was achieved by bribing, why would tiny Finland spend more money on bribing than big countries like USA or China?
the definition of corruption probably means something like how common is it to give cash to someone to get what you want. here it is called 'suhteet' (relations), what makes things go your way., also the knowledge of 'what strings to pull', as we say, will take you further than what average people can get. There is also cartels in Finland. Idk if this falls under 'corruption', but... it is really about how one defines 'corruption'.
Exactly. How corruption is dealt with is also a part of the corruption ranking. There are always people who are willing to indulge in corruption, but what matters is how it's met with.
when we took part in the pisa test in 9th grade i accidentally crashed the program and the computer and the teacher got angry and made me sit outside. edit: also ive never had peasoup and pancakes at school.
Man, the school food in Estonia is free for students, but it tastes like sewage most of the time. The portions are extremely small, because the price of each meal is like 1.3€
Sounds amazing, the price of each meal in my finnish city is 83 cents becquse they cut 10% of the fucking funding. The company that makes the food, Arkea, is one of the lowest rated companies in Finland, below 1,5 stars.
@@The_SD_Economist Well, in my school we at least get to choose the meal we want, but the choice is garbage. Every second meal has fish in it and it tastes shit. Every second day we have only soup to choose from. A lot of food goes to waste, if you can call that food There was a small scandal, that in order to win the right to supply school food (Tallinn), you had to set price for each meal on paper to 0.01€. Because of this, every supplier set the price to 1 cent and the company was chosen randomly
Our school lunch was €0,38 per person. It was considered the worst school "food" in the country in an investigative tv program about school food. I can agree with the result, I had lunch in a neighbouring town and it was like coming to heaven in terms of food and they considered their food bad. Our "boiled" potatoes could be used as weapons. The first year in school the food was awesome because they cooked the food at the school, then it became centralised as to cut costs. The TV program concluded that a small can of cat food was many times more nutritious than a full meal of school "food". My classmates that had eaten cat food also concluded that it was way better tasting than the school "food"! And the truth is, even with €0,38 per person we could make a lot better food in "domestic science", but I suspect that €0,38 also had to cover salaries of the staff considering how bad the food was. But at least we got free food, even if it's debatable if it could legally be called that.
I must also say, as a brazilian, that the food comparison pic is BS. You're never gonna find a meal that posh in any school, private or public. We do get good meals for cheap in public university (Thankfully mine is the cheapest and I get to mock other universities for that) but it's often white rice, beans, a piece of meat and some salad, none of that elaborate stuff you see in the pic.
3:02 Many of these things that used to work very well have been systematically destroyed as the years have gone by. The education system is a prime example of this, I have never nor will I ever understand the obsessive need to implement drastic changes to something that clearly works. If things keep on going the way they are, we can kiss goodbye to the well faring developed Finland that we still know today. Another symptom of our falling little utopia is national debt, we have fallen from the level of other Nordic countries to the level of the Baltics and very soon to be surpassed by Estonia. Good times indeed.
Me as a foreigner in Finland, I'm from middle europe, think that the alcohol consume in Finland is enormously. Finnish people drink so much, yes, mostly on weekends, but many during the days too. So many drunken people, in winter, you hear them inside the building, in summer it's outside, when they scream around in the night
What have changed since we were at the top is that the PARENTS involve themselves into the child's life waay too much. Like if your kid sucks at math then he sucks at math, but parents calls the teachers and ask "how could you give my child a such bad grade, my child really tried". Like if the kid sucks it doesn't matter how much he tried. Instead as a parent you should take that as "ok I have to teach my child so that he can catch up". But its easier to blame the teacher for being a bad one. Then back when we got that score kids went themselves to stuff like football training... maybe hockey players got a ride because of the big bag but I doubt it. We had to plan our day, today its the parents that plan it for them and almost forces em to go to a practice. Then to the 2nd thing that has changed is our good friend the computer and internet. Like if you gain a certain amount of knowledge per day the chance of gaining false or "will not ever need it in my whole life" is huge. Like kids watch tiktok and what do they learn "This is how you should jump on rail to crack your balls". Yes fun has always been there but not in the same amount, even kids shows tried to teach you something back in the day and today they teach you that if you are not looking like this or that you are a failure in life. Today's parents are being stupid. I don't mean they lack intelligence, they lack common sense. Entertainment is only about unusable information and some of it even teaches you that school is not important. Important to know that this doesn't include everyone and these examples could be out of place for some. My point is that 90% of it is the parents fault, 5% our leaders and 5% our teachers. (% are there to show who has the most power to affect the current situation)
Peasoup... Veg... what?? Proper peasoup does have meat in it! Not much, but for the taste. Just check the cans on the grocery store. Even schools back when I was there 20 years ago weren't that cheap to not add bit of pork in it.
Finland be like "oh no, we have a lack of x workers" but then the doctor union reduces the amount of people that can get chosen for studying for the career because the union wanted bigger paychecks. Sometimes unions are counterintuitive and might not even represent their workers well

As a spanish person who has moved into finland 2 years ago, i still cant get used to the personal space thingy, like- why cant i just run to you and hug you? 😭
@Petri Jokinen 😭
Your videos are informative and yet so funny! 😂 I have one special person from Finland and knowing more about Finland, the more I become curious and would like to visit your wonderful country in the future. Hope you get more subscribers. ☺️
Thank you for that video! I learned so much with this
As a finninsh person, im so happy that somebody was going to tell people that finland is not exactly what it looks like.
Loistavaa settiä jälleen kerran 👌😎
funny thing about peasoup, Thursday being a peasoup day was so ingrained on one of my older relatives life that when they were in the army and it was skipped for one Thursday he filed a complaint about it.
also schools and army both regardless of current budget always offer pancakes on peasoup days, no clue why but even the most underfunded school i ever went to had them
Jeebus perkele I need to sub, Pavosen heska!
I love this channel
Guud work again!
Good video, thanks! 👍👏👏
For anyone wondering, the Finnish at the end in the Skyrim clip is _"What the fuck is the meaning of this?"_ and is said by the same bearded fellow as just before (Finnish UA-camr niilo22), implying he passed out from drinking too much and ended up somewhere unexpected :D
vitu hyvää kontentia
kiitos!
hyvä video as always
The ending
where is that raakaa lihaa perkele at 4:13 from?
Nää on tosi hyviä videoita
I lived in other countries and Finland has really a little corruption. A lot of cases like Jari Aarnio in other countries, but these ppl are protected and never get cought. All The media is silent of them. Let us not underestimate Finland
The studies told 2022 the least corrupted countries are Finland, Denmark and New- Zealand.
This whole video is "Well you're wrong because you're only 98% right!"
Marvelous! ✨
That clip from vain kuolema is my all time favorite 🤣
Corruption exists everywhere.... that's obvious... but in relative terms Finland is very uncorrupt....
It is suspected that Finland will pay silent money to maintain the "least corruption" status. But I don't know if it's true or just a rumor because I haven’t found any research on it. But if that were true it would be paradoxical.
Or as one show host put it: "Our corruption rates are bad but not quite as bad as everyone else's aka we're the best" (or something along those lines)
At least Aarnio got caught. In the other countries these type of ppl never get cought.
Media is saying nothing .
Exactly. How corruption is dealt with is also a part of the corruption ranking. There are always people who are willing to indulge in corruption, but what matters is how it's met with.
Never change that outro!😂👌
when we took part in the pisa test in 9th grade i accidentally crashed the program and the computer and the teacher got angry and made me sit outside.
edit: also ive never had peasoup and pancakes at school.
Your videos remind me of internet historian's videos
He is one of my favourites
On hauskaa nähdä kun muut sanoo asioita Suomesta jotka eivät pidä paikkaansa:D
Man, the school food in Estonia is free for students, but it tastes like sewage most of the time. The portions are extremely small, because the price of each meal is like 1.3€
We have free food for students too. And yeah its sometimes shit.
A lot of food goes to waste, if you can call that food
There was a small scandal, that in order to win the right to supply school food (Tallinn), you had to set price for each meal on paper to 0.01€. Because of this, every supplier set the price to 1 cent and the company was chosen randomly
@@The_SD_Economist *cries in uni and paying for my lunch*
2.90 and its as bad as the free food in highschool.
The amount of homework that you will get just depends what kind of teacher you have .
pisa scores have been going down when they changed the minister and class sizes got increased and more self study at grade 3 onwards
This shit actually 5/5
Will you do a video on Hungary?
-Swedish class
-Have low expectations
-"Småprat" in a cheery monotone textbook voice
-Ei helvetti
That Rucka Rucka drop was perfect, you Fins are alright in my book!
very nice
ihan mahtava :DDD
Wait how you have almost 10k subscribers!?!?
I have been wondering about the same thing
Huh löytyy jo sponsoreitaki👌kova meno
You have the strongest Finnish accent I have ever heard
It has a name: " Rally English".
Can you make a video on Simo Häyhä?
He wasn't the only Finnish sniper at the time, but he was in the right spot to become a legend.
1:42 not exactly. Some website use https which encrypts the connection between you and the server.
@Petri Jokinen ei kiitos
True and it should be eaten with mustard
@@user-ls1bw2uw1j Uh... I don't like mustard in it. Mustard is for sausages only.
But some do.

Finland be like "oh no, we have a lack of x workers" but then the doctor union reduces the amount of people that can get chosen for studying for the career because the union wanted bigger paychecks. Sometimes unions are counterintuitive and might not even represent their workers well
Onnea sponsorista!
What did the dragonborn respond in the end?
It could be translated something like "What the f* is going on?"
