I used to play this as college radio DJ on WHRW-Binghamton back in 79-81 and the phone console would light up with listeners asking “who is playing this amazing version” … I still revisit and enjoy immensely
I was in the habit of picking up those reduced price "cutout" albums back in the day, and this Pete Carr was one of my all-time best hidden gems. How sad to learn he passed away 2 weeks ago. Knockin' On Heaven's Door was on my cruising mixtape in the 80s. I could drive from my house to work in the time it took for this awesome version to play. If I somehow made it to work early, I'd stay in the car until the song ended; someone posted on Imgur yesterday that they would listen to any song we felt he should hear, and I suggested this one . RIP Pete, and thanks for the memories.
He was and is absolutely awesome....met him years ago...friends with his brother! They took my husband to the recording studio and let my husband sing....god bless him. My husband passed in August of this year but that meant the world to him....we have a copy of the tape...so enjoy listening to it!
@@angroberts5533 So sorry to hear about his passing. Around 20 years ago he helped me with some computer questions and issues I was having and was so very kind. I saw him backup a singer songwriter on guitar here in Florence a number of years ago and he was incredible. What a talent and such a nice and humble man. This town will never see a guitarist again like Pete Carr.
rawblues yes he was a very nice man and helped people when he could. As a kid I’d be so excited when he came home to Daytona after being on the road or in Alabama. I can pick out his guitar playing in just about any song. He just had something so special. I’m very sad he’s gone but so happy people know his work and will live forever for that. Thank you for the kind words. I know my Aunt is very heartbroken and I know she knows he’s always gonna be with us. 💙
I heard and watched this track for several times in different years at channel here. It’s great seeing that more of people have known and liked Pete’s version. Keep on share to all music lovers that you know.❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
I've enjoyed this song since it came out in the late 1970's. But haven't heard it in a long while. So nice to be able to hear it again! My favorite version of this song.
My friend - who is not a musician but has a good ear - texted me today saying the intro of Bob Seger's "Mainstreet" & "Knocking..." are similar. They are, 3 of 4 chords in common in a bit different order. I sent the link to this back to him as a "connection" since Pete played on the LP "Night Moves". Pete just tears it up here...a clinic & a lesson. BTW - don't know where were at on the music stores & streaming on this one but I don't recall either of his two solo LP's being on a big label, so that may be or may have been an issue.
Shocking! Had to buy my first album and turntable in 35 years to get this song. Totally worth it. So many versions of this song, so many good versions, but Mr. Carr did it best and right. Just when you think it can't get any better, Mr. Carr brings it up...and then up again. Why didn't radio play this??
I picked this album up in Alaska back in '84 or so. Was always impressed with this song. Completely forgot about if for the last decade, and so glad to revisit it tonight! What a great rendition!
Holy smoke, what! Why have I never heard this wonderful version. Who's Pete Carr, Wow wow. Straight to my soul with magical bliss. Can someone point me to a live version?
The best version for me is Pete"s. I've been searching high and low for the album Multiple Flash everywhere, not even on Spotify. whoever posted this, thanks a lot. Can we have the entire uploaded. BTW you have great musical taste
I no longer have this lp. Does anyone recall who was the second guitarist? Or was that overdubbed later? There are fills early on and then around the 7 minute mark double leads.
Played it at his funeral today. It was perfect.
Very fitting that was played at his funeral
I miss you Uncle Pete!!!
RIP, brother Carr. You did good.

Wow! Pete Carr… the best session guitarist to ever step foot in Muscle Shoals. Then and now.
I've been looking for this for about 25years. now.THANK YOU SOOO VERY MUCH!
rawblues yep
He was my Uncle. We just lost him a few weeks ago. He was an awesome Uncle and I’m proud to be his niece. What a great man

And this was recorded live in a radio studio. Only one take needed. Pretty damn impressive.
WEBN 5th Floor Studio, Cincinnati, OH 1976 - Just learned that today.
Love Petes superb version , still got my original vinyl , great memories , he can make that guitar talk !
I picked this album up in Alaska back in '84 or so. Was always impressed with this song. Completely forgot about if for the last decade, and so glad to revisit it tonight! What a great rendition!
Me too!!I have been searching Pete Carr Above 20 Years.正正正正正正!!!!
Both Pete and GnR cover versions of this Dylan song are excellent, fantastic, the best of the best.
Fantastisch ! Einer meiner Lieblings Songs in den 70ern.Danke
Best version ever
Steve Galvez yes sir. Truly amazing version. I’ve thought so for over 30 years. It’s a shame that it’s not widely known.
Steve Galvez .... i concur.
except GNR
still the best version i have ever heard.... used to play this frequently on kteq, my college radio station, back in the 80’s.....
Holy smoke, what! Why have I never heard this wonderful version. Who's Pete Carr, Wow wow. Straight to my soul with magical bliss. Can someone point me to a live version?
This is a live version. I doubt any video ever existed. It was recorded for a radio station live broadcast, WEBN in 1976.
Best version ever. We wore it out. Many air guitarists performing at once. Late 70s memories.
BEST version ever!
So great!
The best! Hello Nashville and the world.
I really liked his work on Sailcat's album - Motorcycle Mama 1972.
Want a treat? Listen to Pete's solo on Barbara Streisand's song MAKE IT LIKE A MEMORY starting at 3:18.You can thank me later lol.

The album "Not a word on it " was all it took for me to be convinced that he was the real deal!
I would love to have this on my iPod can't find it not on iTune or Amazon.
I can't find it on Spotify either.
un chitarrista straordinario il Flusso della vita
I would love to have this on my iPod it's not on iTunes

mervyn koh got the original vinyl , , superb version , luv it , !
I no longer have this lp. Does anyone recall who was the second guitarist? Or was that overdubbed later? There are fills early on and then around the 7 minute mark double leads.
Mike, Lenny Le Blanc is listed as playing rhythm guitar on the album cover so I would guess the overdubs are Pete.
una chitarra un sogno
4:01 strange there.
That’s one of them “multiple flashes “.
really...............a dislike???
I have this record for sale if anyone is interested 💜
Not as good as Dylan's but way better than GnR.
Dylan never created nothing like this plugged in or not. This dude sings throwaway lyrics and then cuts the woods.
