J10 WORK, Tear Down of The Sterling 10.5 Rear Axle

- Gotta get this thing moving! Rear axle is the only thing preventing me from being able to drive it around, so this is where we will start! Sterling 10.5 tear down! Lets get it ready for regear, truss, locker and new brackets!
Should I do it right? gear it for 5.13 and selectable locker right away? Of 4.88 on a selectable and have it ready to Offroad sooner?
ENJOY
Take your time. Do it right.
I know that’s what I should do…… but am I strong enough to do it 😂
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD yep. You can do it!
Big dreams!!
Freight Harbor rubber mallet for the win!
Hell yea, lol 😂lot of harbor freight tools in this garage
that brake shoe is a parking brake. That thing already has the bracket for disc brakes
Was laughing the whole time lol “drum brakes”😆
dude this is a great build series you have going. love it! gear to 5.13 for the end game. save the money and do it once!
A lot of work I want to get done… want this to be a long term wheeler. Don’t want to be chasing problem after problem
That AAM 11.5 in my power wagon.. damn.. indestructible
Hoping this will fit the same bill
A video?! Hells yeah!
🙌🙌😂🙌🙌
What a good start
Decisions decisions
If you set it up now to wheel you will not change anything till something breaks or next summer. The best choice is ---- next video I'm assuming you'll have an idea.
😂😂😂 solid advise brother 😂
Lugnut 4x4 disc brake kits are on point
Between that one and ruff stuff kit
The bracket that was removed is the caliper bracket. That's a factory disc brake axle
If used lugnut 4x4 a few times they are on point and ship fast they never let me down they will send a cross with your order they are a Christian company
Just got your jeep in the shop!
1 previous owner, lightly driven 😂
Good video
This is what I was doing the whole time I was in New York for my brother on his Jeep crawler. 🤙
How that project turn out??
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD still in the works. He's wanting to much going to be a while till it's finished.
Feel like mine will be the same… I’m guessing 2 years. To have it rock crawler ing ready
I would put in the 5:13 and keep moving to the ultimate end goal. When you look back, you will be glad you did.
Yea… I think you are right….
I would go 5.13 out of the gate, if you take the short cut it will cost you more money in the long run.. Unless Misty is planting Money trees in the backyard :) This will be a fun build, keep the momentum and you will be wheeling it in no time.
May go a lil steeper in gears… 5.38 possibly? I just have so many things I wanna throw into this…
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD 5.38 will definitely help in keeping the gearing super low ratio for rocks if you are going 40in or larger. 5.13 is the lowest I would go personally.
4.88, 40s, and full send. It will be a very capable rig. Get it out on the road and trails as soon as you can and get all of the other bugs worked out first. Figure out what it can't do and how much more you'll have to spend to solve for it. Love the series, looking forward to more.
This build is going to be a lot of fun…. Time, sweat and blood… ❤️
Now that’s a workout 😅
Got ER done
Do the match the front. And get it Trail bound
I’m dying. I feel like I’m watching myself. 😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 misty couldn’t stop laughing at that part
4:88 and wheel it till Dana 44 break’s. LS power
🧐
do it once 5.13, and not 2 times 4.88 and then 513.
question : the j10 case was trimmed .
you seem to be good at bikes, motocross, crawler. What do you like most of the three?
I think you are right…. Just get it done the right way…..
Yes, previous owner bobbed the bed…. I’ll need to close up a few holes in it still.
Thts a hard one…. But if I had to pick… mountain biking…. Just so much more room to grow and do new things
I have a 10.5 and with axles removed diff full of gear oil and seal installed I get a preload of 20inch lbs consistently thought the 360 degrees. You think I need more pinion preload???
I replaced the seal and put the nut right back where it was. (I had market it.)
Does that seem too loose.
250k miles. I know I have to remove the ring gear and seal to do an exact preload measurement...
Tht should be the right preload.. just remember it’s rotational force, not torque.
I agree it seems low af, but that should be what you need it at
It's been a minute since I've seen you guy's
Where ya been?!
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD rapt up in my Gladiator........its addicting
Got Me a Mojave and It's So Much more than My JK
Do the 5:13 gears and locker now at the same time.
I agree…. Time to start working that overtine
What are the plans? Is it for restoration to wheel put in show competitions?
It’s gonna be my rock crawler
Its going to be when Heathen is not available... Who's kidding Misty not going to turn loose, heck I believe she got hers first.
😂 this is true… was the first JL in the state
Didn’t really get your comment about converting to disc brakes but that axle is a disc brake axle. Those shoes on there are the parking brake shoes. Didn’t want you to start cutting up the axle for no reason.
I checked the comments before I said the same as you. He will figure it out hopefully before he starts cutting parts

👆👆👆
Those kits are for the older sterling 10.25s that came with factory drum brakes. I’m 99% sure your axle is the newer ‘99+ sterling 10.50, which has factory disc brakes. But I could be wrong.
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD if you would like not to have some argument on your comment section I can take pictures of my almost daily driven F350 rear axle and show you the parts you need to complete the factory break assembly. Also I can provide you places in your area very local to you to get said parts and save $$$ on those missing parts
Lol, not arguing brother. Please send it! 😂
We think the same oonga boonga.
🦧 strong together
Slow and easy go 513 and enjoy it don’t do something that your going to kick your self for!
Sound advice!
4:88 and wheel it. 🤟😎
That would be quicker lol
How do you like that impact?
Best damn investment Iv ever made
5.13s even if longer time and $ with you going to 40s...
Just happy wife happy life Misty to borrow Heathen....
Heathen is mistys 😂
Nice beard!😂
😒
Yo Mo how are you man 😊
Great! And you?
Bro, just build the rear to your end plan, and take out the front driveshaft. That way you can at least drive it. Waste of money to gear the same axle twice. Playing with tons makes those 44's seem little, don't it??🤣🤣🤣🤣🤘🏻
Lol, I’m this will be badass when I’m done… sad thing being done may be 2-3 years out.
Linking front and rear… engine swap… want to slap in a better transmission… better tcase… lockers….. I think I’ll run leaf springs for now… get the axles where I want them… link em when I can get access to an actual lift rather then Jack stands in my garage.
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD I get it, bro. Grunt been in the garage since April. We EXPECTED to be done by 1st of August. Here we are in Oct. But, it won't be too much longer now! Just set your plan and don't get impatient!! If you need a "fix", I'm sure Misty will let you drive Heathen to the mall!😉🤘🏻
😂
Just thinking of when it’s done
@@JLLIFEOFFROAD Looking forward to seeing it done!
City folks that live around are like you're destroying your driveway/concrete. I HATE close neighbors.
😂 my close neighbors love us
Down the block…. Welllllll 😂
488 a do ya
I do want to slap 40s in
As Moe's going 40's that comes into play.
My buddies j truck on 39.5 reds 456 gears runs down high way on the regular 40s fine with no issues
Well that shit didn't work lol
😂 I noticed, needed some thinking time 😂
