Coming back to this in November 2022. This 2009 event was my fourth Correspondents Dinner on C-SPAN. I watched it and the previous, sporadic three to check out how the comedians did (Al Franken in '96, Jay Leno in 2004, Craig Ferguson in 2008). After Obama's piece, I became more interested in what the President would say, and watched each year until he left the White House. The Obama years were a kind of 'golden age' for this event, and I'm sure the people who get those invites and actually attend will testify to that. The recordings are still fun to watch all these years later.

the United States began to decline after George W. Bush left office. Some common criticisms of his presidency include the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, economic downturn, and the 2008 financial crisis. Additionally, the implementation of policies like the USA Patriot Act, which was passed shortly after the September 11 attacks, has been criticized for its impact on civil liberties.

If you look at the national debt, they were all contributed by Republican adminsitrations. The difference with Democrats and Republcians is that Democrats spends alot domestically, but domestic spending boosts the overall U.S economy. Republicans give large tax cuts & have large military spendings. So cut hte crap about Republicans & saving the U.S because hte debt problem has awlays been a problem created by Republicans. National Debt since Reagan skyrocketed because of the flawed reaganomics.
