This is what my dream apartment would be like. Not too large, in a historic building with lots of character, full of mementoes reminding me of my time on earth. I'm a sucker for nostalgia. I'm happy for people who like minimalism but it really isn't my cup of tea. I like to surround myself with joyful chaos that inspires me.

I find these homes filed with mementos and culture, so infused with the owners personality so much more beautifull and welcoming than the modern homes that are empty and white and beige, no books on the shelves just "aesthetic" decor and those dumb beads

I suggest you look up “Hamish Bowles - Vintage Bowles” if you haven’t already, he did a series on UA-cam for vogue 10 years ago where he would go to thrift stores in Europe and talk about his findings. Its so sad it got axed.
I don't think I knew Hamish until I watched the live metGala coverage this year. Now I'm obsessed. He's so well spoken and has such interesting, intelligent things to say.

I just adore Hamish; so glad he shared his gorgeous space before leaving NYC. The Vogue in the 1990s podcast hosted by him is exceptional.

When he laughs, I laugh. When he smiles, I smile. Lol, he is so adorable and unique. He's such refreshing to the eyes. Hope, Vogue you will keep on covering stories and lives like Mr. Hamish Bowles.
That was fun to watch. When I was a kid growing up in NYC, it was packed with men like Hamish. Men with exquisite taste, who were quirky and intelligent and refined because they educated themselves in the arts. We have lost so much in our connection to why aesthetic works and how one celebrates their own joys it makes me sad. I do not think we will ever comprehend what both AIDS and Vapid Celebrity has cost us as a culture
He’s adorable and humble men with a unique sense of style that we rarely see these days. Hate those stupid boring minimalist or modern deco theme. This place has a character and feels warm and welcoming

Yessssss I LOVE homes overflowing with personality. Curated bits and bobs, books, textures, lighting, layers. The "chaos" is much more warmth, and nooks to get lost into. Absolutely beautiful.

Sensory deprivation tank - spot on! I love stories like these - of real people with character who make their living space their own, instead of the nouveau riche (athletes, youtubers, Tiktokers, you name it) and their ridiculous mansions.

I have fallen utterly and completely in love with this man. The way he talks with so much wisdom and reverence about the people he admires, the things he's experienced. How his hands seem to want to caress everything he shows off (and often do!).
I love homes where every item is waiting for its story to be told, and god does he have some stories for his things!

PS= Please stop uploading videos that have uneccessary affectations like constant wobbling of the frame for 'realness' and 'intimacy'-- it reeks of film studies student earnestness and is incredibly distracting.

As soon as I saw the portrait of Truman Capote in the opening scan of the apartment, I knew who it was. The portait is a play off the famous photograph that graces his debut novel 'Other Voices, Other Rooms.' And of course, I love the story that is told. Especially as it pivots around the narrative pun...of Truman Capote...getting 'nailed'...not once but twice...in that apartment.
This could be a series! Wonderful and leaves me wanting much more!

Wow! The Truman Capote story gave me chills...was it really Jack D's apartment? Amazing. Just wanted to say that Vogue is losing a fabulous story teller and writer but I am sure they know that. I have read many of Hamish's Vogue articles through-out the years and have enjoyed each and every one! Good luck Hamish!☘️☘️🍀🍀

I have read Hamish Bowles articles in Vogue for years. This video is a wonderful snapshot into learning more about him. The story about Truman Capote picture is incredible.

Not only Hamish is true gentleman and a dandy he also was the one whose passion and intelligence truly shined through every single word he ever wrote for the publication. In Wintour-era Vogue there were only two people who were writing magnificent pieces so brilliantly and knowingly - and it’s Hamish (on fashion/history/design) and Jonathan Van Meter (with his excellence in profiling famous people)
He should leave that last portrait for the next person!

This apartment is exactly what I dream about since I was 8, a lot of stuff but with so many good books and art collections.
Love, love, love Hamish’s abode….must be like being in a very stimulating illustrated book of short stories when you’re in it….with all those chic objets ….must be nostalgic……I also love the music score especially the piano ❤️❤️❤️
