Thanks, I will probably do something like that in the future. For now, this video discusses some essential compositional elements and ideas: ua-cam.com/video/9fknSkyN6_0/v-deo.html
My folks bought me a little backpack with an integrated stool for my plein air shenanigans which is brilliant although it looks like I also need a cool hat.
your strokes look so random yet cohesive and attractive ... I want to learn to paint this way and not be too bogged down by form and details. Thanks for the inspiration.
My favorite part of watercolors is how it brings out your artistic instinct. I do digital art but I'm awful at it, I think it's because I have a million chances to get it right, unlike watercolor; the way watercolor is unforgiving really forces out my best qualities and instincts. I've been nervous to do plein airs, but you're convincing me how important it is for shape language/expressive painting and to not afraid, thank you for this video! (:
Marco, i feel obligated to say that your content is definitly one of the best art material of the internet. So didatic, well done and polished. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks! That's another reason I really like watercolour: you have to kind of anticipate the next steps. Set things up at the start for later payoff. Keeps you on your toes.
Marco Bucci bit late coming back to this, but would you reccomend watercolor to beginig painters? I have a watercolor set already, but im tempted to get a travel gouache set instead so I dont have to work around watercolors properties while im rrying to make quick paintings.
Yeah, I think if you're just starting out, watercolor probably isn't the best medium to be using. Its high demands might distract you from the practice of solid fundamentals, which is where you want to focus if you're a beginning painter. Gouache is generally a better medium for control, and a good choice for beginners. That being said, I don't think you should outright avoid using watercolor either. Give it a shot every now and then, and get used to how different mediums react. Also, the nice thing about gouache is that you can try transparent approaches with it (like watercolor) or more opaque approaches (like acrylic & oil). Good luck!
Marco Bucci thanks for the quick response. Ive probably got enough room to just get a small set of gouache and bring it with my watercolor set to give myself the option to do a bit of both. In that case, do you know if I would need to match the brands, as in windsor and newton watercolor to windsor and newton gouache? I only started painting earlier this year, but I was suprised to find I enjoy it more than drawing, so itll be nice to have a good portable setup to get some practice in on the go.
thanx sir ur better than my college teachers what they couldn't teach me in two years ur tutorials thought me in two week. keep making videos and keep teaching students like us who crave to learn.
Greats words Marco. "And remember painting is a language. It's a visual language. Just like verbal language it needs structure to communicate." During my travels and daily life I like to keep words that have meaning to me and these I will hold close.
This was my first video with you. Loved it. Going to Europe for a few months in two weeks and plan to do a lot of painting. The reminder of cool and warm being so important was just what I needed along with shapes. I tend to get down in the weeds too often. Thanks.
I was literally in Marrakech last spring, but I didn't know how to just draw things like this, I am so gutted that I didn't find this video before I went, because there were so many beautiful places in Morocco
Marco, you are so wonderfully articulate and concise in your instruction. Such a great teacher! Really appreciate your entire artistic process, including the video production special effects! Very inspirational!
A very articulate and instructional narrative and beautiful work. I really appreciate the freedom you express and like the fact you paint by color temperature rather than tube labels.
You holding up the sketchbook demonstrating the process was so cool and had some very informative tips. Very nice editing and video I always look forward to your videos.
I've seen all your 10 minutes to better painting videos, and those have made me realize a lot of things and improve a LOTTT since that. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge and taking your time to make interesting videos with dynamics to help us undestand better how art is done. Also I really like your art :) greetings from mexico!
Thanks Marco! This studio watercolor artist is learning so much from your videos. You are helping me to utilize real life as a subject versus photos. I really enjoy your teaching style!
Of all the water color instructors I follow you teach me the most in the shortest amount of time. I always look forward to ur videos man. Keep this up please
Yo the layout of this video is so fucking good and the part where you broke down the painting with the photoshop below was fantastic. More videos like this pleeeeeaaassseee
I plan to do this everyday of my two weeks in Japan. I will be doing pencil only, but these techniques will help me sketch quickly to capture a moment. Thank you for the insite.
I love these sketching videos with watercolour so much. Your work is awesome and I really appreciate how well you break it all down and explain it. Thank you so much and please keep them coming!
Seeing your watercolour sketches had inspired me to be more brave and learn watercolour despite my timidity with traditional media. This video was a well-needed booster for it. Thank you!!!
Incredible video and narration. Both entertaining and educating. Gave me a Bourdain feel in some parts of the narration. Thanks a lot for the insights and the push for me to create my videos too.
Its amazimg to watch you doing the painting in real life. Its so helpful of your very details explaination. I amazed by the colours you mix and how the 3 size shapes makeup the painting nicely. Your words are very encourage as well. Thanks for sharing.
The color is always so amazing in your paintings, and I don't say this as a cop out. Even with the painting being pretty much abstract the color captures the place really well.
WOWEee!!! A fantastic show as always, you never fail to amaze. I don't think I'll ever get tired of watching your videos. The outstanding production quality of your movies magnifies the entertainment value. I really do appreciate the behind the scenes effort that you must put into pulling these masterful videos together. Bravo, bravo!
Thank you so much for making this. I have learned sooo much! Especially how simple a painting starts and how to make it more complete. I will practice!
Thank YOU thank you THANK you!! This video was so informative, and made me feel more free to engage my painting without worrying too much about imperfections.
X-Cell-Ent! I really enjoyed this video. You have reinforced some of my ideas...If you don't like a bush! Put a Truck in front of it. Don't want a dumpster in the middle of your painting...leave it out...If you want it to look like a photograph...uses your cell phone and take a picture! I keep telling myself "it's a painting, and paint what I feel"...besides it always looks better when you are far way in time and distance from where you painted it.
Your arts have so strong air-feeling! I love the way you play with paint density and color warmness. This is trully inspiring! I want to try capture this filling in my sketches
Hi Marco, I am brand new to painting. At fist I was like, Why not just take a pic of the scene? But now I get it. Thank you. In a few years my husband and I are going to be traveling the US in an RV and I hope to be able to paint like this. I like how you've made it so portable as I won't be able to carry many supplies.
Hi! So, I am only 0:35 into the video and I had to compliment your production quality. The intro was so good and the Marrakech transition sequence killed it! I am going to watch the rest now. Thanks!
Great videos! I've been learning watercolor after doing mainly black and white pencil or charcoal drawings, and it's nice to see how you paint so loosely... and your setup is so simple and portable I love it
Hi everyone - a full breakdown of my materials and setup is in this video: ua-cam.com/video/ldZBqywAt84/v-deo.html
Thanks, I will probably do something like that in the future. For now, this video discusses some essential compositional elements and ideas: ua-cam.com/video/9fknSkyN6_0/v-deo.html
Hey, Marco, could you explain what watercolors do u use
Marco Bucci i tried it! Have Send you a dm on insta! Big thanks to you!!
Winsor & Newton, mostly. A few other brands in there. My advice is to buy professional-grade stuff, not student-grade.
You don’t seem to wait for each area to dry, how do you not get nasty cauliflowers? Or is it just the editing
Working small doesn't force you to create a masterpiece.
Proceeds to create a masterpiece.
5:06 that motion tracking is so neat
Thanks - tons of fun to experiment with it!
same feelings here, I was like "woooaahh!, that's nice" :)
That is the first thing I was going to mention too. Really cool.
D'Angelo Wallace hey man! Ikr
Holy shit it’s Wallace-senpai
Oh wow. This video inspired me to go outside and paint. This is a big challenge for a lazy introvert such as myself 😂 Thank you so much!
Great to hear - thanks, Rose!
My folks bought me a little backpack with an integrated stool for my plein air shenanigans which is brilliant although it looks like I also need a cool hat.
I’m glad I watched this. I feel like I am to strict with my painting and just don’t go with a flow. I need to relax more and enjoy.
your strokes look so random yet cohesive and attractive ... I want to learn to paint this way and not be too bogged down by form and details. Thanks for the inspiration.
I'm not sure if you're sick of hearing this yet, but this is the best art channel on UA-cam

Thanks a lot!
your teaching techniques are really innovative! I loved the big/small shapes segment!
I'm happy about that, as I had to develop some new skills to pull that off visually :) Thanks!
Your art skills are amazing and your humor keeps me hooked! You explain everything so clearly. Thanks for making these videos.
Some may say this is a great art lesson, however it is more than that, you just bring an excellent English lesson to me. Great video, thanks :)
Most impressive part is how reckless the first wash of color looks, until you carve out the details and it begins to look thouroughly planned out
Thanks! That's another reason I really like watercolour: you have to kind of anticipate the next steps. Set things up at the start for later payoff. Keeps you on your toes.

You need to put more videos like that on UA-cam or you're not visible here 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
I am deeply in love with your whole style. I saw a thumbnail and had to click on it... I'm just amazed.

I plan to do this everyday of my two weeks in Japan. I will be doing pencil only, but these techniques will help me sketch quickly to capture a moment. Thank you for the insite.
I adore this series, it really helps bring me down and back to producing a looser and more representational visual language in my own work.
Great, keep traveling and uploading videos!
Thanks for posting this. I'm trying to get out more and plein air and I might try this smaller setup with sketch book and watercolor tray.
Thank you once again... I can't tell you how much i enjoy learning through your videos.
