If there's one concert that means the most to me up to this day, it's this next one on March 21st. I cannot explain how much it means to me to bring you along on my musical journey with Schumann. Each concert I play is another experience for me to learn more about a composer. I really hope you'll join in! 🙏❤️ bit.ly/3blOCsT
I just watched the 2nd youtube presentation of the intensive course for Robert Schumann by Tiffany Poon. Both presentations are remarkably interesting. I was motivated to find and read as much information as I could about Schumann. I have already begun to better understand his compositions. The course will last one month. I will not miss any presentation!
Love Schumann’s humour in taking the name of the person it is dedicated to (Abegg) and use it as the notes of the main theme! ( it seems like there is also some mistery around whether the “Countess” existed as such which is also very Schumanny ;) can’t wait for the concert!
I really appreciate the self-talk annotations you include with the practice. While I imagine all musicians do this subconsciously, seeing your train of thought has really given me the notion to actually pay attention to my own self talk while I practice. It gives more control and focus to the time I get to spend practicing, and to be honest....watching your frustrations, foibles and repeats reminds me that, regardless of the instrument, the joy in making music is often as much about the journey as it is the final destination.
I love this vlog, so relaxing. I also like that you introduce us to more Schumann! Thanks for exposing us to his music, I grow a liking at this new one I'm hearing.
Love the editing at the beginning and the end of this video, you truly stepped up your game! And the annotations along the way are precious as always :)
Lovely lovely piece! Thank you for taking me beyond Traumerei. This definitely piqued my interest regarding Schumann and his work and I will put in more time exploring his music. Interesting that I learned about the ‘Soirée’ actually BEFORE I watched this video of yours. Definitely plan to be there March 21st! Hope you feel better (you mentioned lethargic) and the hand heals fast.
My sound has returned. Your skill level is in clear evidence . I was offered 'Music making' in Wales , from a Musician some years ago. What a great offer !
Your dreamstage concert news is certainly the highlight of this weekend! AND you are playing Abegg! AND you are practicing the var that I struggled with the most - really helpful to see you thought process with your practice thank u! 🤓
This video is kind of like a group meeting of hobbyist and professional musicians while in some sort of deep dive into honing in their skill, whatever the instrument used to make sound may be. I love that you put in those minute details of Schuman's Letters while still commenting on your technique and sound ... this style conveys so deeply your mind, just thinking out loud - just fits.
Two videos in 3 days 🧐, didn't see that coming, but I'm not complaining. So I guess the laptop is working great now🎊. Day 10! Of telling Tiffany her uploads are appreciated!
It was very clear how much you enjoyed just playing the theme, beautifull to see :) Seemed like a productive little practice sesh! It's not hard to understand Schumann as ones favourite composer, with his great sense for the fantastic (in the old sense of the word) and his very emotionally charged music...
I love both Haskil and Weissenberg interperation of these beautiful Variations. Haskil is light, agile and quick... Weissenberg is louder and manly but both bring different wonders out of this piece. Out of curiosity, I'd like to hear you Tiffany actually play the whole piece.
Schumann is my favorite composer too! I love his Davidsbundlertanze the most. As a pianist, the fact that his music has so many characters and possibilities is what makes it so appealing to me. Curious to see your reasoning.
Herr Schumann is my favorite composer as well. I can’t help but feel a sort of kinship with all who hold him in that regard. Eagerly Looking forward to your concert!
Something i love equally as much as your beautiful piano playing, is your story telling, either verbally or in subtitles. Thank you Tiffany, can't wait for the next one!!
Thank you for sharing Schumann. I find that I have a different favorite piece depending on my mood, whimsical, , anxious, relaxed, anger, sad, humor, etc. There is so much variety in his music.🙂
When you quoted the except from Schumann's letter I knew I had to stick around 'til the very end. It's my favorite way of getting to know about composers, ever since I read the collection of Beethoven's letters (and today I started to read Tchaikovsky's biography, combined with his letters). To me, reading the composer's biography while listening to his music, further enhances the experience, although I had to control myself not to air conduct some of the more "epic" pieces (i.e. "Scene" from "Swan Lake" or the first movement of "Piano Concerto No. 1").
It's funny how I appreciate this music even more, seeing a "non-perfect" version of it. So refreshing to listen to some perfect parts, struggling, perfect parts again... such a nice format! Thanks so much! (:
@@TiffanyPoonpianist haha adorable you :) as a video maker/editor and piano player (sort of) I’m genuinely impressed by all the work you put in your videos and your talent as a musician. Have a great weekend :)
It always motivates me to practice myself, seeing you practice in your Vlogs. I've only played one piece from Schumann before (Aufschwung, from the Fantasy Pieces), but that was great fun. Guess it's time to start playing Schumann again :)
So many intriguing videos in such a short period of time. I'm fascinated by your passion for Schumann itself as much as by the ways you convey it to us. In your vlog on Schubert's op.107, accompanied by Schumann's adoration of it in his letter, you contribute to let us better understand Schumann through Schubert as well as Schubert through Schumann. Which again helps us understand - you! - as you allow us to follow your journey with Schumann specifically through your lense. It is this daring, original, unique access which makes your approach such a personal and intense experience. I'm extremely grateful for and appreciative of your immense efforts (the editing!) to let us be part of your journey in this most captivating way. On a side note: I'm ashamed to admit that I wasn't able to find out from which piece the quiet excerpt at the end is from (like in the last video on Schubert's op. 107). If anyone could let me know, I'd be rather grateful. Thanks in advance!
This is great! Love to see all the little things that you focus on to get a piece to a performance standard. I've been playing Moszkowski's op. 34 no. 1 waltz recently and my left hand was over stretching on a downward arpeggio (hitting an A instead of a B), so I can relate slightly to the difficulties you face.
Tiffany: Jan and I are also playing something together because you enjoyed our last duo performance :) Sold! I'm going to go buy a ticket now. Oh, wait. I bought one three days ago. (Thank you, Patreon membership:) If you didn't see the last Dreamstage with Tiffany & Jan, trust me you don't know what you missed. You'll want to get a ticket to this Dreamstage because there will be more Tiffany & Jan, plus a violin & viola added to the mix. It's sure to be a great show! Get your ticket before they're all gone. 😉 😄
I get what you said in your last video like a "Schuman phase" i used to get hooked on Mozarts sonatas and would just sight-read through them... i gave that the name of "Mozart syndrome" because most of my friends had the same thing happen to them
Dear Tiffany. I hope to see you in a worthy way again soon you can perform in front of a large classic works! It hurts to see that your art is limited to online space! But I still love watching your videos and I wish you a lot of success! I wrote with Google Translate, so I apologize if it's not appropriate in some places the translation! I wish you good luck!
hey Tiffany! Next time you get those cuts on your hands try "liquid bandage"... it stings for a minute then you are done :)... you can wash, play piano... etc. No more band aid.. and it will heal in half the time. I can hardly wait for the next concert, 'till then as many practice videos as you can throw at us, I can dig those :)
Tiffany love this video. I haven't played piano in nearly 15 years since I was a double major undergrad in 2007. This was the piece my best piano buddy used to warm up with and it brought back fond memories hearing you play it. One question..what do you mean by childish rubato? Isn't the innocence of a child often times the feeling a composer intends to convey
Lovely vlog as you are Tiffany! However could you please tell me which piece you play at the beginning of your vlog? That melody's stunning 😮 You inspired me a lot for retaking piano class after 8 years corrupted. I used to quit the piano as it was nightmare for me to play as my parents demanded. Now I can be friend with the piano freely and so much more open than before. Keeping that energy and I'm sure you are always loved.
note : I don't "know" Schumann, I may have listening to some pieces from him but I didn't pay attention) Watching your vlog made me want to experiment something. Let's give a try and find a piano piece to listen ... Thank you.

You most likely have discussed this before, but if you don't mind answering again, why is Schumann so dear to you? Cheers.
Tiffany, you sound so hard on yourself. Your playing is superlative.
Tiffany "bad first sight lecture" is a hundred times better that my own playing after a year 😕

Oh wow! _Fünf Stücke im Volkston_ , Op. 102 - one of my all-time favourite pieces since childhood! Happy to read you and Jan are playing this!
Such beautiful playing🥰 After I finish the video, I will practice piano! Thank you for being an inspiration😁❤

The piano sounds so cloudy i love it

Hi Tiffany watching from New Zealand...you are very inspiring and PRO on piano and vlogging.
I've never seen a world class pianist in pajamas. Makes me feel relaxed. Great playing.
i really like the moment that you are practising the piano and i am writing my essay. that is sth like time-travelling.

Nice video as the all Tiffany ` s videos . Nice .
So beautiful is the melody that I love it at once when I have listened to this piece the first time.
