This played in a small theatre in Toronto during early 70s every Friday and Saturday at midnight for two years ,always packed. What was amazing it was played in 16 track sound system , a truly amazing experience
Not even one of the best musical documentaries but one of the best documentaries period. It's a benchmark in Direct Cinema. The Maysles Brothers are the kings of documentary filmmaking.

@clickswitchh YEAH RIGHT??? Keith with that POS Lucite guitar... Should had his Tele. Love when Taylor comes in on that SG... @ 1:10. Love how Keef is always in Charlie's face... Meanwhile Wyman looks like he's board out of his head... lol
“It’s creating a sort of microcosmic society which sets an example to the rest of America as to how one can behave in large gatherings” (Mick Jagger). Yep, it sure did that.
Why did you cut out part of the movie at the end of Part 1 or beginning of Part 2. The KSAN guy made a very important point and you seem to have edited it out -- what would make you do that?
Yeah, Satisfaction started a little weak but I thought Keef pulled it together pretty well. I like how he changed the riffs of some of those earlier songs and made them a little funkier.
Screw filming the soloists! I wish they would simply film the entire BAND and let US decide who we want to watch! I am so tired of a generation of films characterized by lame 'quasi-psychedelic' camera FX and focusing only on who a few figured are the 'stars'.
Some industrious soul once when though Stones concert footage and added up all the distances he moved around the stage during a show. They say he runs an average of five miles during a two hour show.
WHERE IS THIS Legendary Punk guitarist Johnny Thunders is in the crowd during the Rolling Stones first performance. At Mick's line "Let's have a look at you New York", Johnny is the figure playing with his long black hair sitting on someone's shoulders.
Satisfaction was not out of tune. That is the way it always sounded in a non-studio setting. If you listen to "Got Live If You Want It," (1966) it sounds exactly the same. At that time they generally didn't have a dozen different guitars and bunch of different sound boxes to create all the effects that they had in studio.
+davess357 Or in other words, "the greatest rock band in the world" actually sucks live. I heard garage bands back in the day that sounded better. I'm a fan, but of the records, not the live performances -- with very few exceptions.
that was tayler n richerds and it was the best stont soud live I ever seen them it funny I can see my young bean head against the stage in this movie alot its funny to see yorself as a teen ager now.
Boy, you can tell they were listening to Otis' version, can't you! This sounds NOTHING like the single from '65. Keith is going for the choppy Steve Cropper sound rather than the big fat chords from the original. Mick doing the Otis-style "testifying" toward the end. Thanks for posting this-- I hadn't seen GS since its theatrical release over 40 years ago.
Sounds like they experimented playing guitars through Solid-State Ampeg amplifiers here briefly. Sounds "THIN". They bring the Tubed Marshalls & Fenders back rather quickly...
Well, maybe my statement was too strongly worded. I accept that they've sold millions of records wordwide, they've written great songs and I'm certainly not judging anybody who likes them but I find their recordings 'untight' (for want of a better word) in terms of timing/dynamics/tone and I'm not mad about Jagger's singing; not his voice but his singing. In a live context, fine, but I would have preferred their studio sound to be more polished. Question of taste, I guess! Still a great band.
Most cameramen recording live performances are like little girls, never focusing on what is really interesting, the musicians who are actually playing the solos.
@@jgwaltonIt doesn’t matter WHO does the filming, it matters WHAT they choose to showcase. (I guess it’s just too much to expect that filmmakers would have some knowledge of the playing of music…)
I enjoy the Rolling Stones music, but I came here for a documentary not a concert. That's why I disliked it, no hate intended. I had to say this so some kid wouldn't go "first dislike must be from (insert person)
Rolling Stones with Mick Taylor produced many of the band’s best songs
This concert must rate as one of the best of all time....period.........wish i had been there

"An example as to how people can behave in large gatherings". Wow, that didnt exactly turn out too well.
Yeah, I've read that Keith really liked Otis' version. Said it was closer to the way he originally wanted it.
@santanaincubus Ha! That is a perfect description!
i can't get no satisfaction
