    So sorry about the bell tents, I think you should get onto the people who make them, surely they should be stronger then that, stay positive, all will be fine down the line, stay well, stay safe, stay happy.🙏❤️🙂

      Thank you, LL! The tent maker did offer some concessions, but I ended up going with another manufacturer. The tent should be arriving in two days, and we are excited to try it out! Thanks again!

      Thanks, Denise! They initially offered to replace the floor, and then offered me a discount for a new tent, but the discount still would have had me paying $925 for a tent that I no longer felt safe in. I reached out to a different tent company, explaining my situation. They really helped me out, and I have a new tent on the way! After posting the video and ordering the new tent, WhiteDuck came back and offered a full replacement. So, they did step up, but I declined. I feel better about the strength and safety factor of the new tent. Thanks again, Denise!

      Hey there, Val. I had planned on doing a follow-up video on the response from the manufacturer, but life got in the way. After a bunch of back and forth, they did offer to replace it, but I declined. During the negotiations, they stated that their tents were not intended to be left unattended or used during high winds. Of course, that doesn't jive with what their sales material (website, videos, brochures) portrays, but whatever.
      I ended up going with a tent from Kodiak Canvas, and I absolutely love it! It's been up since October and has performed flawlessly. I'm about to take it down for the summer, and I hope to do a video of it before I break it down. You can check out our Instagram page to see us using it.

      Thanks! It's amazing that the bathhouse was untouched by the wind. It's just a Rubbermaid shell with a few screws holding it down. No tree damage, either. No worries, though. Thanks again for watching!

      Thanks, Roberta! WhiteDuck offered to help out in increasing steps, but I ultimately decided to get a tent from a different manufacturer. I think the new tent will be better at withstanding the elements, and it's one I will feel safer having the family in during pop-up weather events. Thanks again, my friend!

      @@OurNewLandI just bought the 20 foot Avalon. So is the wind a problem in these things? Last thing I want to do is fall asleep and catch some wind and wake up with 200 pounds of canvas smothering me. Did your center pole break in the wind? Now I’m scared to use mine 😳.

    • @OurNewLand
      @OurNewLand  5 місяців тому

      @@Kenkosh3 We bought two of the 20 foot Avalons at the same time, and have had repeated damage to both of them from wind. The side walls on these are taller than on other bell tents, and they really catch the wind. Before mine was destroyed, I kept having to replace the bungies that go between the tent loops at the top of the walls and the guy lines. My brother keeps having the same issue with his. Once one breaks, the wall becomes a sail to catch even more wind. Then another breaks a couple of minutes later, and the sail is even larger. The space in these bell tents is awesome, but I would never stay in one during a wind storm. My center pole did not break. Good luck with yours!

      @@OurNewLand im currently in mine now. It doesn’t leak, but the wind is pretty subtle. I wonder what would happen if I replaced the bungee’s with carebeaners. I’ll be in touch and let you know lol

    • @OurNewLand
      @OurNewLand  5 місяців тому

      @@Kenkosh3 I temporarily replaced 2 of the bungees with paracord while waiting to receive replacement bungees. One of them ended up ripping out the sewn-in loop it was attached to, so I would hold off on the carabiners. I'm sure you'll get great use out of yours, just be aware of the forecast.

  • @JonathanKuhn

    What a huge bummer! I wonder if it would have held up if you omitted the bungies. I have a 20ft (canvas camp) bell tent set up like this without bungies and it’s been rock solid through wild winds. It’s so hard to know with these things. Such a crushing feeling to see this happen.

    • @OurNewLand
      @OurNewLand  7 місяців тому

      Hey Jonathan!
      It was a huge bummer, to say the least. I lost quite a bit of gear in addition to the tent. While negotiating with White Duck, they said their tents are not intended to be left unattended. As you know, these huge tents are not the sort you would just put up on a Friday night with the family, only to take it down on Sunday. Far from it!
      They FINALLY offered to replace it, but I ended up going with a tent from Kodiak Canvas. It has been up on our platform since October, and we love it!

      Looking at your tent, the side walls are shorter on yours, and I think that makes it much more safe and secure. White Duck's side walls are tall, and they really catch the wind, much like a sail. Once those bungies break, it makes an even larger sail for the wind to push against.
      Thanks again for watching!

    Hi Devon, sorry to hear about the devastation to your tent. This video proves the destructive force of a wind storm. I wonder if maybe you had some type of Straight Line winds that came through or maybe a small Tornado came down quickly and went back up. Like you mentioned it is fortunate that, for both you and Ryan, only property and no human life was injured. Looking forward to your upcoming adoption videos. Today, with so much communication happening electronically, it is nice that you have actual penned letters to look back on and appreciate. For preservation, the new techniques are not always better than in the past.

    • @OurNewLand
      @OurNewLand  Рік тому

      Thanks a ton, Ben! It's amazing that the bathhouse wasn't affected at all. It's just a Rubbermaid shed held down to the platform with a few screws. Mother Nature is amazing!
      I can hardly wait to read the letters from my grandmothers! I had no idea they wrote to my birth mother. They were such wonderful people. It's going to be an emotional moment reading those. Thanks again!

      Hey Bex! WhiteDuck did offer some help, but not enough to make me risk staying in that style of tent again. Once I posted this video, they did turn around and offer a full replacement, but by then I had already ordered a new tent from a different company. The new tent company understood my situation, and they really helped me out. I'm excited to get the new tent! I'll definitely do some videos highlighting the differences between the two styles of tents, and I'll go over which one I prefer and why. Thanks again!

      I reached out to them right after it happened, sending them a link to our IG channel which showed pics of the damage. Initially, it was met with silence. I then uploaded the video, but kept it as Private. I sent the link to the video to them, and that got the ball moving. They initially offered to replace the floor, but I said that didn't help since the canvas was toast. They then offered to give me a 50% discount on a replacement, but that was still going to cost me over $900. So, I reached out to another tent manufacturer and explained my situation, and they totally hooked me up. I went back to WhiteDuck and said "thanks, but no thanks", and then they offered to replace the floor and canvas. I declined again, and posted the video to our channel. They then reached out and said they would replace the whole thing. I declined, of course, and I am eagerly awaiting the tent from the new manufacturer. I'm still out over $1000 from the damaged gear, but I'm that's how the ball bounces sometimes. I'll definitely post a follow-up video! Thanks for watching!
