I was really looking forward for them to come out with something like this. I've noticed that they've come out with really interesting things as of late (and crazy good value) and was wondering if they'd release at some point a F2 range of primes... glad to see that they did, and even happier to hear that it keeps up with the upward trend of the company. Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)
Eric I really enjoy your channel, you are like the everyday man of reviews. Most of this guys are so heavy on technical info and less on just GO SHOOT. I also think it's cool that you use your kids as models which is a nice change from brick walls or focus charts lol.
FYI - I just got a 'production' version of the Lens from China. It has the small focus tab and the larger one is included. (My first impression is the small one feels fine)
Thank you for the good review. I enjoyed watching it and I’m always curious about new M lenses. I must say I tried a few ttartisan and 7artisan lenses. They were not bad at all with some interesting characteristics but overall not on par with my Voigtlander lenses to my eyes. I spent so much on my Leica m body that I find the artisans lenses too much of a compromise for me.
Eric did you have to calibrate this lens before you used it on your leica ? one video a film user states it needed to be calibrated and its easy to do if you have a leica digital.
If someone can afford to spend between 6K to 9K for a Leica M body, why would they want to put a $300 dollar lens (no matter how good) to put on it? It would be like putting aftermarket seat covers from the Dollar Store after you purchased a Tesla.

Not everyone is shooting M digital. Not everyone buys new. Not everyone must have the absolute best and latest. As an example, at one point I've owned four M-mount bodies, and had a single Leica-made lens between them.
Always laugh about this kind of comment. The best lens is the one you like and use most. From my experience, it is often a less expensive M lens actually.
I plan to shoot it on a 70 years old analog Leica M3. So far it seems to be a great lens. If I had 9K for an M10 I'd probably also get a Leica 35mm f1.4 ASPH or something like that. But my name is not Rockefeller 😅

I forgot to say that I enjoyed your images, man. Very nice.

Thank you. I really appreciate that. However I think I want to get away from reviews and more into storytelling / blogs centered on photography.
Great review, thanks. Would love to see it compared to the $100 more expensive TTArtisan 35/2 APO.
Go check out Mr Leica. He just did a review on this lens and has comparisons to the TTArtisans
@@ericrjennings Thanks, will do!
Will try it on Fuji with a close focus adapter

I left the small one on too
Looks like a really nice lens, especially for the price.

I totally get it. That was my expectation here too but I was pleasantly surprised

I did not. Mine is fine out of the box
Distortion and purple is two clicks in Lightroom. But what about micro contrast?
Not a ton of micro contrast but sharp
13:30 it says WEN. Is that mandarin for NEW?
Glad somebody caught this. Pointing that out was sort of a joke.
it is actually their v2 of this lens their first one is called the 7artisans DJ-Optical 35mm which i have and also perform beautifly
Is it Gauss?
That’s a pretty impressive package and the images are very nice. I’m not a fan of swirly or “interesting” bokeh myself. The price can’t be beat.
The reason one would get into a Leica System is more for there lenses. That's what make the image a Leica Image.
I'm not crazy about Leica lenses, but I love their camera bodies.
