This footage is one of my favourites. Watching Sigung perform the first form, viewed from the side offers an aspect to practicing these movements not easily absorbed from a front view of this exercise.
Here lies the secret to the mystery of Chinese martial art. These simple, soft, and slow gestures seem totally irrelevant to the lightning-fast and hard skills of fighting. In reality, you have to practice for a long time to truly perceive and understand that lightning-fast hard skills are developed through years and years of repetitive practice of these simple, soft, and slow gestures. When you touch the old slim master's hands and arms, you will feel the power even without fighting. That's what they call Kung Fu. The real expert knows whether you have Kong Fu or not by the touch of your hand.
awesome siu num tao!! ours is jus like that. a litto detail here n there are diff, but the structure is the same. wing chun is siu num tao, siu num tao, is wing chun. tension n compression. base n structure. triangles n centers. small ideas, big results.
If we havent tried to ride a bicycle, we would think it would be easy to just hop on to it n ride like pro.. but u n i know skill doesn't work that way.. siu nim tao.. emphasize mind power and it is a repetitive movement.

One of my favourites. This side on view has made me totally reassess tan sau and its purpose in fighting.
