the result of this Video ,turned out a really nice looking ToolBox ! I’m a retired ProfessionalWoodworker with over 35 years in the commercial woodworking Industry my main focus was Installation in that Profession but I also contributed a fair amount to Estimating and Bidding for The Contracts ,plus worked inCustomerService I was in Upper Management for many years
Wow, you are an exceptionally skilled Craftsman! I am quite certain that your Toolbox will last and that you will enjoy what you built for a lifetime! Plans; Tour; and A Review, Absolutely Yes! Well done, Sir!
I always like seeing toolbox tour. I like refurbishing old dressers into tool chests, since it is much cheaper to start with a frame and some drawers. People will throw out dresser when one drawer is bad. Fix one drawer, add stronger support to bottom of drawers, and add 4 casters to bottom of dresser. Thanks for video!
I have three matching black 60" eight drawer dressers I got for $40 each from a scratch and dent furniture sale. They either had broken glass tops or bent chrome legs. No problem, I was chunking those anyway. I swapped out the tiny knobs for wide pulls like he used here and some nice casters, and now I've got a 15' long miter station for about $150. One of these days I might put some nice drawer slides on there, but that'll cost more than I have in the whole setup haha.
Better still are used steel file cabinets. There are a number of videos here where guys convert old steel file cabinets into tool boxes. The cabinets can usually be had for very little, sometimes for nothing. Some welding and metal fabrication skills are required.
This is my first video of yours I've watched, you made a helluva toolbox, I like your style, so many UA-camrs do a lot of cuts in their vids and act like they knew everything from start to finish and it just slapped together easy as you please. Your "mistakes" make you human to us, teach you something, teach US something, and add character to your piece. Those mistakes show how truly hard woodworking is in a time when so many think really any manual labor job is just mindless busy work that anyone can do, that's definitely not the case as anyone who's tried it knows. I'm a carpenter, have been most of my life, I can build a house from the ground up, let me tell you, the skills transfer but fine woodworking is a whole new ball game, wouldn't say it's really harder, in some ways it is and others it isn't over found, I've only been dabbling in it for maybe a year and the learning curve is steep but very satisfying imho, just my two cents, great build, thank you! (sorry for the book, I just needed to say that 😁)
Glad to see your video. IMNSHO, it was worth it, that is, your project was totally worth it. Will subscribe and hope to see your 1 year-later review of this build. Thanks.
It's only worth it if you think so. I think it's worth it, when u think of the experiences you've gained and memories you had thru the whole process. 👍👍👍👍👍
Looks nice. However a cheaper option would be traditional woodworking joints, Box joint draws construction lumber and luan side panels and back like a cheap dresser and wood drawer slides or even use cabnit type draw slides like you did or under mount and 1 sheet of 1/2" plywood for the draw bottoms, you could do the draws in 1/4-1/4-1/4 assembly and use under mount draw slides. Maybe recycled skid boards on the ends or a thin wood overlay. Ive got probly 1200 bf of walnut mostly, cherry, some oak and poplar as well as 1.5x4 pine from a shipping container i broke down that was 9 foot long. This could easily be made of scrap wood or even mdf covered in hardwoods. What you did looks good. Will last a long time and you had fun making it. What you can add is holders for tools like socket holding bars using dowl rod insted of buying the plastic stuff and wrench holders insted of buying the plastic one. I really like the use of the shower safty bar, a paper towl holder under it for shop towls other side you can make a fold down shelf or even a long tool holder like harbor frights tool cart you can hang long prybars or screwdrivers. But yours is too pretty for a garage its better as a craft working bench.
Great job, turned out awesome. I considered building something similar, but knew I honestly wouldn't put in the time to have it turn out as nice as this, and it would bug me. So, I ended up buying the 44" US General cabinet, and then another one after I filled that one up. One cool thing to keep in mind is you can always reconfigure your drawers as your needs change. If you need some shallow drawers or super deep drawers, they're only a weekend project away. Keep up the good work, enjoying your channel!
Look at the finish on that. Love the colour. The stain really adds a depth of colour. It's a decent amount of money but it was worth it. Great stuff nice video. Do you have a another video when you apply the stain. Thanks kp1
Not sure if you are updating but it is Jan 4, 2023 and the cost to build this with your material list with taxes is now $935.50. Over all it's still not that bad for bragging rights. However I am making my 24 inches deep.
Love to get the digital plans if they are available. I’ve been looking to build a box and I think this is it. I’m currently using my dads metal box which is over 70yrs old. I’ll never get rid of it but I’d like to make a nice box myself
A 2023 price update video would be useful, as I am considering a build (build up my skill set) versus a buy. For the (2) expensive build items, at a local Menards: [1] 3/4 x 4 x 8 B2 Red Oak Wood Veneer Core Plywood is $88.75 each (before any sales or 11% rebate) x 3 is ~ $267 [2] 1/2 x 4 x 8 B2 Red Oak Wood Veneer Core Plywood is $86.75 each (before any sales or 11% rebate) x 3 is ~ $261 Looking at a local harbor freight, U.S. GENERAL 42 in. x 22 in. Roll Cab is $599.99 regular price. I recently received a 25% off single item coupon, which would bring down one item to ~ $450.

If these plans were detailed and in PDF format, I would buy them right now. Just bought a home built in 1910 so this would fit in perfectly.
I like it definitely looks better than harbor freight tool box. And wood helps with rusting in high humidity areas.
Yes, digital plan would be great. Great job on you project.

Nice idea with the steel bar.
Great job! I would be interested in a review video as well as a tour video!
Thanks, Clay!
Fun video to watch. tHanks for posting it.
I made a tool box when I was a kid and lately I've decided to be a kid again.

Hello from Gillette, WY
Looks nice.

Thanks!
@@ourblackhillshome7556 btw, that would become a family heirloom in my opinion.
@@saxon840 That would be petty cool! Hopefully it lasts until the next generation. Lol
I would buy a set of plans too, damn nice work
Looks great great job
Nice tool cabinet. Yes, would be interested in available plans and review.
Thanks for sharing.
Great job! Planning on a similar chest myself for a while now. Yes! On the plans!
Thanks for the video and cost breakdown. Looks great!
Nice work
Good job. Nice looking box.

Just what I was going to say!

That's a seriously strong tool box. In the event of a nuclear strike you'd probably be ok if you sheltered behind it! 😄
Great build, lovely finish 👍
Thanksss
if you still have the sketchup plans, ill convert them for you and you can upload if you want
Any updates on a possible cut list / digital file?
What software did you use to draw those drawings.
So... roughly double that price up here in Canada
I want something similar but different drawer arrangement, also in this Biden era cost is insanely astronomical.
Yae
Sh!t. It looked great. But way too expensive just labor cost alone.
ah - you never made the plans. That sucks
