Another great video Anthony - I can (and do) watch them over and over again . . so informative and always something new to pick-up with every view! I''ll be back on eBay and Discogs AGAIN! . . poor but happy. Always looking forward to the next video. Thank you.
Thank you so much for the kind words, Steven. Let us know what you pick up. 👍👍🙏
Will do! And hopefully join you one Wednesday evening … it’s just v very late for us ‘workers’ in the UK. Quick question - do you think these DG titles are any better in German or UK pressings??? All the best and looking forward to tomorrow evenings livestream.
that is helpful. Thanks. The DG chamber music works are sometimes quite surprising sonically especially when one sets their bar pretty low on sonics. The first press (tulip) of the Amadeus quartet box sets doing the Beethoven string quartets are also quite good sonically.
Great insights, I’ll keep my eyes peeled.
Inspired me to pick up a few cheapies
Let us know what you picked and how you like them. Cheers, a
@@AudiophiliaChannel Drolc quartet recording of Tchaikovsky and Borodin string quartets from 1969 has been a nice surprise
Many thanks Anthony, I have most of these and couldn’t agree more, Melos recordings are a must if found.
Listening to the BSO Chamber Players Debussy album as I type. Remarkable musicianship & sound! Old Gunter nailed this one :)
@@AudiophiliaChannel Thanks Anthony for the tip on the BSO , will keep a look out cheers, interesting Gunter with no HvK is different ?!
DG was the best classical records on vinyl for me!
My first DG LP was the Schumann Rhenish with Giulini/LA Phil. that I purchased back in the 80s. The sound quality was absolutely horrible. I couldn't understand why it was so bad since other labels, even the budget "London Treasury" series had excellent sonics.
DG tulips are prior to 1972.
I have an early pressing of that Septet disc, and from memory I was not that impressed by the sound. Maybe I should listen to it again.
What is the tulip please?
A tulip is a DG pressing with signature small tulips around the edge of the centre label. These LPs were recorded with tube equipment but were discontinued by DG in 1969, hence their desirability.
@@AudiophiliaChannel I see...I think my father's collection of LPs should have a lot of these.
I'm all for audiophilia, but would you please stop mf apologizing for DG? They have one of the greatest catalogs in recorded classical music history. And ultimately aesthetic considerations trump technical ones, or there is no art. Which oh, there isn't anymore, wow.
“MF”? I will not stop apologizing for the dreadful technical decisions they made. Great catalogs, covers, artists? You must have missed me saying that in every video lol
“Aesthetic considerations trump technical”.
No, no they don’t. You’re wrong. Decca, EMI, RCA, Mercury all managed to do both. Also, DG itself is sponsoring remastering many of their dreadful recordings. Hey, you like them, cool. But no matter your rhetoric, you’re still wrong.
Many thanks Anthony, I have most of these and couldn’t agree more, Melos recordings are a must if found.
@@AudiophiliaChannel you’re absolutely correct with this Anthony, please continue to tell the facts!
