Who lets us see their insides? This is pure exposed venerable naked self! and it's most everything she does. Rarely do we see a polished version and yet it's a masterpiece that can bring you to tears? and we're only seeing her warming up for what's to come and somehow we all know it's true! It's as if we have a vested interest and are all connected?
There is no falseness in Angelina. She is openly transparent in everything she does. In my opinion, there is no other singer who is as comfortable within themselves as a human being that they permit very personal videos to be posted for public view. She has always shown a level of maturity far in advance of her age, and her recognition that humans are not perfect beings but have flaws is something even many adults fail to accept. You will see videos of Angelina "hamming it up" during rehearsals; being the "Boss" while sweetly requesting that the musicians play as she wishes and showing her displeasure if they fail to do so; showing her disappointment if she is not satisfied with her performance. There are images of her looking angry, petulant, thoughtful, sweet and adorable. I doubt there is another performer who has been so well documented throughout her life and I feel honoured that Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, has been so forward looking to film these occasions and that Angelina has permitted them to be uploaded.
Now you know why the backing musicians cal her “the boss”.
She could be a diplomat one day..a child being able to instruct adults and doing so with a series of questions. “Is this too low”? This wasn’t a question but an instruction..smart kid!
I think we need to give a nod to the type of country Norway is..I wonder if Angelina would have happened in England? I doubt it.
Republic Records needs to make a sign to go on the studio door when she is recording that says "Quiet, genius at work!" I love the way her "Shield" of protectors is always there, her Mom, Sara, watching everything that's going on, while Grandma Mery is there recording it all. Now that she has turned into a beautiful young woman, they may need reinforcements to help watch over her. Just sayin'.
I started tearing up about halfway through. At first I didn't know why but now I understand. I had the privilege to watch a baby genius do her thing and realized things like this don't happen everyday. Thank goodness we have access to this video. Maybe grandma was recording it. And, of course, you tube has given us the opportunity to see it. This is when you nod your head sideways, not up and down.
Watching a 9 year old child directing a Jam session with these professional musicians just blows my mind, literally. Love this short but sweet look into the mind of a child music genius and thanks to Grandma Mery, once again for providing these incredible snippets of a child prodigy. There is no "mary had a little lamb" stuff going on here, but a child professional doing some serious soul/jazz jamming with adult musicians. Thanks HC for this one, a favorite of mine for sure.
It must have been awesome for her development to have the oportunity to work with profesionelle musicians at such a young age, and they really respect and love her.. 😊🤗

This is the same band she worked with on I Put A Spell On You - she is still 9 years old here working the song out for the first time.
Just today I was thinking about the subtle differences between blues, gospel, jazz, rhythm and blues, soul, you name it ... but who cares? She's got it all!

"Painting a portrait in oil" is an extended metaphor used as the heart of the song. He uses "all the colors of blue" on his stand. Blue= sad, the blues, pain, sorrow, burdens, etc. At the end of the song he turns the image around with, "I am the man." So, it is a self-portrait. Meditate on that for deeper meaning. That's what I love about the best songs, especially the old ones: They contain poetry. Angelina herself writes....as does her artist grandmother, the one who played all the old jazz/blues vinyls for her from infancy on. I just listened several times to the Screaming Jay Hawkins original of this song. I have always felt the pain of others, and it is so marvelous to witness this capacity in Angelina, and how she conveys that heart/spirit in the songs.... yes, an old soul.

Great reaction- here we see the creative process on the fly. She knows how to experiment, and communicate with the musicians. I must say though, she chose the best song to produce in the studio - 'I put a spell on you' - a much better song - and as they say, the rest is history...
The amount of soul in Angelina's voice is remarkable. Try playing it for anyone who doesn't know Angelina and ask them how old they think the vocalist is. No one would ever come close.

Many hotels usually have entertainment acts at their dining rooms or lounges and provide sound proof rooms for the participating acts to practice in. On off days these rooms are rented for anyone who want to use them. This was the setting that Angelina was in jamming with her band and not in a studio. Her grandmother was the one who recorded this video and as you've seen in the video, her mother (her shield) as usual was there too.
I hope that someday Angelina would release an official recording of this song.

You know what amazes me about her is that she doesn’t even hesitate to take on the hardest, most complicated song. Another one she tackled was the French song, La Boheme. Now she covering and make her own Michael Jackson and The Beatles! Also, of course, she changed the words for this one to make it her own. Were any of these rehearsals actually studio recorded?

I am totally mesmerized every time I see this. This song is incredibly difficult and here she is finding her way through it. She was right when she said it was to low because she knew that some of the lower notes would be beyond her range. Then at the end she adds her ending to the song. Master musician at 10 years old, maybe even younger.
I think she was 9. This is the same band as played with I Put A Spell On You, also by Mr S. J. Hawkins.
You can see the Musicians are enjoying the session. Can you imagine working with her? It has to be amazing.

The same band, yes, but this is from a soundproof practice room, whereas the IPASOY is from a professional recording studio. Rented separately. The guys obviously respect her enormously! They also look pretty gobsmacked now and then. She is amazing. ❤️👣🎶
She's got a bit of Janis Joplin in her , for sure. Her jazz influencers were Billie Holiday and
Amy Winehouse. Mix in that 'Joplin Soul' and there will be no stopping her from taking us
up, past the stratosphere to a place above heaven.
