Misa Hylton, thus is a great name to learn. I’ve always seen her in pictures with celebrities so it’s good to learn about the contributions she has made. Also, her and Kim make an amazing team. Great Duo! Also I would’ve mistaken you two for sisters, the chemistry is absolutely undeniable. Spoiler alert! Such a privilege to hear about hip hop fashion from the women’s perspective because women’s fashion definitely helped redefine the rap genre for it to cross over into pop.
Lil’ Kim , diminutive pint size rapper with scathing rhymes and scantily clad clothes to match her larger than life persona. The question what is life, for a lot of us growing up in the hood, poverty, guns, drugs, hoes, jail, gangstas that was life. Finding a successful path to navigate and express yourself in the 90’s was a road lightly tread. The evolution of music hip hop becoming mainstream and it’s burgeoning influence allowed Kim to step through an open window of opportunity and open the door for the marriage of our culture and mainstream pop culture. Marketing to women in fashion is a no brainer, but when a young black girl from the projects pairs Chanel sunglasses and suspenders she instantly transcended through time, as she is a reflection and reminder that you can be from around the way and still get fly. Her celebration on tracks with the likes of labels is no small feat. Before the idea of plastic surgery, Breast enhancements, colored contacts, dyed lace front wigs, pasties, one long leg one short, obnoxious designer logos, designer customs, rap as the radio for runway Lil Kim endured an enormous feat of losing parts of herself while captivating the world. The reign of Kim would begin in Full length fur, flawless diamonds draping her neck in a dior cocktail dress with patent leather Gucci sling backs, Chanel oversize sunglasses sitting above her finger waved hair. When asked about her fashion in 96, she then said she was inspired by the people, her mom, the streets, people on the block. Today 2019 after Diana Ross cementing the pastie, awarding her friend and influencing the great Alexander McQueen, being the Muse for collections at Galliano/ Dior, Marc Jacob for Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs, becoming a staple face and muse of Versace. Her free style has even had her largely paid in homage by Beyonce in 2018. In 2019 it is apparent that she was influenced by what she saw and what she saw influenced the world. There would be no embrace of sexuality, crass, inclusivity in hip hop had Lil Kim not risked being being crowned for everything wrong and never awarded for everything done right. Although, she has not been given her proper just due, it poses the question with all the hooplah circulating about her plastic surgery, alleged skin bleaching and personal insecurities did anyone ever allow her the opportunity to heal. To embrace with love and support, when she was breaking barriers and laying the pavement did we embrace her beauty as a person to be so fearless and courageous. Her ability to allow women to emote visually and audibly is undeniable, women now glorify everything they tore her down for then, was this woman a product of being so far ahead of her time as a visionary people couldn’t understand her, maybe the visionary thought there was purpose for the vision and not the visionary. Shout out to Kim it’s important that we have understanding, through abuse, child trauma, selling drugs, the day to day ills of the world in the hood, being a child millionaire no financial guidance, seeking love from ya father, going to jail, betrayal, having a miscarriage all to carrying this fashion shit on ya back. As a fan of her music, I didn't really realize how impactful she was in fashion until I saw the Playtime is Over series. Clearly, someone else was paying very close attention to her the ENTIRE time. So many looks and she was so heavily criticized the whole time. She's our Madonna.
I love Misa Hylton and everything she is doing for MCM and Love LilKim and the album 9 has been on Repeat I love Kim’s versatility in music and how she continues to evolve
I bet She is such a sweet person in real life ... all you ever hear are nice/good/positive/ things about her ... everyone says she is a good person and that has definitely helper her image ... ❤️
She’s still setting trends to this day. Without Kim there would be none of what you see and enjoy today. Not even your girl Nick Miraj would exist without Kim’s INFLUENCE 👑🐝
Wow! As a Miliinial Black woman who didn't know much about the icon Misa, I have gained new insight and perspectives on her by watching this interview in 2024! I'm happy she and Kim could receive their flowers NOW!! and they have both empowered me to keep believing in myself, to think outside the box, to be a trendsetter, and to do things everyone isn't doing. I love their non-romantic TWIN FLAME bond and relationship. You can tell they were divinely aligned to be in each other's lives and look like sisters. Their relationship is organic and natural and you can tell they genuinely care for each other and are both secure in how they are and connections like that are RARE to find these days. Thank you Lil Kim and Misa for the path you have craved for young Black women and your contributions to women in Hip Hop, I honor you both. Also, the host/interviewer did a great job by doing her research and also making sure Misa was also celebrated and centered, love to see it!
Thank you Complex for this insightful interview with Lil Kim and Misa Hylton! I always wanted to know more about Kim's fashion and her stylist. Thank you!

Not just one but all her poses, fashion and hairstyle. Probably also quoted her but i don't listen to nicki so correct me if im wrong. It's one thing to be inspired by someone but she was a copycat 😒
Jay Jay I must admit yeah Nicki might have stolen some of Kim’s swag when she started. But musically Nicki Minaj is a better rapper. Nicki will go toe to toe with rappers like Kanye Jay Wayne Drake Big Sean Eminem etc. She even made some of them change their verse because her verse was so epic that they didnt want Nicki to outshine them. Most of the features she does, people only talk about Nicki’s verse. I cant lie. I like Kim but she fell off after 2002. Her last album was a total flop, didnt like it at all! I was so dissapointed she even put that out because it didnt even sound like her. I’m like omg Kim seriously with all that crazy autotune and talking about your pussy?
Kitty Kat nicki didn’t copy shit. Just some wigs that supposedly were the same. Stfu. Kim stole the style from madonna and Cher so she ain’t that original. Kim didn’t invent wigs and using a wig with the same color doesn’t mean your copying. Their rap style is completely different and nicki surpassed her long ago.
I'm so convinced was building her look based on Misa Hilton. Lil' Kim is not trying to look like an Asian woman but a carbon copy of Misa. _Misa is the real Lil' Kim._
Thank you for this video. People need to know her. She doesn't get the credit she deserves, not just in fashion but also in music. She's an icon too 💪🏾

If she Never Rapped, wat she did for Fashion and the Hood,Fashion Designers all over the World wanted her at their Shows, they wanted to make her Custom Pieces,if Kim wasn't wearing it or saying your name, you weren't Fashion,Fashion and Rap is Lil Kim,Misa Hilton-Brim is the ICON STYLIST 🙌💯🤙
She deserves the fashion icon award 🏆💁♀️👑... !!...
Lil Kim is a legend period end of dissuasion! 👑🙌🏾
Also, the host/interviewer did a great job by doing her research and also making sure Misa was also celebrated and centered, love to see it!
iconic fashionista 😍
Great interview I enjoyed it so much.
Thank you Complex for this insightful interview with Lil Kim and Misa Hylton! I always wanted to know more about Kim's fashion and her stylist. Thank you!
Lil kim is getting her flowers 💐... 👏 👏 👏... she is so dope, in a way most do t even understand #babyphat
She forgot to ask about the Donatella photo shoot but otherwise great interview didn’t miss anything.
💯💯💯
Exactly!!! That shoot was definitely major
They look alike
I loved what Kim wore when she performed with Mary J at the BET Awards, that was beautiful. Also, the interviewer is so professional and intelligent. I loved her questions and the way she carried out this interview. Thank you 😊
FINALLY!!!! The QUEEN is getting her ROSES!🌹
A true New Yorker a true hip hop legend.
Great 👍 interview
Lil Kim rolling her high heels is EVERYTHANG !!!
Damn good interview and MOTIVATIONAL at the end...even tho i want to give up and say its just not going to happen ..the fact that i know music is what im good at steps in and says you've come to far to give up...and misa and kim confirmed that...THANK YOU LADIES😍😍😍😍😍 AND SHOUT TO COMPLEX FOR BRINGING THIS DOPE INTERVIEW
Nikki copied that first pose of Lil Kim, but Nikki's too proud to give Kim her props!!
Galliano period
Yin Yang periana 😂
Lil Kim is a perfectionist she always stay on her toes.
I really enjoyed this she is def a fashion icon, misa is a gem
All this love in the comments... where were y’all when she drops her album???
Crickets...
🦗
👑 *My era* 💖
Love how the 2 of them just bounce off each other..,🙌🏻 ❤️❣️💯
That's the mother of Diddys son, Justin.
Kim is a WHOLE ENTIRE LEGEND! The real 🐐 She set the bar for all these female rappers right now! She deserves respect from everyone! PERIOD
LIL' KIM THE QUEEN BEE SO U BEST TAKE HEED...SHALL I PROCEED?....🙌
I’ma throw SHADE if I can’t get paid!
Blow you up to your girl like the army grenade..
Yes indeed!😍❤❤❤👋
You can slide on my ice like the escapade
wow 💕 this whole interview is just pure gold
I'm so convinced was building her look based on Misa Hilton. Lil' Kim is not trying to look like an Asian woman but a carbon copy of Misa. _Misa is the real Lil' Kim._
Same thoughts🙄
They look alike now
I grew up on kim I didn’t know I was being inspired but now I understand what the feeling was! I appreciate this woman so much!!
Dope dope dope I could’ve literally watched hours of this interview 👑🐝👙
Lil Kim gets so much love and "FLOWERS" why are yall making it seem like since she is not selling records that she is not iconic?
You got to be more pacific
Quit believing the internet rumors dumass she doing amazing in the real world
Who you calling a dumbass??? Boo Boo!

Her "flowers" need to be public like the bashing and lies were all these years.
Thank you for this video. People need to know her. She doesn't get the credit she deserves, not just in fashion but also in music. She's an icon too 💪🏾
Great and insightful interview! I feel inspired! Kim’s interviews are underrated, she’s a great story teller
I’ve always loved both of these ladies. I’m a 90’s baby and Misa would be in the early Bad Boy videos. This is history. Misa is apart of the culture. Salute to both Queens 💕
This was a awesome interview Kim will forever be the Queen of rap she is vicious on that mic she looks amazing she stay fly Misa still beautiful my girls right here
I remember this Kim. I feel like maybe she is at peace. That makes me happy. Im glad she has loved ones near. Kim inspired me at that time to stay on my grind and not settle.
This was just an amazing interview I have enjoyed the chemistry displayed throughout the interview. She just real with it
My inspiration in highscool I was one fly chick. These too together reminds me of my sister and me.
Love me some KIMBERLY Jones!! PERIODT
I'm just realizing how much nicki acts like Lil kim. LIL KIM was copied so bad, and nobody even knows it
I just love Kim so much. An absolute legend in so many ways. The only Queen.
