Great info and well presented. Thank you!
The Sodium Hydroxide that you created could be used to create soap. But that's another show! Though you would have wanted to use the Graphite to create it, so you would have had the precipitate to deal with.
    Have a better day!

It really depends on what the something is. Electrolytic cleaning works for salt deposits because salt ionizes very easily. I don't think it would necessarily work on something sticky like gum to instance.

the water changed color because the chloride reacted with the metal and did not become a gas. that is why you only had bubbles on one spoon.

I want to have a 22 inch line of platinum to produce hydrogen bubbles(cathode)-- I think the gauge of my wire is probably a bit smaller than 20 gauge. I don't have a lot of platinum, so I want the bulk of the wire to act as the cathode. What is the minimum length of platinum wire that I need to act as the anode in order to have my 22 in length of cathode produce hydrogen bubbles evenly?

A way you can test to see if it was from the wires would be to attach the wires to graphite leads and then do the experiment. Graphite should not react with the water. If this removed the green colour then you know it was from the corrosion of the wires. If the green colour is till there, I would suggest to change the container to a glass one and try again. We noticed that our solution changed to a green colour over time, after we let it sit and the colour accumulated into a precipitate.

Are there any uses around the house, for the water left over after electrolysis rust removal? Would it beneficial to the soil if I we’re to water with it for example. I have a bit of a hobby renovating BBQs with cast iron grates, and more often than not friends want me to help with their neglected BBQs; and as part of the process I use electrolysis to get rid of the rust. I utilize plain tap water with soda ash Na2CO3 which I make at home from NaHCO3. I strictly keep in mind not to use this rust removal method for anything that is made of stainless steel, mainly cuz of the chromium in it. Anyway, I see it as such a waste to neutralize this water and just dump it down the drain, that more often than not I’ve wondered if I could use it to water the plants, shrubs, lawn, and flowers around the house? I haven’t done it, mainly because I don’t want to experiment and kill sections of the lawn or plant to find out what someone else might know already. Yes, my water has the typical leftover crud in it, when done with the rust removal by electrolysis. What do you science guys think? Perhaps there’s even a use for the left over liquor without neutralizing it..... not really sure.

For example a Salt Water pool uses Electrolysis, if the salt is continuously transformed into chlorine and hydrogen, why is it that you don't need to add salt to the pool other than at the beginning of the season? Would be able to explain? Thanks

Question: I'm now conducting an experiment that studies exactaly what concentration of NaCl will cause the production of chlorine gas. I used graphene electrode in order to avoid unknown products. However, the cathode starts producing greenish precipitate after the NaCl concentration exceeds 3M. I'm wondering if that's related to chlorine gas, but I get pretty confused, becuase 1. chlorine gas should be produced in the form of GAS not precipitate 2. Chlorine gas should be produced at the anode.

    Hello .
Is it possible to have hydrogen (electrolysis) from salt/sea water
    (Only generally speaking)
    under following conditions :
Input voltage 5 Volts DC Voltage.
Total resistance between electrodes in the sea salt water 0.1 Ohm
Important : There is resistor connected in series with resistance R = 4 Ohm.
So total resistance of the entire circuit is 4.1 Ohm.
    The question is only general.
Really thank you a lot .

We have a few questions. Does your solution still contain NaCl? How did you send the charge to the solution? (Metal wire) Finally was the power board direct or alternating current? This will tell us if any compounds were isolated on ether side during the reaction. The white precipitate could be hard water residue if you cooked off a lot of the water. If you used a metal wire the discoloration could be from the metal oxidizing during the reaction. With more info we can help further.

    • @DennisMathias
      @DennisMathias 3 роки тому

Probably a little NaCl left. But not much as black as it was. No, they sent the charge from the 9v battery directly to the spoons! What are you talking about..power board. The battery is DC. This is just from my observation.

If I buy an H2oe3 cleaner from the adverts should I wear PPE clothing? They don't mention it on the adverts. Or is that why you add vinegar?

Damien Martin That sounds like a great idea. I will look into if we will do an experiment or if we do a lecture about electroplating. I cannot promise when it will come out but we will try and do it sooner than later.
