This is the best series currently on TV, in my humble opinion.

Lestat's stripping away Louis' humanity is where he sees Louis' potential for vampirism, A man who fights against a humanity that rejects him and also wants power, someone perfect to accept the gift and to be a companion, but the journey will be bloody, no pun intended! lol
That's why the show caught my attention, the complexity of the relationship. it's immoral but seductive it's violent but romantic, I want to savor every toxic trait between these two predators. lol

10:55 it was a question that book readers also had... Did Lestat have any part to play in Paul's death? But the author of the book and the showrunner in the show have both said that lestat did NOT influence Paul in that way. It's a good question to ask! but yeah, thankfully, it has been answered by the person who wrote the book and also by the person who has worked on writing the show.
When Lestat mentions that Paul was "longing for that flagstone" Lestat just meant that he was already suicidal and could hear it in his mind when he read his thoughts. He did not push Paul to do anything about those thoughts, though.
Just clearing that up so that you guys don't further theorize about it. The show doesn't necessarily directly address it... They kind of do... but some people just assume that Lestat lies in his answering...he doesnt though. He tells the truth in that moment.

Louis in present day Dubai expresses how he doesn't now how lestats words convince him but when you think about it here we have lestat making Louis all this offers, "you're better than this, why do you humiliate yourself this way" and expresses how much he loves him, in a moment of vulnerability when Louis feels the most alone lestat offers him companionship for eternity as well as acceptance for who he truly is

The things Lestat said to Louis is far more romantic than anything in Twilight🤭 Wait until you watch his Saint Louis speech in epi 2🤧

The scene of Paul mentioning his sister using a broom during the wedding ties into the other Anne Rice book "The Mayfair Witches" with is connected to the Anne Rice Vampire books. Grace becomes upset with Paul when she says, "He's calling me a witch, Mamam." The Mayfair witches are also in New Orleans during that time. The Talamasca is also in the Vampire Chronicles and Mayfair Witches. I have read both, and the characters do cross paths.
Also, Louis is pronounced in French as 'loo-wee' the 's' is silent.

A sidenote, Lestat hasn't killed Paul or messed with him, Paul more like was feeling Lestat up and was sensing something is off with him and with that it was more metaphor with "the Devil has been inside my head", also why he jumped. He was sensing Louis was going away and vibing Lestat and felt like a failure to God to let his brother slip to such a path.

The scream that I just scrumpt! Love this show! I always notice new things when I rewatch. Such a beautiful, toxic, complex, gothic romance. Also, they confessed their love and kissed on the altar. 🥲 They got married. The race change adds so much more complexity to Louis's arc and their relationship dynamics. Lestat is played by Sam Reid! He's amazing!

Love your analysis! Really insightful ❤. I just want to point out that the source material of the show Anne Rice “The Vampires Chronicles “ books was written decades ago and inspired a new generation of vampires, Buffy, twilight, the originals, etc. But because those IP are more recent and frankly because people don’t always give there flowers to Anne Rice as an influence it not a really well known .

Interesting that you mention Klaus (he was also my fave) cus the actor mentions in an interview that he got a lot of inspiration from the character of Lestat when he was preparing to play Klaus. It’s been a while since I’ve watch TVD but I think there’s elements/mannerisms there looking back now that are similar haha

something about vampires has always just been so fascinating to me👀i like when they're sexy like in 'tvd', 'true blood', and 'btvs'. i like when they're creepy like in '30 days of night'. i like when they're existential like in 'let the right one in' and 'ganja & hess'. i like when they're campy like in 'renfield', 'what we do in the shadows', and 'abigail'.
but 'iwtv' gives them a little bit of all three and i love it sooo much! the gallow's humor. the toxic romance. the truly horrific things they do when they let the monster out. the dramatic spectacle of evil in the form of an attractive human being with unmanaged mental health issues. it's literally my favorite show out right now❤‍🔥

One of the biggest themes of this show, that has not yet become obvious in Ep1, is the theme of memory being flawed, differences in perceptions and unreliable narrator (not a liar, but unreliable). The show takes a turn in S2 that you maybe don’t expect in the first 6.5 episodes of S1. This theme will be just as important in S3.
The reason behind this choice is that the author made a giant shift between book 1 and 2 (and the subsequent books). The showrunner took it as an opportunity to explore the theme of unreliable narrator stitching together the two books in order to make the shift not so jarring and by doing this he added even more layers to the narrative. The writing in this show is truly amazing. I have never seen a show improving on the source material…

Paul associates broom with witchcraft because in the same conversation he brings up the Mayfair family who are rumoured to be witches. In fact Grace says: “he called me a witch, mama”.
That being said, he doesn’t like Grace’s husband because he’s a Protestant and Paul is Catholic. Paul probably thinks he’s a heretic. Catholics especially don’t like how Protestants treat Mary because for them she’s a much more important figure and is treated as a saint.
But even though Catholics can have issues with Protestants, in that period of time they will probably say nothing to people of other confessions. Paul, however, has this hiper-religiosity exasturbated by his mental illness. He can’t help but be too focused on his religion, it’s a part of his obsession.

interview with the vampire is considered the second most influential vampire story after dracula. it has inspired and frankly, copied by every vampire show since its inception whether its twilight or vampire diaries - they even cheekily make references to louis or lestat in those shows. when you mentioned the originals i had to chuckle because julie plec was notorious for cribbing anne rice's flow - including klaus whom the actor admitted to modeling his character after lestat. louis and lestat and their dynamic were the prototypes of all the modern vampires: stefan vs damon, angel vs spike, bill vs eric but these other writers removed the queerness of the og and planted a bland female character in between them.

vampires, werewolves & zombies have a bit in common.
-feed off others (some for survival, some not, a gradient)
-option to snack, kill or change (werewolf & zombie not so much for the snack)
    metaphorically...
vampires: feed off of the soul of their prey
werewolves: feed off of the body of their prey
zombies: feed off of the spirit of their prey
a good metaphor can apply to many things, for example:
    soul: religion
    body: corporation
    spirit: government
the three creatures could also represent 3 principle paths of deviation (extremes) for human beings.

while I dont think lestat was directly involved in Pauls death I do think that when they were at that dinner he got in his head and showed him something that obviously made him upset, now while he clearly was a very damaged person to begin with I wouldn't not say that said moment with lestat played into him jumping off that roof, but I do think lestat didn't do it expecting said outcome

Paul killing himself had nothing to do with Lestat. Paul couldn’t live with the changes in his family. He cried to Louis about Grace getting married. He also didn’t want to be a burden. He wanted Louis to get married and to move on with his life too but knew he wouldn’t survive without him so he ended it. Said his goodbyes; had his last meal.

estos son como deberian ser todas las historias de vampiros seductores pero aterradores x su naturaleza asesina no como los vampiros dieteticos de crepusculo que eran solo para publico adolecente
