I've had my own memorable encounter with an XL size milky. Pound for pound, they are one of the strongest estuary fish in the sea.. and that rocky ledge battle is one of the most epic I've seen in a long time. Team work gets the reward. Well done 🏆
Absolutely brilliant guys I didn’t know mullet grew that big they were superb and that Milkfish was a beautiful fish congratulations peachy 👌 and well done Steve for making sure he landed it . I’ve always wanted to visit Darwin it’s the one place in the world I’d truly love to go ! Never say never great video 👍
Ahhh the memories! When I was stationed in Darwin through the 90s at the Naval Base, we loved tying up bread flies and heading down for a session to intercept the milkies and mullet as they headed into Doctors off the end breakwater ( only a couple hundred metees from your vid!) Top class footage amd narration as always Starlo, champion 😊
Mate what an epic episode! I cannot thank you enough for everything in that adventure, talk about going above and beyond the call of duty! Brilliant edit too mate, absolutely loved it, really great to relive that adventure! :)😁
Hi Steve. That was an epic adventure. Thanks for sharing it with us. I don't think my wife would like me jumping off the rocks for a swim. Such commitment. Kind regards MP
Hey Steve, great episode. milkfish seem just as, if not more fun than bonefish! If you ever want to chase snapper in one of the toughest, yet most picturesque environments, lets go in the Tamar River, north Tas. Try for some XXL whiting too👍
Never chased them when I lived in Darwin, but I had a lot of fun at Doctors Gully! You get to see some giants at feeding time - some must be 10kg I reckon, and the tales look 2 feet from tip to tip.
Fantastic video Starlo. Absolutely loved it. I often get those big diamond scaled mullet in my cast net good eating. I got a nice blue salmon and a queen fish yesterday morning off the beach. I made some queenie sashimi and numas . Blue salmon was lovely too. Hopefully you get back up here soon 😊🐠🎣
Fresh blue salmon is very tasty. Doesn't freeze well though. You need to have a crack at those milkies and mullket on bread baits in a berley trail. Too much fun!
Brilliant video mate. Really enjoyed it. As far as retrieves with the bread flies, are you just keeping tight to the fly or do you keep it slowly moving ? Cheers.
Thanks! Mostly just dead drifts so the fly looks like another chunk of bread but surprisingly, sometimes these fish respond to a short twitch-and-leave... it must attract their attention, I guess?
Good stuff. Most people would be able to do this typeoffishing. Substitute the fly for bread bait and a threadline reel and ya right to go. Croc bait Steve ,and no pliers. What's going on! 😅
Seem to remember you wrestling a coral trout out of a coral bommy at the Abrolhos Islands where the local tiger shark swims, in similar fashion half a lifetime ago Steve. You must be half Golden retriever, can’t keep you outta the water. 😜😂😂😉
Very true! When I lived a Bourke a lifetime ago, I was known as "Starling in the Darling" as a result of my propensity for ending up IN the river of that name rather than staying on the bank!
Amazing adventure. Have been spiked by a spotted scat whilst trying to remove from a castnet in qld. It was the size of a 20 cent piece. My whole right arm from my finger where he got me, to my shoulder was throbbing for 6 hours. Beware!
Bet Jo had a few words to say to you Steve, when she saw the footage of you taking a swim to free an actively kicking fish in prime big salty territory!

Thanks mate! No way I could have done it without Starlo! :)
Amazing! The definition of a team effort. Great video - thanks Steve.
Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, definitely a team effort!
That double hook up is a classic 😂
Bonefish, “I have a huge tail.”
Milkfish,”Hold my beer!”
Sweet video as always Steve🙏😊

Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it and it brought back some memories. 👍
Wow great action on the bread burley trail! Amazed the local seagulls didnt home in on the floating bread
They do in some places, that's for sure.
Awesome video gents, what a amazing looking fish they both are, stay safe and tight lines 🎣🐟
Thanks! You too!

@@PeachyFlyFishing thanks mate. It was an awesome yarn to re-tell. A lot of fish ended up on the cutting room floor too. We caught too many! 🤣

Thanks for that! Yes, we love our Tassie fishing and those whiting are next level. Haven’t tried the Tamar yet, though. 👍
what a episode!!!!!!
Glad you liked it!
Double hooked on same fish!😂🤣 Team work 😉
I know! What are the chances?
Classic, i used to do that with a seven weight back in the late nineties. Great fun eh.
Very cool!

Yep, I’ve caught plenty on bread baits, with and without a float. Not sure what you use the pliers for though?
Oh, I realized you were probably referring to Peachy and that scat! Yes, pliers would’ve been handy on that. 👍

Spot on (pardon the pun!),
I always have a surgical clamp clipped to my top Pocket for taking out flys. Far better than struggling with the fingers.
Good idea.
Epic adventure Starlo!!! What weight gear and size leader were you using?
Peachy was on an #8 weight and I used a #9. We were running 16 and 20 pound leaders.
Body on the line for that beauty 👌
🤣👍

What we do to land that trophy fish. Great stuff mate. 😅
Absolutely! 👍
